I am 65 now, been an exerciser all my life, my main sport is cycling. I used to do up to 300 miles training and completing in time trials. I still cycle and race but obviously not as fast. I get out on the bike every other day for an hour or so, or on Zwift in bad weather indoors, where i increase the intensity of my exercise, to maintain my aerobic threshold heart rate for a full hour at around 170 bpm and push it further now and again. I also don't smoke, hardly ever drink alcohol and have maintained a healthy weight all my life. The result is that i am extremely fit, never out of breath, have no comorbidities or prescription drug taking. On a recent UK bio bank study ultrasound carotid artery scan, it showed a completely empty pipe with no arthoschlerosis whatsoever. Exercise, if it were a pill, would be the most magic pill ever invented, with no side effects and all positive outcomes. Everybody dies in the end but it is not about when you die really, although exercise does extend life, it is about your quality of life and health while you are here.
