I get emotional about Disney too. I feel so ridiculous. But I cried at the old Fantasmic, I cried at a few of the Fireworks shows. I feel so dumb, BUT, it's special to me. Disneyland is just really special to me.
Guest Relations at Disney are amazing. My friend left a bag and literally within 5 seconds Lost and Found was taking the bag to Guest Relations. We had to wait at Guest Relations for the bag to come. They were so sweet and nice.
Jobs I would not want at a theme park: 1. Security -- you're called in whenever someone is out of control. 2. Characters in full body costumes -- on a hot day, I would just pass out.
I'd love to work in the floral department at Disney. Arranging flowers and gift baskets would be fun. I'd also like to do set decorating for rides and maybe be a monorail pilot. Worse jobs? Anything without A/C! lol
Thank you from damp Plymouth in the UK. Fab video. As always, you cheer me up! Probably helps that I booked to visit WDW about 5 hours ago! C'mon 2018! Here we come!
I do bussing at quick service restaurants, it’s not too bad! I mean I’m not the one in the kitchen all the time but I do deal with messes after. It’s pretty chill tbh
I'd love to work the front gate of the park at opening. Thing is, I'm not much of a people person and I don't care for getting up early... but to just be there and welcome the people with all the potential of a magical day in front of them feels special to me.
My dad loves to tell corny jokes and I cringed a lot as a kid. Now I get to tell dad jokes and watch my son cringe. What's also fun is to make references to pop culture that my son won't understand, but my wife will. Oh and don't feel bad for getting emotional at Disney. I often get that way when I think about Walt and his dreams that came true.
I loved year of a million dreams!! I got a lanyard in the park when they were doing it and the fast pass thing (which I didn't use because I wanted to keep it!!). I also sent a million post cards in since you could also win the prizes that way and got ears and pins from that :) I didn't win the night at the castle which I really wanted though :)
I loved being a cave guide at SDC. Best job ever. We would get to the Mystic pool room and I'd tell dad jokes until everybody caught up. It's kind of the definition of a captive audience.
I would say things like "remember folks they pay me to tell these jokes" or "they laughed at me when I said I was going to be a comedian but they're not laughing anymore"
I was 3 years old during I year of a million dreams and my family has the special ears and I remember the dream squad gave us a bunch of fastpass and it was great and we also became family of the day at Epcot and got to ride the test track car and see the behind the scenes of mission space
Have you ever thought about going to Canada's Wonderland? I grew up living really close to it and always call the now unbranded Ceder Fair Rides buy their Paramnount Pictures name (i.e. Top Gun is now "Flight Deck". ) and my best friend who isn't from the area loves telling everyone what the rides used to be called "back in the day" when I was a kid!
Haha I just thought you would be a Jungle Cruise cast member just as you said it! I went on it for the first time, and I loved the jokes! I loved the hokey pokey joke the cast member did on the ride! Of course I was targeted since it was my first time, and my fiancé and I were sitting close to the steering wheel and cast member, but it was all in good fun. My fiancé said the jokes haven't changed since he had last ridden a long while back. I don't mind the corny jokes!
You would be great on Jungle Cruise. I know what you mean about food services. Long before the internet I wanted to work at Disney when I was college age. In my area, we never heard about the college program. My grandparents, who lived in Orlando long before Disney came to town, said that the only jobs available for people my age was food services, needless to say I never applied. I can't imagine working in Guest Services during the hurricane. Online I have seen people complaining about losing their FastPasses for the day of the hurricane as if they are entitled to them. I was like, "Guys, the person you are talking to probably doesn't even have power at their house, there was just a hurricane..."
In just one month, I will be starting Quick Service Food & Beverage in the College Program. I'm excited- I love making food. Had I not pursued a career in art, I would have opted to go into culinary. I hope I will be a part of food preparations, or one of those lucky cast members that gives the celebration cupcakes out to people wearing the "I'm Celebrating" pins. If I wasn't in QSFB, I would hope to work in attractions as a Jungle Cruise skipper, a cast member supervising at Fantasmic!, or as a fur performer. As a kid, I wanted to work on the Great Movie Ride (RIP) and as an artist in the park- especially the one teaching the drawing classes at the old animation studio (RIP).
I have a buddy that works maintenance at Disney. He always tells me that it is a fun job. He is trying to get me to apprentice there too, but as a Floridian, I'm not a fan of living near or around Orlando
Yeah. California’s Great America does an opening ceremony for the day where they let everyone in up till the carousel, then play the national anthem, and do a rope drop. Wish it was a bit more tho. Their Halloween Haunt ceremony is pretty awesome, they have a character come out, talk about all the mazes and scarezones, then release everyone with 8 to 12 jets of fire.
