A former co-worker thinks I'm crazy to do "all that keto stuff". She explained that I don't have to do anything but get my doctor to give me Ozempic. She's type 2 and on Ozempic. She eats all the same crap she's always eaten, just less of it. The result is that she's just a slightly, smaller size, type 2, who is just as unhealthy as ever. I, on the other hand, have lost 60 lbs on "all that keto stuff". I feel much better and am considerably healthier than I was.
I 100% attribute my daughter being born healthy when I was 38 after 10+ years of not even having a period, to Dr. Cywes and his advice and no nonsense approach. I did not gain 1 pounds, in fact I lost 50 pounds while pregnant and the doctors were all amazed (I was very high risk) at how healthy I was staying. I just told them I was keeping my carbs low. I have gotten my mom and my 19 year old son on keto now. It pisses me off that so many people are so sick because our government and corporations do not want what's best for people.
All these medications do is protecting the profits of the processed food industry. And providing another profit to the health industry. If you promote these medications, you will be part of that system. There is no compromise
Here are some interesting headlines: Ozempic Users Report Stomach Paralysis from Weight Loss Drug / They were diagnosed with severe gastroparesis or paralyzed stomachs. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is no cure for gastroparesis other than management. One patient was also diagnosed with cyclical vomiting syndrome, a disorder that causes multiple unexplained bouts of vomiting every day. Just a little added info.
Ozempic gave a dear loved one of mine severe anxiety THEY DIDN'T HAVE BEFORE TAKING OZEMPIC! They stopped it and it almost completely went away but there are still lingering affects. Beware of the side effects! Nothing can replace the proper human diet. 11:02
I’m so thankful that you are teaching others to use a multi-prong approach. It’s more than just eating less, it’s understanding why we turn to food to cope with life, and also educating ourselves about real nutrition. Just like anyone who tries to stop smoking, a multiple prong approach always lends for higher chances of success. Thanks again for great wisdom!
I think the objection is also because people often want an easy treatment, a pill at the expense of the solution. They lose focus of the behaviors that need to be changed.
Because of your advocacy, I thought maybe the GLP-1 would help me quit insulin. I was already very low carb, mostly carnivore for over 18 mo, but was still using small amts of insulin to keep my blood sugar in range. I began Mounjaro in November. But I developed a rash, not at the injection site. I didn’t associate it with the Mounjaro; my doctor and I thought it was a contact dermatitis. In January, I started having other problems, and the rash had spread, though my blood sugar was great. By February, my hypothyroidism was out of control, the rash was all over my body, and I was having all sorts of tests. Endocrinology kept saying, this has nothing to do with the Mounjaro, keep going. I was on the second lowest dose, never needed more. Dermatologist said, “this is an autoimmune response; it’s granuloma annulare.” By this time, I was pretty sick, had been having thyroid meds adjusted every 6 weeks, steroid injections and creams, and had been prescribed more hypertension medication. I stopped the Mounjaro in early May, despite endocrinology’s insistence that it wasn’t the problem. My thyroid is slowly recovering, but my rash is still everywhere, and my blood sugar levels have gone crazy, from my standpoint, between 114- 189, despite eating only animal products and a bit of lettuce, cabbage, avocado. I’m still keto/carnivore. I don’t drink coffee, because I cannot tolerate caffeine. I don’t snack, have never been a snacker. My goal throughout the last 4-5 years has been reversing diabetes, and metabolic health. I will never willingly take one of these drugs again.
You want to come off insulin, do a 5 day fast. Half your insulin at least the first day and none the rest of the time. Shouldn't need insulin when you start eating carnivore again.
@@jonduncan05yeah, did that, well, I did a 4 day fast, not 5. Sadly, it didn’t work that way. Fasting worked much better me before I added the Mounjaro. My whole system is still struggling to recover from that drug, even though I stopped it in May.
2/3 of the weight loss on these meds is lean mass. Getting these folks back from pre and full diabetes is excellent. People on the meds need to take the opportunity to increase their protein and get a basic exercise plan in place. This will help fix the sarco and osteopenia that are the big negative issues.
When I run out of cream (36-48%fat) for my morning coffee I do a “bulletproof” version of it. I mix 1 yolk, 1 spoon of butter or coconut oil, a pinch of salt and a pinch of cinnamon. Then I add it to my black coffee. The effect? Yummy, sugar free coffee with foam on top 🙂 Enjoy your day and stay in ketosis!
Absolutely spot on. Love Dr. Cywes! A suggestion... carb addiction is real. If you do decide to take this medication, get with Dr. Cywes or at least someone who deals with the psychological/addiction side of carbohydrates why you need/want this medication in the first place. It will definitely be needed during the dosing and the coming off these types of medications so you won't gain it all back afterward. Thank you Dr. Cywes!
