The 180 thermostat will not turn on the fans any sooner! It will open up flow of the coolant through your engine, but the fan turn on temp is controlled by the computer and would need a tuner to change that.
Did a mid muffler delete on my 2020 challenge scat pack. It has the perfect amount of growl without the obnoxiousness of straight piping. The one annoyance was a god-awful rattling sound whenever I hit 2k rpms and was close enough to a building or wall to hear the noise bouncing. It wasn't a crappy welding job or the exhaust pipes loose. It was the active exhaust actuator which according to Dodge requires the mid muffler to do it's job properly. Without the mid muffler, the actuator would allow the exhaust valve to flap even when the car is in track mode when the computer is supposed to be keeping the valves 100% open. To fix this nightmare that you fear will cost a lot of money but doesn't, you can take the 3 nuts off each actuator, remove the actuator springs, use a couple zipties to tie the cylinder open (valve open is turned clockwise), and put back the actuator cover without the springs. It works for 2019+ models; if you try 2018 and earlier it will probably give an error code even though you're not unplugging the actuator. Mopar Life's channel has a nice video here: ua-cam.com/video/zC-QE4Nzy1E/v-deo.html His method works great, but I had to redo mine because I couldn't get the ziptie wrapped around the cylinder to stay tight enough. So, I fed the ziptie in through the top-right casing hole, grooved between the 2 cylinder notches (hugging the notches on the outside of the cylinder), and fed out through the bottom-left casing hole. Once that was tight, the cylinder can't mechanically move regardless of friction because the ziptie would have to break for the cylinder to turn with it hugging those notches. Works like a charm for anyone having that same issue.
I added a 3" MBRP Racing catback fully stainless steel with quad tip carbon fiber covered tips. For about 1100 installed, it was the single biggest boost to the coolness of my WBSP. Rips at WOT.

Will be shouting you out on my channel as one of the main people I follow for this car content, with out a doubt!
Hey R-X...I have a 2020 custom Widebody ScatPack on order, and I was considering a few of the incremental mods you have suggested in several of your videos to gain that "incremental" HP and/or health of the vehicle for a reasonable cost as follows (1) Oil Catch Can; (2) 84 or 87mm throttle body; (3) 180 Degree Thermostat; (4) Lower Hellcat Airbox and headlight RAM air tube; and a Borla Cat-Back Exhaust (i.e. either S-Type or ATAK, not sure yet)says for the S-Type or Atak Cat-Back exhaust, besides dropping a few pounds and the resonators along with it, Borla states it increases horsepower 10-12 HP gain. If true, by all accounts the throttle body with the Borla System should add about 15 to 17 HP, and perhaps another 3 to 5 HP with the lower Hellcat Airbox. So maybe 18 to 23 HP overall with those minor mods. Does that sound about right, and again that is presuming Borla's claim is accurate. I spoke with Ian over there and he said that is Dyno tested/proven. Thoughts? P.S. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the educational info-tainment buddy.

@Scar face I've owned the car for a little over a year and been to the track a bunch of times with it. I'd say tune (both engine and tranny) and tires each cut about 2 to 3 tenths of a second off my times. Stock these will do high 12s. With tune, tires and some decent air this past Fall I ran 11.7

Hi RacerX. I own a 6.4L 2022 Challenger Scat Pack and I'm considering replacing the throttle body. I checked the Modern Muscle Xtreme, but they are recommending 87mm., instead of the 78mm that you are mentioning in your video. Any suggestions?
RacerX! First of all, I’m a huge fan of your channel...PLEASE keep it coming, and thank you. My question is, what (if any) power gains did you notice from the throttle body? That’s one of the next things I want to do with my Charger. Would you say it was worth it??
Hey RacerX.. I just bought a 2016 Shaker ScatPack and am interested in these mods. Thanks so much for posting! My Scat came with QTP Exhaust with electric 'cut out.' The thing is sick! Cheers!
Your videos are very informative but a couple of comments. 1. A lower temperature thermostat has no effect on the electric fan on/off set temperatures as these are programmed into the ECU. However if you have a stock thermostat and your fan on temperature has been reduced below that of the thermostat opening temperature, your fan will switch on earlier and will only switch off when you shut down the engine. If you have a 180*F thermostat, you ideally need the electric fan to switch on at ~195*F and off at ~185*F (slightly higher than thermostat opening temperature) so that it can cycle within a fairly narrow range. 2. The MMX ported throttle body is 87mm, not 78mm. The stock Scatpack throttle body is 80mm.