As a 70+ guy who has been obsessed with trains since I was 5, I would naturally like to be the engineer on the train. The conductor would be a fun job, too, since I like interacting with the guests. Unlike you, I would enjoy maintenance. I have always been mechanically inclined and a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. I'm a decent carpenter, I know which end of a wrench to grab, I can do basic plumbing, and electrical work. My first park job was being in charge of a Mad Mouse in '65. I was hired to help with the final stages of installation on a ride that was bought used from the bankrupt Freedomland in NY. Two trailer loads of parts and almost no documentation. After it was set up, my job was lead operator. I laughed out loud over your cutting the saw horse story. The first time I used a (borrowed) circular saw, the very first thing I did was to saw the power cord in half! I wound up buying the lender a new saw, replacing the cord on his and keeping it.
its been a while but I think Six Flags MM does a parade type thing for opening, I only got to see it once, on a day off, but usually by opening I had whatever ride I was working that day open and ready, some days we were a few mins late but usually the ride was ready by opening
Back in college I had the opportunity to apply for the Disney college program. I kind of regretted not doing it. If I would of applied and got in I would have wanted photo pass or character attendant.
I would love to be a face charakter, especially Meg or Yasmin although her wig looks really heavy😂 sadly the next disneyland is in the neighbour country and I dont speak french🙈 love your videos💕
You must have missed my note on my facebook page. I was actually filming exactly that Saturday and got overwhelmed by the crowds. Hoping to finish filming it tomorrow and get it out next week if all goes well. :-)
I always enjoy the opening ceremony at Silver Dollar City I'm usually the one carrying the flag when I go except for one time I went I had a broke ankle so I was on a scooter at the end of the line but I still managed to get up off the scooter with a broke ankle and still managed to stand at attention and salute the flag
Ok I'm sorry I ask a lot questions but I'm curious and I am planning on working there . ok so if we are not a character are we allowed to hug people? Like if they are having a bad day or something?
Greatly depends on who you are, what you are doing, who the guest is, what they are doing, cultural considerations, etc.... Short answer- sometimes. but it's not expected. :-)
Look for some of my special moments with characters. I've got several videos on that subject now. yes, you would occasionally see a character cry, though it was rare. they were usually exceptionally good about not doing it where guests would see. But it did happen sometimes, especially with Make a Wish kids.
I work in Epcot right now and love it so much. I`m in Germany in F&B. Because of my visum I can`t do anything else, but let`s pretend I could than I really would love to do Shows, sing, dance. maybe be friends with Charakters, guess that would be perfect role for me. But I am in the Cast Choir for Candlelight :D so I guess that is an amazing start
I can`t wait to experience it. Every season I experience right now is my first time and I love it so much to be able to do that. So this is something I really can`t wait to experience
Why are the parade attendants so pushy at magic kingdom? I kept stopping to tie my shoe when nobody was around and they said keep moving. I don't want to trip myself!!😂
Usually the pushiness is to keep the movement of people 'fluid' to prevent bottlenecks and stampedes from happening. One person loitering a walkway for various reasons can cause hundreds if not thousands of people to bunch up in one area which can lead to the above mentioned events. The parade attendants are not only following the orders of their managers but also the fire marshal.
I'm working on a book about the history of American amusement and theme parks, and I was wondering if I could chat with you at some point about your experiences? Mostly about what it's like to work for them as someone who *isn't* a character, as that's kind of a gap in my knowledge. I've also found it hard to get information about the Busch Gardens parks. Is there a place where we could exchange email addresses that's more private? Thanks!
I usually never complain to guest relations, I’m a vocal person. So if a employee did something wrong, I usually tell them nicely that their behavior was inappropriate. I would tell the employee that I know how the job can be stressful, but remember its not about them. They are there to make families happy. Well that all changed 2 years ago when I got a service dog. I only had 3 incidents where I had to speak to guest relations. One was where the entrance security asked me my name and phone number along with the 2 questions employees are allowed to ask is this a service dog, and what tasks does the dog do that helps with your disability. The employee was very kind, and I told him nicely he wasnt allowed to ask for my personal information (name and #). He said thats how he was trained. I had him call his supervisor. I explained to them That having their employees ask any questions other the 2 they were allowed ( is it a SD and what tasks), was against the law and could get them sued. I said thankfully they got me. I educate rather than sue. Time 2- I was entering the park and security would not let me in unless I showed certification for Ellie my SD. I explained there is none ( he argued and said his combat buddy has a certified SD so he knows there is non. I replied, sir, your buddy has a program trained SD that is certified through the program. All that says is they trained this dog and he is qualified by them, NOT the ADA. According to the ADA there is no certification and it is against the law to ask for one and he could face up to $10,000 in fines and possibly up to 1 year in jail. Just asking that question and insisting he can ask that. Well guest relations was called (Per my request) and while we were talking, guest relations looked up the ADA law and aplologized to me. The entire interaction was both of us being kind and respectful even laughing while we waited for guest relations. Since then, they trained their employees better. My last one was this year.. by far the worst we were leaving the park and the exit gate employee tried talking and petting Ellie. I asked her kindly not to. She rudely said “Icant say hello” i said I’m sorry but no. Well ellie had booties on due to the hot pavement. She looks at them ad says, “high heeled shoes on a dog, yeah thats smart”. I was sooooo angry. I immediately a supervisor. Then the next day, i spoke to management. Sorry this was long. But yes, guest relations have a very hard job...
