I am 57 and used to get up early when I was right and my parents were having a lie in, I loved putting this on their old record player, awwww, happy memories, both my lovely parents are gone but it makes me happy just hearing it...thanks mum and dad for your love of music.x

Had this in my head but no idea who sang it! I was 6 when this was released. Had no idea Lyndsey De Paul co-wrote the song: my god I had a crush on that girl! She was so gorgeous. Great times, great songs: the music of the 70s was awesome, something totally different every week! In the top 20, you could have Reggae, Rock, Prog, Rhythm & Blues, Pop and sometimes, even Classical Orchestral! Today....its a load of crap that all sounds the same performed by utterly talentless nobodies.

This version goes into the chorus after verse three so it takes longer to get to the hook. I wonder if getting to the point quicker would have made a difference, chart wise, when this song came out. first saw the fortunes 1973 while on club circuit in them days quality bands would stop off at a social or working mens club before going on to a theatre, i remember the compare calling them on stage but they wanted to finish their game of snooker. we followed them on to theatre club but was rejected ay door for under age reasons. saw them agin in the 80s more of a comedy act mixed with music. last time i saw them was about a year before rod died, he still had his super voice which no one has ever been able to copy hence why mcartney nicknamed him golden tonsils.
16 years old looking out of my mums top floor flat window in Ilkley Yorkshire when it was raining and this playing on the radio then going back to my Motown The Temptations and what seemed a simpler life.
@@sunryse111 Yes l recall Rocky Valley , Slept on the moors a couple of times, that was when l was young and daft . Used to go to the night club in the Cow and Calf hotel it was in some dark basement with a tree in the middle of the dance floor. Great place to grow up Ilkley but just the music to take me back to a time long past.

mom used to date the lead singer back in the day when she was in the navy, he gave her a massive oversized panda bear, when i grew up i reached out for my mom to say hi. unfortunately he was sadly passed away like 2 years before, this was way back in the day

A great early 70s UK pop record
first saw the fortunes 1973 while on club circuit in them days quality bands would stop off at a social or working mens club before going on to a theatre, i remember the compare calling them on stage but they wanted to finish their game of snooker.
we followed them on to theatre club but was rejected ay door for under age reasons.
saw them agin in the 80s more of a comedy act mixed with music.
last time i saw them was about a year before rod died, he still had his super voice which no one has ever been able to copy hence why mcartney nicknamed him golden tonsils.

16 years old looking out of my mums top floor flat window in Ilkley Yorkshire when it was raining and this playing on the radio then going back to my Motown The Temptations and what seemed a simpler life.
You're just a stone's throw up the road for me! I live in Eldwick. Spent my youth climbing at the Cow & Calf Rocks and Rocky Valley above Ilkley.
@@sunryse111 Yes l recall Rocky Valley , Slept on the moors a couple of times, that was when l was young and daft . Used to go to the night club in the Cow and Calf hotel it was in some dark basement with a tree in the middle of the dance floor. Great place to grow up Ilkley but just the music to take me back to a time long past.
@@hindlewalker9330That area has changed so much now, with a cafe, car park and toilet - and a proper path up to the rocks to ease the ravages of a thousand hiking boots. Simpler times!

My mates dad was an original member, Glen Dale. R.I.P. Rich Garforth, aka Glen Dale.
mom used to date the lead singer back in the day when she was in the navy, he gave her a massive oversized panda bear, when i grew up i reached out for my mom to say hi. unfortunately he was sadly passed away like 2 years before, this was way back in the day