Just started on zepbound after two solid months of strict keto (tracking macros and 120 to 140 g of protein daily) and intermittent fasting, even prior to taking the medication I had solid appetite control, and was down 27 pounds from keto alone. Two days into zepbound my desire to eat has nearly gone away completely. I tried eating around 200 calories worth of food in the evening and immediately became nauseous. Id be suprised if I get 1000 calories today. Hopefully things get better, or I'll probably just go back to Keto since I was losing weight just fine without it.
My 83 yr old mom is a T2 diabetic and takes Omempic. It has done wonder for her as she has lost a ton of weight, feels much better about herself and has allowed her to live a much better life. Everything has trade offs… yes there may be some side effects but at her age, she is living a much improved life and Ozempic is a big part of this. Great video Dr Cywes!!
My doc had no problem prescribing ozampic via email, not even an office visit. But, I could not afford it so I'm back to trying to get better one day at a time.
I'm willing to bet that most of the people making negative comments are eating the standard american diet and have no clue as to how the ketogenic diet works and how eating fat, such as fat in heavy cream, butter, mct oil, and fatty meats, etc, are essential in your body having the proper requirements to allow for ketone production along with a very low carb (20 grams or under for me). I check my ketones regularly with my keto mojo and know the amount of fat i include in my low carb moderate protein diet makes a significant difference.
Please ask gastroenterologist or anesthesiologist how long solid foods are found in the stomach after SEVERAL days of no solid foods (while taking these particular weight loss meds). That can’t be healthy.
My husband points out, wisely, that by the time you end up in Clinic Cywes, you are so sick and desperate that you will try ANYTHING to reclaim your life…!
I agree. I have been doing IF-16/8, Ketovore and have been taking Ozempic for the past 3 months (due to metabolic issues). My health has turned around in all metabolic areas. I have learnt a new way of eating while Ozempic has helped reduce my appetite. I don't plan to be on it forever but it has been very helpful in changing my eating behaviours. My doctor was excellent and advised me to do exactly what you described. I have had no adverse affects from the ozempic combining IF and ketovore.
This was an excellent video with balance and practical advice. Thank you! The injection helped me to make the transition to healthy keto and fasting which I couldn’t seem to manage alone
Dr Mark is here is WV. Every patient has his cell number. This guy cares, he puts the time into his patients. If he says you don't need it, i believe him. But he does so much ongoing followup, that's why he doesn't use it
I came off Ozempic last August and for 6 weeks my body tried to put on weight luckily I just plateaued and then started losing again was 102 lbs weight loss when I stopped I've now lost 130lbs. I stopped because of gastric disturbance and never got beyond 1 mg. To be fair they started me on it when it was first licenced in the UK and then the pandemic struck and the follow ups disappeared but I do not regret starting it but it wasn't the panacea for me that it was hyped to be. I am much happier off it than on but I agree if you are struggling you will try anything and I had been ketogenic for 12months when I stopped so I had the tools by then to go alone. But when I started I was not advised about diet if I had had this advice I would have gained more benefit. Thank you Dr Cywes for your valuable common sense.
My main goal is to eliminate all medications that did nothing but made more side effects and made me feel worse.. since on carnivore I’m off metformin and Celebrex .. both with dozens of side effects .. made my life challenging..
If I understood you correctly, you see that some people cannot succeed at eating a proper human diet. I can certainly relate to the EXTREME difficulty in doing so. At 71 years of age, I started Keto. Because it was the type recommended by Dr. Berg (lots of salad, which I loved) I was able to stay on it for about a year. It lessened my arthritis pain in ALL of my joints (by X-ray I should have had knee replacements), lowered my BP to normal, normalized blood sugar, and I lost 70#, half of what I needed to lose for my health. But after having a holiday with family making ethnic foods (homemade breads),I had a devil of a time getting back on Keto, for 8 months. I am the carb addict you’ve described in your videos on the subject. I eventually was able to switch to Carnivore and enjoyed the good physical sensations, yet I struggled to stay with it for more than a month at a time. Carb cravings won out each time. It took me a year to reach this point, but I can tell you that this is the first time in my life I’ve been carb-craving-free. In the past I lost 100# twice, using liquid protein (in my 30’s) and eating a good healthy meal every third day, but always went back to carbs. I later gained 100# during my pregnancy. I never lost much of it until Keto. I walked on 2 canes 6 years ago. During Keto I walked cane-free and almost pain-free on the beach, for 2 miles/day. Then I got COVID last Spring and fell back to ground zero. Today I am on Carnivore and this week I am walking 1.5 to 2.5 miles daily, totally pain-free. That is my happiest success, but almost equally happy is my freedom from carb cravings. My story, of course is much more complex, but I think you have enough info to know I am one of those people you describe. Yet I finally made it to this point, thanks to Carnivore, and despite some serious problems with Oxalates. Now when I discover a food I’ve eaten has a hidden sugar, or is just not good for me, instead of giving in to carbs, I am able to persist in my nutrition plan. Something has changed in my physiology (not just my psyche). After 74 years of struggle! I have yet to lose more weight, but healing many other issues is my priority, so I will be patient. So you’ll understand if I don’t accept that folks* just can’t succeed. It is indeed possible. I only wish I’d known about all of this when I was young. And I only hope that other people who struggle can have much knowledge to help with their struggles. *caveat: I’ve been blessed with an inquisitive mind and a good amount of native intelligence. Maybe folks without those blessings, but other great qualities instead, have more trouble even than I. For me, knowledge is what helps me succeed.
