Islam Ramazanovich Makhachev is a Russian professional mixed martial artist and former Sambo competitor. He currently competes in the Lightweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Lightweight Champion.[8] A professional competitor since 2010, Makhachev was the combat sambo world champion at 74 kilograms in 2016.[9] As of November 14, 2022, he is #2 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
Alexander Volkanovski (born 29 September 1988) is an Australian mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Featherweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Featherweight Champion. He is also a former Australian Fighting Championship (AFC) Featherweight champion. Prior to his UFC debut, Volkanovski competed as a professional boxer in 2015. As of 16 November 2022, he is #1 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.[7]

Seeing that Volkanovski can't finish fighters even in featherweight I can't see any way for him to last 5 rounds against Islam. Best of luck to him and I hope to see atleast few competitive rounds from them.

Volk can go 5 rounds and win a decision. His shots will prob have a lil more sting on them too up at 155. It’s going to come down to if Volk can stuff some takedowns and or get back to his feet quickly if he gets taken down. If he does that he can win, he’s a wizard on his feet.

Many don't realize that Alex started out fighting at middleweight, so he's faced fighters that are a lot bigger and stronger than Islam. This will not be a problem.
This isn't about facing middleweight opponent. anyone can face in any weight. The question is whether he can win with bigger guys and let's be honest - he can't.

Islam is very dominant guy, but Volk has lower centre of mass/gravity so I dont think it will be easy for Islam to get and hold Volk down. Volk has also bigger reach. The betting ods are ridiculous imho

I feel like the fact Volkanovski weighed 220 when he played rugby is being highly overrated. There's a reason he isn't fighting at 220. The key isn't whether he's used to weighing more, it's whether he can handle the strength of fighters in higher weight classes. I think Makachev runs through him

My take from this fight is that it won't matter even if Volk has lower center gravity, maybe Khabib would be easier takedown defense for Volk since he goes for double leg, while Islam is more Judo type of takedown. So I think Volk would most-likely get overwhelmed by Islam's Judo, and get submited within 2-3 rounds.

@@kpcart we don’t know that. Islam beat Olivera, ok a lot of people have. Islam failed a couple takedown attempts in that fight against Charles, essentially striking ending up winning Islam the fight. Olivera is much easier to hit than Volk.