Surprised that their employees didn't know better- especially that last one not realizing that it's NOT ok to pet and call out to a dog while it's working.
that's hard for me to say for sure. There's a lot dependent on how much you want to live in florida, what the rate of pay for the drivers is, what the cost of living in Florida is compared to NJ and how that would change your lifestyle, whether or not there are openings, what your family feels... I'm sure Florida is cheaper to live in compared to most of New Jersey, but it's also likely that the bus drivers there make less money than you are now. (don't know for sure) If you can, you might want to try to take a visit down to florida just to check it out. You don't have to pay anything to visit Disney Springs, visit the resorts, or ride the busses around. Or to stop at casting and ask for an interview. I just did a search for you on their job site and they are hiring- with a $500 bonus even. you can see the details at jobs.disneycareers.com/search-jobs?k=bus&alp=6252001-4155751-4167060-4167147&alt=4
We would get very basic first aid- very basic. At Silver Dollar City we were also certified in CPR and AED use. Otherwise the general rule was call first aid and let the professionals handle it.
I would like to be custodian, you get to interact with the guest all day. Some off the cleaning wold suck, but we all have cleaned up something nasty in your lives. But, some off my fav. cm's at Disneyland are the people in white, keeping the parks clean. true WD work.
I worked for Staples selling computers and it was a challenging job. Dealing with bitchy man people is not easy. I read a book recently on the Custodial side of things and thought that might be an interesting job at Disney. You get to see all the behind the scenes stuff and some dealing with public but not every minute.
Did you ever have to deal with guests faking illnesses, disabilities, and/or service dogs? I've never heard anyone who's worked at a theme park even mention something like that, and it's made me curious. Partially because of some bad experiences I've had haha
I havent had the chance to go to Disney with my Service dog but I can tell you people fake them big time. I've had (at a hotel) a service dog from a program come up to play with my service dog. and when I was out to eat once had a "Service dog" come under our table (owners was not correcting it) and growl at mine.
RebeccaSouthCarolina Boy do I know it, one actually kinda scared my SD around Christmas last year. Little thing was just barking at her like crazy and the lady was completely ignoring it. And I was illegally thrown out of a shop (and the guy knew it was illegal) because of a previous fake SD experience. But was the one at the hotel with someone from the program? If so, it may have been in training.
RayRay Risin the people didn't correct it. Plus the dog was approx 5 they said it was their daughters (she was maybe 17 to 18 ) and the whole family was taking turns walking it. They fed it from tables at the hotel. Just bad examples of a program dog all around. I've been tossed out stores too. They had never seen a SD before. I hate the happy dogs messing with ours. Well I'm off to the store... Wish me luck
While we would see it sometimes, our job descriptions were pretty strict that even if we suspected it was outside of our jobs to discern or deal with might be fake vs. real. We were supposed to deal with every single one as if they were legitimate and not question. Ever. Do I know if there were fakes? Sure there were. But there were also a lot of real ones that may not be able to be seen or recognized on the surface. Those were kinds of issues that should have been dealt with at the entry gates or at guest relations when they were getting their "special assistance" passes, not by ride operators or photographers in the park. And since we didn't have anything to do with figuring out if it was real or not, it was just easier to not notice signs of one way or the other and treat everyone the same, regardless.
I have a question. Do you still work at theme parks but if you don't what is your job now? I don't care if someone answers I just wanted to get that out
Closest one is an outlet almost an hour away. And I actually did work at a Disney Store many years ago, before we moved to Florida. it's basically like any other retail job, so not something I'd really be interested in at this point.
can you do a video about you working with winnie the pooh characters please I don't work at disney butthe jobs at disney I would like to do would be being a clown in cirque du soleil la nouba photographer chef working with the characters
Almost all of those videos are fakes. It's extremely, exceedingly rare for someone to get injured on a ride, let alone killed. With a couple of minor exceptions while I was working on the train (I tell those stories in some of my videos), I've never even seen someone hurt (though I have seen people try to get themselves injured doing stupid things they shouldn't)
I get emotional about Disney too. I feel so ridiculous. But I cried at the old Fantasmic, I cried at a few of the Fireworks shows. I feel so dumb, BUT, it's special to me. Disneyland is just really special to me.