You are exactly right on both accounts .. I caught a couple of things later where I mispoke.. good catch brother! I wanted to make a few alterations to the video but once it's out there you just kinda gotta roll with it
Just got off the phone with MMX the 6.4 has an 80 mm he said 85 will be the way to go if you don’t plan on porting the intake just for a little extra but he did not mention 78
Tom Daytona I think RacerX meant to say 87 rather than 78 - the stock throttle body is 80. I just ordered the 87 from MMX myself - hopefully that will be as good or better than the 85
The hellcat box is the intake for the money, I’ve went through 2 180 t-stats, motorad as well as mishimoto, there were ZERO benefits at the track with the 180 and both went bad within 6 months......
RacerX Hmmm I wonder why my t-stats go bad so quick, Wellington you notice your temp rising above 215 for long periods of time I would switch it out ASAP
I appreciate you staying home bro! It’s the little things that help! I came to this video seeing was up since I got a Scatpack charger 2019... thanks bro! Subbed 💯👍🏼
@Will iam just by your comment I can already tell you’re voting/voted for trump lol. It’s stupid to think the pandemic is a hoax when it’s killing hundreds of thousands around the globe. “Violating our rights” our rights get violated regardless of a pandemic or not by the government so why get all ticked about it during these times. Grow up
Are we sure it’s not just us old school muscle car guys that care about these 180-190 thermostats? It’s amazing how these SRTs run from factory and both of mine are up to 210 within a mile. My brain screams “danger danger” . I panic everyday lol but i think it’s fine for these cars (obviously) and us old school guys just can’t let go-just like the old people who refuse to text and have to call people on the phone.
Most cars run in the 200 nowadays. My old SRT-4, i changed to a 180 T stat but the factory running temp was in the 210F range. My F150 same. My ZJ runs just above 210, and these cars are designed to run at around 200ish also. I do think it's an old school train of thought, like changing your oil every 3000 mile, and "tune ups", this may have well gone the way of the dinosaur.
sometimes the 180 thermostats can throw a code "Engine too cold too long" if the thermostat doesnt let the temp get over 178 within a short period of time it will throw this code. I had this issue with a 5.7 ended up going with a 196 T-stat instead to resolve this
Yeah, changing the thermostat for a lower temp one is a bad idea in my opinion. You are not increasing the cooling capacity of the system by doing that, you're dropping the designed running temperature of the engine when cruising on the freeway. In that scenario (low load / high road speed) the thermostat needs to cycle open and closed at the correct designed temperature to keep the engine at its correct operating temp. Drop that temp and the ECU will still think you're in the warm up cycle and the fuel and timing maps will be adjusted accordingly. If you're pushing it hard enough that it runs hotter & hotter out of control, then you need a bigger radiator (assuming your cooling system is all working properly).
@@RacerX9 From what my research showed me the manufactures have a tolerance +/- a few degrees of accuracy to the rated temp so i may have just got one that was at the bottom of that tolerance. but just something to note ;)
@@RacerX9 - I didn't have that issue, but a bud with a 6.4 would throw codes in the winter. He ended up going with a 190* Stant and I did the same with my scat pack. never throws codes and runs in the 190's during normal driving. Not a bad compromise for those on a stock tune.
On any challenger, the center of the headlight (black circle) can be popped out allowing direct cooler air to the air box. I bought an OEM mopar cold air intake and it came with a rubber boot to connect the headlight to the air box. Now my air intake temp is only 6-8° warmer than the ambient air temperature

Goodstuff Betterstuff .. some like the sound of the mid muffler delete and some do not.. its really just individual preference.. although $50 compared to $1500 is a big difference
Get a Tazer from Zee automotive put it in your vehicle and you’ll have line lock I did that with my 2018 Daytona love it not to mention it gives you a lot of the stuff
I just swapped mine for an 87 mm ported TB from ModernMuscleXtreme. Made identical passes right before and after the swap and noticed a gain in low end torque both subjectively and on the Dyno in Perf Pages. Sounds better too!
Thanks for the video, man.👍🏻 Didn't know about the 180° t-stat. I've pre-ordered a '20 scatpack T/A 392. Waiting for delivery (pending Covid19 plant closures, etc). Not sure if I'll do the mid-muffler delete, but will do catchcan, 180 t-stat & throttle body. Thx again!
All good suggestions however the t-stat recommendation works better with a tune so you can adjust the fans because if the car isn’t tuned the fans will run prematurely because at idle the car will heat up quick until the radiator gets air flowing.
re: 1:03 & 7:41 mid-muffler delete; absolutely it sounds *_FANTASTIC_* ... as long as it's a track toy or you only drive it cruising the strip & between stoplights with John Milner & Bob Falfa! Otherwise, if you drive it as a grocery getter\daily driver, sure you'll impress everybody that only has to endure the brain melting noise for 30-80 seconds, but you will need an Excedrin the size of Cincinnati & quickly get sick of it. Plus, you will be *_deaf_* as a career firefighter after retiring from army artillery.