Yes.... it's just the same as calorific restriction....people by % reduce the good fats protein and fibre ....then are in a negative state to sustain good health and reduce metabolic rate which simply increases weight gain if too much of the regular wrong diet is resumed .
So happy to hear your tips. I had vsg back in 2015. I’ve since gained back plus more all I lost. I started tirzepitide July 1st. This stuff is amazing. I feel like I’m back to those beginning weeks after surgery. Im doing very low carb. This medicine has made it so much easier, it’s working in my brain. I have at least 200 pounds to lose. Im going on my third week and down 13 pounds. I did get blood work done before starting so it’ll be neat to see the outcome.
@@Isaac5123 no its not the placebo effect. I've done low carb before. I've tried every diet before. No matter what I tried I always, ALWAYS have my mind telling me to eat. I never ate because I was hungry. I ate because I love food. I loved to cook. That didn't stop even with surgery. I would push my stomach to the limit. This medicine is a total game changer. Unless you've had to deal with this and need to lose sooo much weight. You have no idea what's going on in my head. It's an awful consuming thing to live with every day. So yes this medication is helping me tremendously.
I’m glad the medicine is helping you feel in control. Dr Cywes certainly imparted sage wisdom in this video. I hope you find the support you need and can reach your health goals. It’s a continual journey….always adjusting and modifying for new chapters. Like he mentioned, the mental aspect is as important as modifying what we eat. Best wishes.
@@patvaughn9987 agree. I wasn't ready when I had my vsg surgery. I've changed my entire way of eating in just these 3 weeks. Could I continue of I didn't have the extra "tool"? I don't know. I hope after a long bit of this plus working on my "diet" & mind I can truly change. Ty for your words.
This was Awesome. It exemplifies the reason why Dr. Cywes probably won't get the huge subscriber numbers of some other low-carb docs out there: just balanced, well reasoned assessments from a clinical practitioner who has the education, experience and intent to help as many as possible. Their snappy slogans and salesmanship don't serve us in the long run; your advice does.
There is so much miss information on the net about semaglutide. I had just watched Dr. Barry's video so this was great timing for me. My doc just started me on it for type 2. I really appreciate getting advice from Dr. CyWes who uses it all the time for his patients. Thank you for making this video.
Why not just fix the diet and forget the drug? People will do anything to keep eating carbs. It really is an addiction. I have been on a carnivore diet for 1.5 years. It can be done. Where there is a will there is a way.
They can be thought as a transitional tool to reduce carb cravings when you are transitioning to a very low carb diet. Taking it for no more than 6 months and relatively low doses reduces the risks of side effects. Then they can be used again only in circumstances where the person is going through extreme stress and may feel the urge to binge on carbs again
I agree. I started low carb 21 months ago after being diagnosed with diabetes. I told the doctor I would try diet first. After less than 3 months my A1C had dropped to normal. That amazed me, but what astounded me was not craving foods like I used to, as well as losing weight without trying. Due to back and knee issues I can only do gentle exercise, stretching and strengthening and I have a sedentary lifestyle so it had nothing to do with exercise causing the weight loss. I'm no longer a slave to food. My daughter bought be a box of 6 jam tarts after 1 year low carb and I didn't know what to do about them. I decided to try one and freeze the rest. It took me about 3 months to eat all of them. Pre low carb I would have eaten 3 on the afternoon I was given them and then probably the other 3 by lunch time the next day. And the funny thing was that even though they tasted nice they weren't as nice as they would have been before low carb.
@jobrown8146 I went on the carnivore diet for gut issues vs diabetes. I went cold turkey to zero carbs which I think is best. I have totally lost interest in eating carbs. I don't think carbs should be weaned off of same as cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. This drug is only going to prolong the inevitable or people will be on it for life. And no one can tell me anything that can take our your pancreas is safe.
