- In this video, Logee's horticulturist and third generation owner, Byron Martin, discusses the stunning Abutilon 'Red Tiger' (Abutilon hybrid). Dazzling yellow flowers with scarlet-red veining throughout gives Abutilon ‘Red Tiger’ the appearance of colorful Japanese lanterns hanging from the deeply lobed foliage. Also known as the "flowering maple," this Abutilon is ideal as a container plant for the summer garden as it is very heat tolerant. The abundant, eye-catching blooms of this beautiful specimen will attract lots of attention, especially from hummingbirds and butterflies. With optimal care, abutilon plants can grow quickly and flower profusely.

Love abutilon, have mine for years. Always blooming and it really grows fast after a trim..I live in Jamaica and my area is very hot...I maintain it by keeping it potted so as to make it possible to relocate according to the season.. it's very hot now so I put it at a cooler section of the garden, only morning sun and it's doing fine...
These are growing in ground at homes in the Homestead/Miami Florida area and are 6’ tall. I just bought one from the farmers market and going to plant it in the ground in the Lower Florida Keys. It is currently doing wonderful in my pot.
Love the shape and colors of the flower! Didn’t realize that Abutilons grew that tall or are so cold hardy.
Hello from Australia. Love your comments on such beautiful plants. My dear Aunty mollie who lived in a wheel chair due to polio, had one of the orange flowered abutilon, growing outside her sewing room which flowered and flowered...it was a magnet for some of our honeyeaters, it was a constant source of interest for her.
Beautiful blooms! So different and pretty.
Such an interesting flower!!!
Wow, what a beautiful flower! Adding this to my "someday" list for when I have a yard/garden.
Does brilliantly on our patio 👌
Loved it
Always blooming flower ❤
I love this plant, the first time I’ve ever seen it was at the beltmore in Asheville, nc. Local nursery here where I live never had it and I finally found and ordered this from your online store sometime last year. It is small still but the flowers had started to bloom!
Hi I just came across your videos ,thank you so much for sharing all this plant info.It helped me a lot I’m starting a begonia collection etc .love your videos I had to subscribe 😊
I know this is an old video but actually just purchased these and I'm in South Florida after hearing what you're saying I really hope they do well
Thank you for posting this information about Abutilons, it has really got me excited. I've had a low bushy variety in a large container for years and it withstands anything the English winter seems to throw at it but I do keep it tucked away against a south-facing brick wall. However, after seeing the towering, magnificent, exotic specimens in your greenhouse, I have been overcome with Abutilon Envy and I think I am going to have to expand my collection! BTW I am so glad I discovered your channel, I really appreciate your straightforward and down-to-earth manner.
Thank you for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the video!
You had me at hummingbirds!!! I'm in zone 6 so it would have to winter indoors...
I love these videos..thank you
Glad you like them!
These are so beautiful, I have the Brazilian bell flower
the best thing about abutilon is shade tolerance - they can still bloom nicely even with no direct sun, in full shade or in the house as a house plant.
Got one from your nursery this year, thank you!
Hope you like it!
Beautiful plant. I wish I could grow it here in Southern California. I am a bit inland and it get in the 90s in the summer and Fall. Too warm for these plants unfortunately
Maybe you can. I live60 miles east of Los Angeles and I have one , needs no protection in winter and keep it out of afternoon sun when it’s hot. It’s going into its second year. Looks good in May
I've had one in a pot growing onto a round trellis for a year. The leaves are pretty, but no blooms yet. Possibly time to pot up and get more sunshine!
I live in the Lower Keys and I have one that is growing beautifully in a pot. It does need water daily.
Got one too.
Beware! Deer love this plant! One day my young plant looked great, the next morning it was chomped beyond recognition! I dug it up and replanted in a pot and put in the backyard where it’s safe. It came back and I just saw a lantern on it!!
Mine does just fine in South Florida.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you sooo much from Germany!
Love abutilon very much, have some about a lot of years. Unfortunately they are getting yellow leafes again and again, which than dry up and fall off. Could' t see any yellow leaf at your marvellos plant.
I've got some yellow and red blooming plants.
Could you maybe tell me where I could get seeds from this "red tiger" called one?
Kind regards
Simone
I have one
From Bangladesh ♥️
I just received mine that I ordered from you, beautiful plant, carefully packaged and shipped, arrived in great shape. Where should I plant it, full sun? Would they spread too much?
It's in New York where will be planted. Thanks in advance,
Thank you for ordering from Logee's. Red Tiger needs full sun and is an upright grower and does not spread. We have it in our greenhouse in a pot and it reaches up and weeps over which displays the blooms which look like little lanterns beautifully. We hope you enjoy your Abutilon!
Is it hardy in zone7? I have one inside in a pot but I’d like to put it outside this month and I’m not sure what temperature is too low
It’s hardy down to freezing, and could withstand temperatures in the high 20’s, probably down to the warm side of zone 8.
Are the also called Chinese Lanterns
WOW...WHERE DO YOU FIND THIS PLANT ???? LOL