Hey, RacerX! So i've had my own scat pack shaker for a few weeks now and i've done the rear and mid muffler delete. Any opinion on if removing those you LOSE power? I work in a shop and I feel the back pressure thing has long been proven a myth since we have dynos and such now that prove no power loss but i wanna know your opinion. Have personally felt nothing different from the car and still performs amazingly! Appreciate the videos and would definitely appreciate the feedback.
@@RacerX9 I have a 2020 wide body with two heat vents on either side of the hood. If installed the hellcat box will water go straight to the air filter if it’s raining or I’m washing the car

A lot of other functions too like line lock, cooldown etc.
I happened across a 2012 SRT8 Yellowjacket in almost new condition with 45,000 miles on it. Picked it up for a great deal. I'm wondering if these mods can be done to this car?
Thanks for the info RacerX, love your vids, always informative and not biased. I ordered the 87mm throttle body after watching. One question I have is did you remove the cap from the passenger side light port?
I’m not entirely sure Mike if I’m honest.. most of the time people will do this with other mods so it’s difficult to determine how much it will add by itself
Just love the channel. I have just purchased a Challenger and started the 5 mods withe the delete of the mid mufflers yesterday; the sound is superb! as I go forward to throttle body swap, I can’t find the MMX 78mm throttle body? Did I mis hear the size? Should it be 78mm for the MMX replacement?. Help pls and keep the good ideas coming!
Still looking for help on the ported throttle size; 78 or 87mm. My challenger Is a 6.4 50th Anniversary Scat Pack. The mid-muffler delete Is really sounding great...honestly. I kept the mufflers, they are small. I just ordered the Hellcat Lower air box. The catch can is next! Will Racerx chim in on these...I am net to the team?..?
An additional when using the hellcat lower cold air box, if you remove the left and right inner air ducts inserts, the is an issue of water possibly being injested into the air intake and into the motor. Slim but possible!
Can you attach the actual link to where you bought your oil catch can? I have a 23 shaker, and had to return the catch can, since it wouldn't let me close the hood of the car. So I need something with a lower mounting point, like you have. Thanks in advance.
Won't the 180 thermostat require a tune? Not for the fans but because the car thinks the engine is not getting up to temp? Our 2012 charger did this when the thermostat failed and it was only getting to 185-190...
Shouldn't a engine run between 190-210, which is needed for piston expansion so your rings seat properly and other parts to expand for proper tolerances?
Definitely the most informative scatpack channel that I’ve found so far. I love the content
Thank you my friend.. much appreciated
Racer X, if the throttle body is changed, would a tune be needed? Great videos, love the channel!!

The mid delete is a no-go for me. I live in a rural neighborhood and already feel like I'm pissing them off with the stock exhaust, lol.
Absolutely love your videos very informative, just noticed I wasn’t subbed, changed that!
underrated account
Cool video man hard to make that content right now huh lol all good still love it. You and family stay safe stay Fast my friend
Thank you Justin.. you too buddy 👍
Grow up
I swear I think of a question and then boom your channel has the answer 😬
Cheers from the Dallas area
I heard that if you get a 180 thermostat it’s useless unless you tune the fans to or something of the sort. Otherwise it just stays open all the time.
This is the video I needed
sometimes the 180 thermostats can throw a code "Engine too cold too long" if the thermostat doesnt let the temp get over 178 within a short period of time it will throw this code. I had this issue with a 5.7 ended up going with a 196 T-stat instead to resolve this
That’s interesting.. this is my 4th car I have had one on and no issues. Thanks for pointing that out
Yeah, changing the thermostat for a lower temp one is a bad idea in my opinion.
Rest of the ideas are good though. I think the hellcat intake is the best intake, that's why they fitted it to the hellcat!
My son’s first mod. Picked car up Saturday and Monday it was at exhaust shop lol
Robbie Frentz Every vehicle I’ve ever owned I lived by the motto, “Pipes before Plates”!!!
Nice.. hope you like the sound 👍
You can also put icebags infront of your radiator fans. Thats a trick even racecar driver use!
On any challenger, the center of the headlight (black circle) can be popped out allowing direct cooler air to the air box. I bought an OEM mopar cold air intake and it came with a rubber boot to connect the headlight to the air box. Now my air intake temp is only 6-8° warmer than the ambient air temperature
chad nixon .. yes it makes a huge difference! Not sure why Dodge didn’t do this from the factory on all vehicles
@@RacerX9 will the hellcat air box work with the shaker package?