@loriereid458 Anyone serious about a low carb diet must politely decline goodies from well meaning sugar pushing family members and friends. My mother-in-law is a sweet loving sugar pusher. I just say no. She even feeds her goodies to her diabetic guests who never refuse...
I asked for a CGM when I was given Mounjaro for T2D. Carbs became my enemy. I lost weight because I gave them up. It also helped when the shortages resulted in no Mounjaro for six weeks. My last A1C was 4.9.
I was a fan of OZEMPIC because it reduced my weight from 154kg (340lb) to 125kg (276lb) in roughly 2 months. The Australian Govt put a ban on it given Diabetics were running out of medication which, even though frustrating is totally understandable. My weight then climbed to 152 in a short period of time. That’s when I changed to Carnivore. I did have big problems in the GI tract adjusting to this change having bad diarrhoea for 3 weeks. Mentally it was exhausting. Now I’m 131kg and am not eating pure Carnivore as I find just eating meat incredibly boring. I do try to stay as close as I can to the principle of no carbs, no sugars, no sweetners of any kind. Trouble is even sausages have plant based fillers, sauces etc are the same. Would I use Ozempic or equivalent again? No. After being on tons of medication since 2012, the last couple of months I’ve been able to wean of them. The only one I take as required is THC free CBD oil for chronic pain. I believe Ozempic like many meds are detrimental to your body. Be very careful about what you put in your body as the side effects long term are not known for sure and every body will react differently.
There has been a food industry trend to adding starchy fillers and sugary sauces to trays of supermarket meat products in Australia. You have to look carefully at what you're buying to ensure it's just meat. Together with the increase in prices, this has driven me to mostly buying roasting pieces of meat which with specials can be bought in the $8 to $15 per kilo range. It's a little bit monotonous to eat them up as I just cook for myself, but it's good to always have cold meat for lunches, and you can add leftovers to stews, stir fries and curries. As you mention, sausages are mostly out because of added starches and other undesirable additives, but you can make your own meatballs from mince.
@@vernaxxx8940 Thanks for this. I recently went to Lenard’s (for those outside 🇦🇺, they make prepared chicken ready to cook products), which though convenient is yet another trap, the breadcrumbs, other fillers in some products sure make cooking a breeze but the carbs go against my goal. I’m interested in air frying, but have yet to get the courage to use our new machine. I’m also a bit concerned about oven use due to the amount of power they use with the current rip off price increases of 36% just for the usage (the daily charge is up 20%). I must admit, doing one big roast, then using it cold afterwards is a good idea. Lenard’s is not cheap either. I think Rump is reasonable as well as having a bit of soft fat (I hate gristle), or the chewy sinue, as well pan fried is quicker and uses way less energy. I use a lid on low heat and it is just beautiful. Eye fillet I have tried and for the price is a ripoff especially given the sinues, gristle etc. I’m fairly new to cooking in general and carnivore too. Sausages unfortunately are out for me, but mince is great as it can be versatile. Cheers
@@vernaxxx8940 Ditto, but if possible exporting (although a third the import cost) is preferable. I recently bought a cast iron grill from BCF for $30 and use this on the hot plates. It sizzles the meat better than pan and leaves that characteristic burn pattern. I’m a hopeless cook, so Lion suits me better and is quicker. I’m thinking about giving roasts a go, as I like that idea of cold meats instead of cooking all the time. My stews are getting better. Cheers.
Has anyone noticed that carnivore, keto, and fasting have become modern forms of religion? Everyone trying to sell something including hope. Pills, powders, potions, consults, and gadgets are being pushed by the high priests and priestesses of these new religions.
I’ve been doing Ketovore since March and I’m 77 yrs old. I don’t push my food style on others but my health is improved and my doctor had to cut my meds in half. It’s the first diet type I’ve not had problems staying on. I don’t consider it a religious thing but I just am getting healthier
Dr Cywes, given your recommendation to stay on a half dose of Ozempic (0.5mg) in order to minimize the risk of pancreatitis, what's your feeling about the Weygovy version being available and recommended up to 2.4 mg?
The conflicting veiw pionts can be confusing. Your explaintion put things into perspective, thank you. (My goal in life is to never to require an ongoing prescription 🫢).
The more sophisticated the medication becomes, the less idea we have what it will do in the individual. I took medication for Crohn's for 25 years long or short several different anti body injections. If you have any potential side effect, they have no idea what to do. And the latest medications, are even scarier. And it's not like they at least work 100%. No way. It's just everything the industry has to offer. I don't think we are helping anyone offering the drugs long term.
