Fun fact! TfW are going to save a lot more Mk4s from the Scrap God, as they plan to upgrade their Manchester Airport services to run with them as well. Can't wait to see that come into full fruition.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel Oh for sure. I'll be definitely giving it a go. Last time I used the service was from Piccadilly to Warrington, and the single 158 did not suffice 😂😂
IC225 are definitely my favourites. The 1st class is easily the best I’ve seen in the UK, Had breakfast on the train and later tea on the train and it was absolutely amazing. The service there is great too. Can’t wait to see the whole fleet back in the Swallow livery. Hope the rest of the Class 91’s have a good future after they’re withdrawn from service
I always enjoyed the look of the 91 IC225s, my father has a friend who always travels to the UK and takes it, and ever since I was a kid I was in envy of just the look of them. I am glad that it is still being ran, and even after retirement instead of being sent to the Scrap God its being sent elsewhere so others can have premium seats. As you said Dan all of the liveries (except for 91 125) looks great, with GNER being a top spot for me, and that EuroPhoenix livery looks soooooo gooood
The IC225 should have become the gold standard, simply swapping out locos to get to different areas. The mk4s are the best rolling stock in the country, and I don't know why we didn't get them everywhere and instead decided to get a bunch of different things from poundland instead, even today. Well, bar the Pendolino, but I might be biased about that.
My absolute favourite train, love all the subtle sounds as well as the comfort. The sounds of the bogies at 125mph if you stand in the vestibule are magic. Heard rumours that they will be coming back to Newcastle services so fingers crossed I can get a direct train to my home town of Darlington again. Can't believe Ive missed this video for 3 weeks.
The class 91 was the only true 125 mph train I’ve been on. From what I remember, it was very smooth ride and very quiet. It was so much better than using those adalente class 180s that seem as though they are from the reduced section in an asda
Note: Ads may appear on this video but I don't have monetization enabled on my channel, so just turn adblock on. Blame the Top Gear joke I added lol. Well, there you go. Another train I actually like. Thanks 317Dan and JVids24 for kindly donating those extra 91 clips to me! Now if you excuse me, I'm off on holiday to The Netherlands again! Have to take a Flixbus because British Airways like money too much. And as always, a Yorkshire Pudding, a flatcap and a copy of the Racing Post will be awarded to the indivdual who guesses the recording locations. 317Dan is barred this time as it would be cheating :D
I do like the Class 91's. I personally like the East Coast Grey livery because that was my childhood. Although that LNER Swallow livery looks bloody marvalous.
one time i was at kings cross doing train spotting and there was a 91 on the platform and the driver saw us and let me go and sit in the cab it was awesome
You know, I’m extremely sad that grand central sent their MK4 service to the shadow realm. I was actually looking quite forward to it. Still though, the 91 refurbishment programme they’re undergoing makes me hopeful that they will at least last a few more years.
Partly it’s supposed to look like the Azuma livery, but the swoop at the front doesn’t fit well on the class 91. Making it look like the Intercity livery is nice
It's great also that it's proper paint instead of vinyl, the mk4s and locos have been looking tatty recently with the vinyl peeling off and water getting in between the gaps.
the fact that these were mostly replaced with japanese tincans featuring loose panels and non-existant suspension shows how bad train travel in the UK has gotten
Mark 4 coaches were not designed to roll behind a noisyclass 67 diesel locomotive that onboard the first coach just after it souds like onboard a class 220/221 Voyager unit such is the low bass vabration noise of the diesel engine.
YESSSSSSSS Another railway review I see a common theme with trains with poor acceeration 455: 4/16 axles powered, only on 1 motorcoach 319: 4/16 axles powered, only on 1 motorcoach 90/91: Only 1 locomotive It seems like BREL was trying to skimp on motors I wonder how the 455 and 319 would fare if Porterbrook was sensible and replaced the non-driving trailer with another motorcoach so that 8/16 axles are powered And I wonder what the IC225 would be like with 2 locomotives...
Upon learning more, the reason it probably doesn't have 2 locos is because catenary on the line too close together can cause oscillations, which is dangerous
On of fav ik trains kind of like the 201 were it's the only thing powering the consit but need a extra car for cargo Or for the 201 a generator van so the 201 dose not overheat and set on fire
I agree. Also in case I didn’t mention it to you, 91131 is planned to be preserved at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway. I volunteer there so that’s how I found out.
@@threeninetyexpress9243 also 91110 has nominated to be preserved at NRM in 2018, but the train is in service tho, since the loco has good condition and has recently updated its looks (an updated look of the battle of britain memorial livery)
why would you need to resignal the stations? just attach a second loco to the backside of the train, then detach the from loc and you are turned around.
Because as point 2 mentions, you would need twice as many locos to run the same service. To add, decoupling procedures can incure delays. Not needed with our jolly DVT.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel not really, because the detached front loc can then serve as the "second loc" on the next train. So you only need two extra locomotives (one for each terminus station), and you are going to want more spares anyway, just in case one breaks down.
@@daanwolters3751 In it's heyday, the 91s had more than two terminus stations. Kings Cross, Newark Northgate, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow were the main ones, so you'd need more than just 2 extra locos. Also don't forget about stations served only in the rush hour like Shipley, Stirling and Bradford. Do you not see the logistical issues that would incur having to have a 91 loco doing sod all waiting for the train to arrive when you can just save money by sticking a DVT in? Friendly reminder that even though Germany uses loco hauled trains that require another loco to help turn around and shunt at the terminus, alot of their IC services nowadays use DVT equivelent coaches...
I love the buzz sound those mk4 coaches make and when it passes a neutral section and goes "veurrrrrrrrrrphvrammmmhmmmmm"

The problem with providing a gold standard in the UK is having to put the effort in to reach it in the future. For the railway no less :(
