In the south, that was kind of a typical ‘getting to know what your life is like’ question. People got married young and honestly were expected to get married and have children before a career sometimes. When I was 20-22, my mother, both grandmothers, and several aunts were giving me a hard time and a lot of pressure about how I shouldn’t be worried about school, I should be finding a husband and having kids by now.

When I was 17 and started seeing my partner (who I will marry one day), it was still not yet legal for gays to marry. It became legal, both where I live and in America, when we were barely adults. It was in the 10 years my SO and I have been together that we got the right to marry. That’s so wild to me.