My cardiologist wants to put me on Ozempic for congestive heart failure. I accidentally knocked my CGM off yesterday, but in the last 10 days, even if I ate carbs (another doc insisted I do the BRAT diet for a couple week due to infectious diarrhea) my blood sugar didn't go above 120, and generally runs in the 70s. So maybe I wouldn't have as hard a time starting it? Anyway this video helped me understand what it does, and the suggestions for starting it are extremely valuable! Thank you!
Me too. Why is he making a point by criticizing “his friend” Dr. Berry? Just make the point without bringing shame to a doctor who is doing his best to help people.
I asked my doctor about losing weight a year ago, and he perked up and said there was a medication that had just come out, but supply was scarce. Shortly after that i learnt about low carb diets and lost the weight of my own accord. So i feel very lucky. However i am not opposed to people taking it, since it appears that many people don't have the self-discipline to alter their diets. It's better that they take medication to address their fatty livers, visceral fat, and type 2 diabetes by whatever means, rather than pack out public hospitals getting their ailments treated. Better for the public purse as well as their own welfare.
So now these people will be on that for the rest of their lives and the side effects will show up. Plus they will never change. Can be used as a tool, but once it works for them, no incentive to do nothing else. I think the tool angle would be just as hard, if not harder then going keto.
I eat less than 10 carbs in one meal a day. In 13 months I have lost 100 lbs without ever feeling hungry. I eat sardines, beef and a little pork. No need for any medication.
When I want to add cream to my coffee I add a bit of kefir to my and leave out on counter. It lowers the bump from the small amount of sugar and actually makes it taste a bit better too.
Would Ozempic cause bilateral hydronephrosis? I'm 50 and was diagnosed with it 2.5 months into taking Ozempic so I stopped injections immediately. I'm scared to restart.
I just noticed Dr Cywes looks exactly like he did 3 years ago. Like Dr Ken Berry, you both have pinned in YT an older video of yourselves. Dr Berry's pinned video is 5 years old. He looks noticeably younger now. It's a positive thing both men aren't aging much. But Dr Berry is antiaging due to regularly incorporating intermittent fasting routine. Also Dr Berry only practices as a medical consultant/speaker & rest of time works on his sheep farm (getting lots of natural exercise).
"...the purpose of the heavy cream is to get me into ketosis" -- can you, or someone, explain? Would you not already be in ketosis first thing in the morning?
Thank you Dr. Cywes for this advice. I plan on using ozempic as a tool . I will use this preparation of fasting a day before, and stay very very low carb before I start and during it. I want to lose some weight to help my diabetes.
@@1timbarrett headache, belly pain, puked my toenails up for four days following every shot, weakness, trembling. After seven weeks of that I decided that I would rather be dead than live like that.
My problem with these meds is getting off of them. With that you get a 20-30 point glucose rise, and your body has to fight that on the 3 levels that the medication works on.
Such great advice!!! Type2 & on it with keto diet since January...everything across the board has gotten better...but I'm on highest dose even eating a strict keto diet...it's rough.
@private9013 Dr. Cywes is the LAST doctor who will tell you to take Rx drugs. *The whole message of this video is to help desperate people use the drug as a temporary band-aid with caution and moderation.* The best motivation to stay on the right path is to see some weight-loss progress. SOME people need a kick start band-aid. What they choose to do after that is their choice. This doctor sees mortally obese patients every day. People who have been on "diets" their whole life and failed. He's honest, moderate and very wise.
I won't lie, it feels like a cheat, a shortcut. You put it on the hard way you should lose it the hard way. I know it's not kind but I feel ozempic resentment... also it will lead to more fat Shaming and also medical haves and have nots
I have been on for 8 weeks now. My worst side effect is extreme lethargy and fatigue from Days 2 through Day 4 after the injection. I don't know how common that is.
@drcywes My sister in law went on a now carb diet with a dr who gave her duromine and a pill for het Thyroid. She lost so much weight. My question is- is it safe? I’ve been in keto for more than a year and tried carnivore etc but my weight won’t go past 70kg and I am 1.67cm tall. I would love to use the pills to help me get below the 70’s.
Perhaps I'm luck enough to be addiction resistant. I have always love sweets but when I got a CAC score of 429 in May, I went from keto to carnivore. I went off for a day when my grandson had a graduation party but right back on the following day. Given that personal experience it's hard for me to see the need for ozempic type drugs. I do realize that there are many others who struggle and I'm glad you are there for us all. Down 30 pounds since my March keto change. My doc has never teested me for A1C so I don't know how diabetic I may have been. She was horrified that I was on fatty meat diet even though I had lost 15 or 20 pounds and my TG were down. The LDL was all she cared about.
I always see old movies and pictures of the old days when people where thin and healthy... So I think these days that any medication or vitamin is only making someone rich... You could put dog poop in a capsule and say it’s healthy earthy medication... And make me rich..