Yes Disney does have that magic that makes you emotional.
I cry everytime I walk under the tracks to experience a new day at Disneyland.
Me too!!!!!
Heidi Brown I would cry at the closing fireworks and the parades. I’m in good company.😊
I had my traditions today! Im a Skipper! Dream job! Super excited! All glory to Jesus! *Psalm 63:1*
I cracked up when you said you sawed the sawhorse in laugh. Sounds like me 😆
Glad I'm not the only one, had to pause to video b/c I laughed so hard I could barley see and was missing everything being said!
Finally a shout out for parking lot crews! I'm a tram driver at SDC. I personally love it. Not as bad as you might think ;)
Guest Relations at Disney are amazing. My friend left a bag and literally within 5 seconds Lost and Found was taking the bag to Guest Relations. We had to wait at Guest Relations for the bag to come. They were so sweet and nice.
Cut the sawhorse in half ? Lol that's a great story ~ and I agree customer relations is a nightmare
Jobs I would not want at a theme park: 1. Security -- you're called in whenever someone is out of control. 2. Characters in full body costumes -- on a hot day, I would just pass out.
Sir Willow you are a sweetie!! Enjoy your videos so much!!!
I have always wanted to be a photopass photographer. My favorite memories at the park are helping someone take a photo
These videos never get old . Love it!
I'd love to work in the floral department at Disney. Arranging flowers and gift baskets would be fun. I'd also like to do set decorating for rides and maybe be a monorail pilot. Worse jobs? Anything without A/C! lol
I love the silly jokes too. I think I would be good at guest relations, I've done similar tasks just being a cashier.
always fun to watch your videos. thanks.
I'm actually trying to get into Disney as a performer
I love your channel! I have watched every episode. I have watched some more than once. And thanks for addressing my question that I asked on facebook.
Doing trams and traffics would be HIGH on my list o-o
Getting walked to Tower of Terror at DCA was fun for rope drop .
Great video sirwillow! Always love these
I have my traditions this Tuesday 😏 I work Security, can't wait.
Haven't started yet but sounds interesting.
Only rope drop I experienced was at CA where we were walked to TOT
I love transportation so I would love to be either a parking lot tram or a Disney property bus driver or one of the train drivers.
I got a lanyard from the Dream Squad. Pretty big deal to a high school kid who couldn't afford any pins. I still have it somewhere.
Have you ever thought about going to Canada's Wonderland? I would love to be a Disney Pyrotechnician that would be my ultimate job, I also think being a Dapper Dan would be awesome as well!!!
You would be great driving the things up and down mainstreet, the fire engine or the horse wagon etc.
lol I don't know. The temptation to run over those people who didn't move or stepped in front of me might be hard to resist. :-P
I have a buddy that works maintenance at Disney. He always tells me that it is a fun job. He is trying to get me to apprentice there too, but as a Floridian, I'm not a fan of living near or around Orlando

I ❤️ Disney everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing is that I want to work guest relations, specifically I want to be a plaid at Disneyland and that is under the guest relations department.
good video
Since I was a travel agent..if I could convince my husband to move to Orlando..I would love to work in reservations or convention planning.
yay a new video! : )
I would love to be a face charakter, especially Meg or Yasmin although her wig looks really heavy😂 sadly the next disneyland is in the neighbour country and I dont speak french🙈 love your videos💕
Your videos are entertaining :)
I'm sorry I keep putting this in.... Can you do a video on the food at SDC?
You must have missed my note on my facebook page. I was actually filming exactly that Saturday and got overwhelmed by the crowds. Hoping to finish filming it tomorrow and get it out next week if all goes well. :-)
Your next Theme Park Job Should be one of the Cowboys at Tweetsie Railroad!
If I lived anywhere near it... :-)
(it's only a 13 hour drive from me!)
If you haven't subscribed to SirWillow yet then " You're being an idiot Stop it!" haha. For real though, sub to this man!
I would hate to do the guest relations cause I have a horrible patience for dealing with terrible people and probably get fired
I remember having to disappoint people while waiting to meet Mary and Bert. I had to tell people I was the end of the line
hes in cali and you were in florida, but was there anyone in florida like maynard that you worked with?
