Create a Procreate Stamp Brush with Your Signature

- If you are a Procreate artist, you can make your own personal signature stamp to sign your pieces instead of having to do it by hand each time.
1. Make a square canvas of 2048x2048 pixels.
2. Use a lettering brush to sign in black OR write your name with a font. The font I've used is called Modena Script by Jen Wagner and can be purchased here: jenwagner.co/products/modena-...
3. Gear icon - Add - Copy Canvas.
4. Duplicate any stamp brush.
5. Tap the duplicate brush to bring up the brush settings, and go to Shape - Shape Source - Edit.
7. Import - Paste.
8. If the background is white, tap with two fingers to invert (white on black).
And you're done!

Great tutorial! Questions: how do you get to the brush studio? I'm lost when I get to that point.
Thank you! It should be as simple as tapping the brush once to select it, then tapping it again. This should open up the brush studio so that you can make changes to the settings, add your own image to the shape source, etc.
Whenever I import my photo, the brush stroke on the drawing pad changes into one of the abstract brushes when I don’t want it too. It’s really frustrating so can somebody please help me?
Thank you for the tutorial! It was very clear to follow, but somehow when I use the signature stamp it’s too small. Can we do this same technique on a larger scale so it can be used on larger documents? Or did I do something wrong? 😅
Your image that you're using as your stamp should be 2048 x 2048 pixels and your signature should fill the whole canvas edge to edge, because this is the max size that is allowed as a procreate brush source. So if you were using a smaller canvas or not making your signature large on that canvas, that could be why. In the brush settings, you can also go to "properties" and make sure that maximum size is set to "max."
@@AlainaJensen Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! I double checked and everything is set correctly. I just tested it on a smaller document and it works perfectly. I think the documents I was trying to use it on are too big and Procreate’s maximum size is too small for this purpose. I will definitely be able to add it to some of my smaller sized digital paintings. Thank you again for such great tutorials!

Are you sure that you copied the canvas in the previous steps? If the copy didn’t work for some reason, paste will be greyed out (because there is nothing to paste).
Hi again, yes so I definitely copied but when I select import it takes me to my files instead of allowing me to paste 😩

@@Alysonamelia93 I just checked on my son's older iPad and I think you may be right! But what you can do instead after signing your name, then save it as an image by gong to the gear icon, share, jpeg, save image. Then on your brush, you can import the image with the import button, then import photo and the newly saved image should be on your camera roll.

i keep getting this weird light gray outline all across the stamp. the hole canvis outline is there enyway to fix this?
This might happen if there is something in the original image that is not completely black or completely white - like a really faint border from importing an image on top of something else - it might be hard to tell but I would recommend inspecting the image (before making it a stamp) to see if you can detect and eliminate anything there that might be causing it.
I am trying to double tap it to invert it, but it isn’t doing anything. It just stays white with the black writing. Update: never mind! I got it :D

I'm glad it worked out other than that part! Did you try tapping the image with two fingers while editing the "shape" tap in the brush settings?

Hey Alaina, i have tried to make a stamp brush from an imported png picture, but when it imports it is distorted or looks squashed....can you give me any advise as to why this happens...? Thank You Marcus
Hi Marcus! This usually happens because the image is not a perfect square, so then it gets distorted into a square on import. Try making a canvas that is 2048x2048 pixels, adding your png image to the centre of that canvas then saving it, and then import that new image to your stamp brush.
Mine has a huge box around it though? How do I get rid of the box around my signature?
You have to make sure that your background is pure white (hex code ffffff) and the writing is pure black (000000). Off white etc leaves a box. Then when you paste the shape in - make sure it’s white writing on a black background. If not, tap it with two fingers to invert it.

It worked but my stamp is tiny, even when I max out the size. Don’t know what went happened.😔

I dont have lettering brush. Is it cost and need to be purchased?
The brush I use in the video is from my lettering set for sale in my shop for $12 ( alainajensen.gumroad.com ) however there are also free lettering brushes that come as default with Procreate in the Calligraphy and Inking folders. I also have some free lettering brushes if you sign up for my newsletter, with the link in the description.
Hi, I just created a signature stamp. Thank you. But i am having a little problem...the color of my stamp is gray even when the color icon shows black. I would like for it to be black and i cant figure out how to change it. Thanks.
I think that you may have used an off black to create the stamp rather than pure black. The shape source needs to be pure white background and pure black signature, because anything in between will be semitransparent as a stamp, in this case coming out looking gray. Try creating the signature again, and make sure that your color selected shows #000000 on the value tab.

@@AlainaJensen I have a similar problem - I wanted my stamp to have two colors - is it not possible? I've seen stamps with different colors, does it have to be black? Also my stamp shows with a background is there a way to avoid it and only paste the stamp itself?
@@tayoridraws You can use the secondary color function under Color Dynamics to make a two color brush, however I'm not really sure how to do this with a stamp because it depends on things like pressure etc to change the color - it might be possible using a dual brush but that gets fairly complicated and beyond the scope of this tutorial. The stamp source for this tutorial should be only pure black and pure white - if your background is showing it's because the background from the shape source is not pure white (#ffffff).

My stamp comes out sideways then I have to edit it and turn it the right way. What did I do wrong?
In the brush settings check shape and make sure it's facing upward in the shape source that you can see there - otherwise "edit shape" and then rotate it with two fingers. If that is all fine and it's still coming out wrong, go to "properties" in the brush settings and make sure that "orient to screen" is turned off.
It didn’t work for me. Nothing happens when I import.

Hi there! It really depends on which brushes you have and what you want your signature to look like. Any of the brushes from my lettering set or my free sampler set would work, or you could use the moonlike brush that comes free with Procreate.
Is your brushes set safe
When I imported my stamp to the template, it keeps popping up upside down. Is there a way to fix this?

Hello Alaina: I just purchased the Modena font however I can’t get it to open in Procreate because it’s a PHOTOSHOP file. I sent a “help” ticket to the creator and hope to hear back from her company soon. If you have any ideas in the meantime, I’d love to read them. I don’t have Photoshop. I want to use it in the text block in Procreate. Yikes.
I have this font installed in Procreate on my iPad, so it's absolutely possible, but it will come as a font file that needs to be installed in Procreate separately. Here is their help page on how to do it: procreate.com/handbook/procreate/text/text-fonts/
Oh, Alaina, you wouldn’t believe the work Jen and I did last night and this morning. The problem was that the PREVIEW of the font wasn’t showing up in Procreate. It was there but the title and preview weren’t. But I now have a 20% coupon for signing up for her newsletter and maybe I’ll get another font later. I’ll repeat my thanks for your help, your videos, the brushes you offer, everything. Procreate is now my FRIEND. For the signature stamp, I watched a couple of YT videos and got what I wanted. I wanted some of my flourishes available to use for a “chop” instead of my signature. But I sure used your template. You are a talented artist and a very helpful lady.