I don't know... here are my 5 cents, for those taking to lose weight what are the long-term side effects? Sure in the short term, it works, but no one can say what it does to 10-20-30-40 years down the line. We have to stop with the probability and act on the possibilities of it causing long-term damage.
I have been on Ozempic for 1.5 years @1 - my blood sugar is almost normal - can I drop down to .5 Ozempic? I am ketovore and still need to lose 40 lbs - Age 75. On Ozempic I lost 30lbs of my 90 lb loss. 18/6 - 2 meals/day. Hypothyroid on meds. It has taken years to lose weight. The doc who put me on Ozempic did not inform me about the drug and my GP has no idea.
I need to accept that my GP in some cases knows even less than I do.😢 Still struggling with the notion that there are no more wise medicine men out there…😢😢😢
Hey Dr. Cywes. I'm expecting a dramatic increase in cases of extreme psychological addiction to semaglutides. The fear of getting fat again will be overwhelming for some. But isn't that what they want. Lifelong users. I still wonder if the muscle (and other things) loss is really caused by the lack of protein consumption. Does semaglutide-induced glp-1 "secretion" tell your body that you've eaten something when you actually haven't? Elevated insulin and lowered glucagon. But no resulting blood sugar increase. What's keeping your body from metabolizing other things along with body fat? Just asking. Thanks for the info.
Well I know if I lose the 200 pounds I have to lose I would be very afraid to gain it back. So hopefully buy then I will be able to do it on my own by learning the correct way to eat without the meds. I’ve had vsg surgery too but I guess I want mentally prepared. I will do what I have to keep this terrible weight off. But I’m my eyes this is a very good tool to go with the vsg. But I could see people becoming addicted to it.
Someday humans will realize that we are born to MOVE, for which we need skeletal muscle, which as we all know pulls on skeletal BONES, thereby making them more dense and less feeble. People, get with the program: lift heavy things!😮 💪
What is the best way to "turn down" gluconeogenesis? My husband has been carnivore since April 2018, and he did great at first with reversing prediabetes, fatty liver, and losing weight, but his vomiting episodes did not improve, so he took amitriptyline from Sept 2019 to Spring 2020 (he no longer takes it) and it started reversing all the benefits of carnivore. He keeps getting worse with his weight, his fatty liver is back (and enlarged), and A1C is climbing. A few days ago I had him start taking 600 mcg/day of chromium picolinate and 2 g/day biotin because I read that it can increase glucokinase activity which suppresses hepatocyte transcription of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, which reduces gluconeogenesis. Those are my only thoughts as to what's happening. He *has* to be making too much glucose, because he doesn't consume it. His insulin is sky high, which is evidence he's having to work hard to keep his blood sugar from going sky high. I booked an appointment, but you're not available until February 14. I don't know what's wrong with him and I think that maybe he has an inborn error of metabolism that is maybe causing his vomiting episodes, and wreaking havoc on his metabolism in general. The last two Sundays during an episode, he was slurring his words, acting drunk, and smelled like (to me) alcohol. Yet he drank nothing. And his hands tremble like crazy, yet his BG will be 6.0 or 6.1 mmol/L and blood ketones 0.4. We're in Canada and it's very hard to get healthcare.
Have doctors check for Auto Brewery Syndrome ( I am not a dr but had a friend with your husbands symptoms…his problem stemmed from too many antibiotics)
@@lisawarner2139 he hasn't taken antibiotics in many years, and no, doctors haven't checked for ABS. He would only be able to get it done at the ER while he's symptomatic, which is like a 20 hour wait here. And I doubt it's ABS with him being carnivore. You need carbohydrates to ferment and produce alcohol.
I have been low carb since 1996. I am so adapted to eating meat that my blood sugar is regularly 100 or so even after being carnivore for three years. What I have been doing is upping my fat intake. I drink lots of half and half because I just can’t seem to get enough fat any other way. I won’t get another blood test till November but I do seem to be losing weight again after gaining eating all the meat I wanted. But I am 73 so I don’t know if younger men could eat all the meat they wanted. But maybe really upping his fat intake to 2/3 or 3/4 of his calories might help. Fat has twice as many calories per gram as protein so for 2/3 calorie intake portion sizes would be equal. That is hard to gauge when you are drinking your fats. 9:29
@@SarahPoulin It doesn’t seem theoretically possible to have high blood sugar with very low carbs and very low protein. You can’t make sugar from fat. I heard a doctor say once that humans really are lipivoirs. Maybe your husband is extremely so.
Here's an interesting headline: Ozempic manufacturer Novo Nordisk spent $11 million last year ‘wining and dining’ doctors. Experts slam the move as a breach of doctor-patient trust.
