    GREAT VIDEO JUST 1 MINOR POINT A VPN IS NOT THE SAME AS OPEN PORTS.
    THERE ARE 3 WAYS TO ACCESS ILO FROM WAN - OPEN PORTS FORWARDED, GIVING IT A PUBLIC IP OR AS YOU SAID SETTING UP A VPN.
    WITH THE VPN BEING THE RECOMMENDED MOST SECURE METHOD.
    ILO ON LAN DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE AS YOU CAN JUST PUSH THE POWER BUTTON. THE ONLY REASON FOR ILO IS BECAUSE SOMETIMES A SERVER BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE WITHIN IT'S OS AND MUST BE PHYSICALLY REBOOTED. IF YOUR I.T. DEPARTMENT/COMPANY ARE NOT ONSITE THEN THEY NEED TO BE ABLE TO REMOTELY REBOOT THE SERVER AND GAIN LOW LEVEL ACCESS TO THE HARDWARE. SO ALTHOUGH LESS IT DOES PING MONITORING INFORMATION ON THE STATUS OF THE HARDWARE, WHEN YOU DIAL ONTO THE ILO IT'S ALMOST ALWAYS TO DO A REMOTE PHYSICAL REBOOT OF A FROZEN SERVER.
    BUT GREAT VIDEO AS I SAY THIS IS ONLY A MINOR POINT AND I FOUND THE VIDEO BOTH INFORMATIVE AND USEFUL

      Good to know, I have an hp dl580 g5, setting up in my lab, for plex server and or possible minecraft server for local friends. I use (hate to admit it, since I think google went evil) but use chrome A LOT!! I will test in firefox and post back here if it also works in firefox browser.

    I found your video, watched and it was VERY informative and helpful. I got an older hp proliant dl580 g5, from where I worked (it was a decommissioned unit from one of our clients). It works fine, did come with the built in smart array p400 and the secondary add in pci card for 2 HP smart array p400's. has both drive bays and 15 drives, 72gb/15krpm, of which 5 had failed, the array failed but can be rebuilt to what I choose. it only has 1 proc and 8gb mem atm, and both batteries for the cache (BBWC) are bad. using this as a lab server for learning a few things and to possibly build a minecraft server for some of my friends and I, also maybe a plex server. you video was helpful in understanding the ILO part.

    hello Sir, Please help me to configure ilo on hp ml 370g5 server ! This is my question for you , before accessing ilo 2, do I need to configure the port on the switch to which I will connect when accessing ilo via the browser. ???

    • @DaddyElfMan
      @DaddyElfMan 20 днів тому +1

      if you have a switch that you can manage, (log into, like a cisco switch). If a standard home wifi router with the 5 nic ports on back, then all you need to do is just plug in cable from server to there. if it is a 'managed' switch, and switch is defaulted to factory mode, and you have not logged into switch to 'lock' down ports in it or other configurations to the switch, then NO, you would not need to config port, IF you DID lock down ports on switch, then YES you will need to config port on switch. hope this helps.

      you would need a cross over cable for that.

    Do we need to just connect the client by lan cable or configure it's DNS and ip details as well?

    • @DaddyElfMan
      @DaddyElfMan 20 днів тому

      configure dns and ip, for the ILO, this lets ILO in server know what your IP scheme is for your (home/soho) lan. as Tyler stated in video above, more than likely you have a DHCP server or device (home wifi router or ISP wifi router) that is already setup to hand out IP's to devices you connect to your lan, such as your server, (with the ILO port in it). so when you get into the servers ILO config, make sure to TURN OFF DHCP in the ILO, otherwise you will have network ip conflicts/issues.

    Hello, i was wondering why you turned dhcp off and where you got that ip address? I'm pretty new to this, but I thought dhcp assigned the ip addresses. Did you just pick an address/subnet mask that was not being used by any device? Thanks

    • @Diversifried
      @Diversifried 3 роки тому +1

      You don't want more than 1 device on your network managing DHCP. It's most common to let router handle dhcp and rest of devices turned off. Otherwise it causes networking issues at some point. As far as network IP addy's. When you set up your WAN/LAN {router/modem config} you have the option to set a range of IP addresses you want available to that LAN. If you add another router/switch to that router, you can set up another network but use a different number in the 3rd set. example : First router uses 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255. You'd set the next lvl router/switch to look like 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.255. This allows all the networks to talk to each other with minimal congestion. Even with multiple networks linked...You still only want 1 DHCP server. The subnet stuff is generally auto-filled but the one he mentions is the universal default.

    • @MeLoco317
      @MeLoco317 3 роки тому +1

      @@Diversifried This is wrong. DHCP turned on simply means ilo will pull an IP from the DHCP Server (usually a router) instead of manually setting up the IP like he did in the video.

    • @mavenexinc.9201
      @mavenexinc.9201 Рік тому

      @@MeLoco317 Exactly what i did to my DL380 Gen 8 server. i let it initialize to run on DHCP, then after it has picked an IP and then set that particular IP to be static for ILO.