You don't need the Hellcat airbox with the shaker package. It has a cutout for the cold air tube
Very good video good information, on my 2018 Daytona I have an active exhaust and I won’t touch it and delete anything I’ll keep my mufflers it sounds awesome, the throttlebody I’m definitely going to look into I already have the Catchcan thanks for the info keep up on the videos
Awsome video, well explained💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Orangecrush392 .. thanks buddy 👍
Imo, Muffler delete is poor mans mod!! Sounds like crap too. The rest of the mods are truly helpful. I have a 17 and only wish I had line lock. I may add the Hurst set up. Good videos... keep at it, stay healthy.
Appreciate you man!
Good informative video. 👍🏽
Thank you my friend
I enjoyed this video very helpful
Great video!! what size throttle body do you run on yours just bought a 2020 widebody scatpack
I'm guessing 92mm make be I can't remember though
Go for the fastman 84 mm throttle body , best bang for the buck
I just swapped mine for an 87 mm ported TB from ModernMuscleXtreme. Made identical passes right before and after the swap and noticed a gain in low end torque both subjectively and on the Dyno in Perf Pages. Sounds better too!
I’ve been waiting for this vid 🙏🙏
Jaime Rodriguez 🤜🔥🔥
Thanks for the video, man.👍🏻
Didn't know about the 180° t-stat. I've pre-ordered a '20 scatpack T/A 392. Waiting for delivery (pending Covid19 plant closures, etc). Not sure if I'll do the mid-muffler delete, but will do catchcan, 180 t-stat & throttle body.
Thx again!
Dave ForTexas .. nice .. I hope you get it soon 👍
All good suggestions however the t-stat recommendation works better with a tune so you can adjust the fans because if the car isn’t tuned the fans will run prematurely because at idle the car will heat up quick until the radiator gets air flowing.
6.4L HemiPower .. this is true.. a tune may help to keep the fans from turning on prematurely
Hey RacerX, would be glad to meet up with you some time, live south of Granbury TX, have a ‘16 Challenger Scat Pack. Love your videos man.
great video! thank you!
Thanks Brother excellent
re: 1:03 & 7:41 mid-muffler delete; absolutely it sounds *_FANTASTIC_* ... as long as it's a track toy or you only drive it cruising the strip & between stoplights with John Milner & Bob Falfa!
Great video buddy 👍
Thanks again Chad
Your hoods got a giant hole in it Fam
It sure does lol
Best UA-cam $300 mod........microphone windsock mic ;)
My 5.7 RT also has the midmufler on it.
Dodge definitely has the best sounding exhaust systems out of the American manufacturers from the factory.
Could you provide links to purchase the catch can thermostat and intake?
Super!!!
Shaker hood beautiful
FANTASTIC VIDEO very well explained Thank you! #TeamX
Thank you Michael 🤜🔥🔥
@@RacerX9 I have a 2020 wide body with two heat vents on either side of the hood. If installed the hellcat box will water go straight to the air filter if it’s raining or I’m washing the car
Tazer is amazing too for the scatpack.
What does a Tazer do?
@@danteblrmf304 it's a dongle from zautomotive.com that plugs into the obd2 port and unlocks things like drive modes that are only found on SRTs including track and eco mode. It allows you to select which drive mode to startup in. Also allows you to remap functions including drive modes to the acc buttons on the steering wheel. A lot of other functions too like line lock, cooldown etc.
Thank you!
Add a throttle response controller and a rear diffuser.
Nice
Hell yea
I happened across a 2012 SRT8 Yellowjacket in almost new condition with 45,000 miles on it. Picked it up for a great deal. I'm wondering if these mods can be done to this car?
You may need to tune your afr for the throttle body.
Thanks for the info RacerX, love your vids, always informative and not biased. I ordered the 87mm throttle body after watching. One question I have is did you remove the cap from the passenger side light port?
Thanks RacerX! How much HP would the throttle body get you, do you think?
He actually meant 87mm and not 78mm. The stock is 80mm
Have you done "active exhaust" stay open? What do you think?
Can you attach the actual link to where you bought your oil catch can? I have a 23 shaker, and had to return the catch can, since it wouldn't let me close the hood of the car. So I need something with a lower mounting point, like you have. Thanks in advance.
If you switch the throttle body what kind of MPG loss do you suffer?
Won't the 180 thermostat require a tune? Not for the fans but because the car thinks the engine is not getting up to temp? Our 2012 charger did this when the thermostat failed and it was only getting to 185-190...
So do I have to do oil changes more frequently with the catch can now added?
Thanks!
Thank you John.. I appreciate the support
Shouldn't a engine run between 190-210, which is needed for piston expansion so your rings seat properly and other parts to expand for proper tolerances?