Would it be something to consider just to speed up weight loss? I'm doing a strict carnivore and while I lose weight it's not a lot -- I think because of exercise because I am losing inches. But if you're morbidly obese, is it worth it to try and go faster? If your health is improving without it? (my blood pressure is down to normal, no diabetes and normal A1C). It kind of sounds like a "miracle drug" for someone wants or needs a short cut. I'm really not worried about how fast I lose the weight - unless I should be for health reasons.
Strange advise, doc. Why, if they could do that for a week, wouldn't they just continue then?? Makes no sence. That diet for the 7 first days would be ideal start to continue their journey. They would then be in ketosis and that'll be that!! No need for the drug then!!
Long term side effects of ALL of these prescription drugs is not known. Eat well (like your distant ancestors did) and be a little uncomfortable once in a while and you will be better off in the end. Go for a walk. Get a dog. Turn off the news. Buy yourself flowers instead of cookies. Smile.
This is exactly the way I am doing Saxenda! Keeping the dosage low, keeping the fats and protein up! Don’t see a reason to increase the dosage as long as I losing at my current dosage…Lost 10 pounds in the first month. Hoping that the loss is fat not muscle..my pants are looser. 💜
Yes!!! I'm only at 2.5 and loding. It's only my third full week but I've lost 20 pound. I'm extremely overweight so I get losing a lot at first. But I'm not upping my dose until I see the weight loss slow down.
Valid points, Dr Cywes... Now - please, address the side effect of the eventual loss of taste. This side effect is moving people to commit self-eradication.
It pisses me off that so many people are so sick because our government and corporations do not want what's best for people.
i agree, the chemicals alone that our govt allows in food is literally killing people!

Ozempic does seem to have really good clinical outcoimes , especially for those with Type II.
Ozempic prescriptions will break our health insurance programs. 😮
@@robertcywes2966 okay we can be against all the above
@nicholascanada3123 Who cares?
This is the bane of allopathic medicine.
Bravo!!! YEAH YOU!!!
Keep going.
Michaela Peterson is an inspiration and you should hear her story.
You will get there, you are your best advocate.
Hi! Have you tried eating less protein and more fat? Protein can be turned into glucose if you eat more protein than you need.
2/3 of the weight loss on these meds is lean mass. Getting these folks back from pre and full diabetes is excellent. People on the meds need to take the opportunity to increase their protein and get a basic exercise plan in place. This will help fix the sarco and osteopenia that are the big negative issues.
Berry's concern is that the drug increases insulin resistance.
Yup. Ozempic may not be the best solution long-term. 😢
Also, that people aren’t nourishing themselves and just trying to hack their satiety signals.
Dr. Berry' s issue besides side affects and the future unknown is use without change of diet. They must go together
Excellent recipe for anyone who can tolerate the ingredients. Thank you! 🙏
sounds delish!
Personally, I'm very skeptical to anything being sold by any pharmaceutical company. But Dr. Berry is a reasonable man. I bet he would agree with you.
My doc had no problem prescribing ozampic via email, not even an office visit. But, I could not afford it so I'm back to trying to get better one day at a time.
In the long-term you may be better off than the “rich” people who can afford the weight-loss medications. 🙏
Dr. Cywes, thank you for this rational and practical information. 🛡🔰⚕
Thank you for recognizing the desperation some folks feel after decades of failed efforts at weight management. 👍
Aren’t we all weary of short-term solutions and their long-term effects? 😢
Thank you, your videos are a great learning tool. You get to the point without it taking an hour.
You need snake diet guy
It's the placebo effect. You being on very low carbon is what does it
@@Isaac5123 no its not the placebo effect.
Thank you so much for explaining this information! You have so much compassion for people.
You need to tell your daughter no more jam tarts though! She can bring you some steak or eggs instead! 😁👍
Ppf no need for meds, unless there no other answer to stay alive. Go Berry 🤘

Thanks for this.
Cheers
Martinlang9615 I have rooftop solar so I do my roasts on sunny days to minimize my grid power consumption.
Thank you for this valuable patient information, will be sharing with my SA colleagues.
Yes my diet was crap this guy is correct
My cardiologist wants to put me on Ozempic for congestive heart failure. I accidentally knocked my CGM off yesterday, but in the last 10 days, even if I ate carbs (another doc insisted I do the BRAT diet for a couple week due to infectious diarrhea) my blood sugar didn't go above 120, and generally runs in the 70s. So maybe I wouldn't have as hard a time starting it? Anyway this video helped me understand what it does, and the suggestions for starting it are extremely valuable! Thank you!