I want to be a Walt Disney imagineer
Ok I'm sorry I ask a lot questions but I'm curious and I am planning on working there . ok so if we are not a character are we allowed to hug people? Like if they are having a bad day or something?

Very cool that you're in the cast choir. Candlelight is one of my favorite parts of Christmas there.
I can`t wait to experience it. Every season I experience right now is my first time and I love it so much to be able to do that. So this is something I really can`t wait to experience
Wait, you like to talk?
As for getting choked up, Bolt thinking he was replaced and Simba being blamed for Mufasa's death always get to me.
I love working on my dads old cars so I'm the opposite from you on the tools.
I've had my picture taken with Jafar
Why are the parade attendants so pushy at magic kingdom? I kept stopping to tie my shoe when nobody was around and they said keep moving. I don't want to trip myself!!😂

Funny you would not like to work in Guest relations Sir Willow because I think you would be awesome at it!
AAAAAH YES!! Dis Unplugged is the other theme park channel I watch haha!!
What about being a Disney character? Like or hate to do?
funny thing is I've never actually considered it since I'm not built like one. It's like a brick wall if I try to think about me being one. :-)
I mean the ones in the costumes. I am sure you could at least fit into Pooh's. ;-)
I would just not feel right playing with Pooh at work. :-P (sorry, bad joke)
LOL! *groan* LOL!
I'm a school bus driver in NJ. Thinking about moving to Orlando to drive a Disney bus. Do you think it's a good idea?
that's hard for me to say for sure.
I just did a search for you on their job site and they are hiring- with a $500 bonus even. you can see the details at jobs.disneycareers.com/search-jobs?k=bus&alp=6252001-4155751-4167060-4167147&alt=4
looks like starting pay for a bus driver at Disney is $12.65/ hour, or around $500/ week for full time work.
SirWillow that was so nice of you to check on the bus jobs for that person! BTW, I can so see you being great on the Jungle Ride!
How much first aid training did you need? Any on signs of heat stroke??
We would get very basic first aid- very basic. At Silver Dollar City we were also certified in CPR and AED use. Otherwise the general rule was call first aid and let the professionals handle it.
Thanks. I'd always wondered what type stuff parks taught.
Signs of heat stroke etc. So its good to know that you at least get basics.
I would hate grounds or like midway attendant
And since we didn't have anything to do with figuring out if it was real or not, it was just easier to not notice signs of one way or the other and treat everyone the same, regardless.
unless you like heatstroke never be a character. i was a friend of minnie at disneyland in the late 70- early 80's
I would want to be anywhere in entertainment in Disney
I have a question. Do you still work at theme parks but if you don't what is your job now? I don't care if someone answers I just wanted to get that out
No I don't. The answers to that and many common questions is in the FAQ on my Facebook page (link is in the description)
You'd be shooting the first family? Call the FBI, lol!
LOL I'd make similar jokes about shooting people- with my camera. :-P
Since you don't live by any of the parks now, would you ever want to work at the Disney Store?
Closest one is an outlet almost an hour away. And I actually did work at a Disney Store many years ago, before we moved to Florida. it's basically like any other retail job, so not something I'd really be interested in at this point.
Do you still work at a park now?
Not currently. check out the FAQ on my Facebook page (linked in the video description) for that and other common questions. :-)
can you do a video about you working with winnie the pooh characters please I don't work at disney butthe jobs at disney I would like to do would be
being a clown in cirque du soleil la nouba
photographer
chef
working with the characters
I've got several videos where I talk about working with the characters and Pooh comes up in those several times. Be sure to check them out
I'm just hoping to get to see La Nouba before they end in December. Such a beautiful show, what I've seen of it.
Have you ever heard of kingdom hearts
they have a lot of videos of people dying on rides. have you ever seen someone killed because of a ride?
Almost all of those videos are fakes. It's extremely, exceedingly rare for someone to get injured on a ride, let alone killed. With a couple of minor exceptions while I was working on the train (I tell those stories in some of my videos), I've never even seen someone hurt (though I have seen people try to get themselves injured doing stupid things they shouldn't)
Also, another job you wouldn’t want to do, is janitorial.
I actually knew a lot of people who really enjoyed janitorial, believe it or not
Really? I imagine janitorial, especially in the parks, being one of those jobs that you would only do if you had to.
Are you a fallout fan
Fallout 4. I haven't played the others, though my daughter has played several of them.
Are people in wheelchairs 🦼 able to do cave tours? Is the cave wheelchair ♿️ friendly?
Unfortunately no. Lots of steps and no elevators. It would be pretty much impossible to make it wheel chair accessible. :-(
@@SirWillow thank you for your response