I am very disappointed in Dr. Cywes
Me too. Why is he making a point by criticizing “his friend” Dr. Berry? Just make the point without bringing shame to a doctor who is doing his best to help people.
Trulicity and Ketones work for me. But they charge too much money for it for those who need it and can’t afford it.
Good on you for recognizing that many people lack self-discipline. 👏
Yep keep the pharmaceutical companies in business 🤦♀️
Good video Dr. Cywes. I'm hoping I can lose my fat without Ozempic.
Best wishes with your fat-loss journey. 🙏
Question for Dr Cywes - out of the GLP1 medications - is there 1 you prefer over the others for your patients??
So now these people will be on that for the rest of their lives and the side effects will show up. Plus they will never change. Can be used as a tool, but once it works for them, no incentive to do nothing else. I think the tool angle would be just as hard, if not harder then going keto.
I eat less than 10 carbs in one meal a day. In 13 months I have lost 100 lbs without ever feeling hungry. I eat sardines, beef and a little pork. No need for any medication.
Excellent EXCELLENT advice Doctor! I’m not on Ozempic but know more and more people who are on it.
DrBoz is just as against Ozempic as Dr Berry
That is something I LOVE about Dr Annette “No Nonsense” Boz. I wish I had had an older sister like her.😢
When I want to add cream to my coffee I add a bit of kefir to my and leave out on counter.
I keep trying keto and carnivore but have no energy to do cardio/work out hard, also my sleep is horrible, what is the answer?
Thank you Dr. Cywes for this advice. I plan on using ozempic as a tool . I will use this preparation of fasting a day before, and stay very very low carb before I start and during it. I want to lose some weight to help my diabetes.
The cost involved is staggering and the side effects for me were absolutely horrendous.
Please list the side effects you experienced. 🙏 It would be helpful info for the rest of us. Forewarned is forearmed as they say… 💪

What about long term weight maintenance? Is there data to suggest that keto or these drugs actually help with that?
Totally! Smartest doctor
Blood sugar going up isn't scary. Adaptive physiological response. But lets take toxic pharmaceuticals yay
elevated blood sugar is horribly destructive on the body.
@@Mary.Mercedes He's an MD. He's a glorified pill pusher for the Toxic drug mafia
Sorry doc, Berry wins every time.
Curious. Why would BS go DOWN six points after cream in coffee? What physiology is involved?
The LDL was all she cared about.
i love your approach.
Follow the money..
Very interesting and informative, thank you
I always see old movies and pictures of the old days when people where thin and healthy...
So I think these days that any medication or vitamin is only making someone rich...
You could put dog poop in a capsule and say it’s healthy earthy medication...
And make me rich..
Dr Rob. I tried to contact you from SA but the wattsapp nor email address works......
Doesn’t Ozempic cause gastroparesis in some. The stomach doesn’t empty and that is why you aren’t hungry?
I don't know... here are my 5 cents, for those taking to lose weight what are the long-term side effects? Sure in the short term, it works, but no one can say what it does to 10-20-30-40 years down the line. We have to stop with the probability and act on the possibilities of it causing long-term damage.
You are so amazing to listen to. Love your posts. So informative.
@1timbarrett, but not too much, pro bodybuilders have a lower life expectancy than people who only walk.
Correction to my post. Semaglutide does not induce the secretion of glp-1 but mimics the peptide hormone.
So this was an advertisement???
All his videos are.
nice thing with full fat milk is that there is no fructose
Good Job Doc
Milk in my coffee does not spike my blood sugar and I'm in remission of type 2
I shohave watched the whole video
Thanks. Good vid
@@davidgmillsatty1900 we've already done that quite some time ago. Not working.
@@SarahPoulin It doesn’t seem theoretically possible to have high blood sugar with very low carbs and very low protein. You can’t make sugar from fat. I heard a doctor say once that humans really are lipivoirs. Maybe your husband is extremely so.
It raises insulin. That is my problem with it!
I'm really not worried about how fast I lose the weight - unless I should be for health reasons.
sounds like you are doing a fine job without it. Stay the course!
How much do these cost? And they say carnivore is expensive...😂
Strange advise, doc. Why, if they could do that for a week, wouldn't they just continue then?? Makes no sence. That diet for the 7 first days would be ideal start to continue their journey. They would then be in ketosis and that'll be that!! No need for the drug then!!
Same as why an alcoholic can abstain for a week and not be able to quit forever. Addiction is a very nasty monster. Carb addiction is real.
Imagine if there was an effortless zero-cost cure to obesity!
As much as I love what you are doing I'm tired of this ad-sh!t.
Valid points, Dr Cywes... Now - please, address the side effect of the eventual loss of taste. This side effect is moving people to commit self-eradication.
