GP, you are a treasure. This melange of roleplaying, history lessons and very solid commentary while driving (on par with Jimmy B) is a blast to watch.
I like that he always credits the mod makers. This clearly took so much work. I love jimmy too but I remember one video that he made, which got a few hundred thousand views, where he didn't even mention the mod he was using, seemed wrong as he was making some money off the video and mod makers usually make nothing or very little for hundreds of hours of work.
Much better than jimmy Broadbent tbh. There are tons of better sim racing content creators then him, that have less than half his subscribers, lets be honest.

I cant believe people rate track rips 5 stars and are completely ignorent over how much work goes into a track like this. The detail and immersion are outstanding. This is bringing exciting racing history to people like me eho had no idea this track ever existed. Its clear to see that this took a lot of work and... Its not even finished yet!?
Thanks for the lovely review. There's a few frustrations with making these cars, mostly with finding out good technical info and getting a good look at little details on the cars themselves, so it's rewarding to know that people enjoy them. Very much agree about the track too, it's great fun to hot-lap around and your video really conveys how much fun it is to race against the AI.
Loving the work you've done here, this in itself might be enough to get me to get AC. You're right to point out how difficult it is to get info about the cars of this era - so much innovation going on. It gets even harder when you look at the more obscure entries (Parry Thomas' Flatirons eg) - brilliant work on your part, from what I can see

Yes, it's one of the hardest parts of the process, you often find info that completely contradicts info you've found elsewhere or if it agrees you start to wonder if they've just copied what they've found elsewhere. I try not to be too strict on accuracy because I couldn't make the cars if I was but it's something I try to achieve if I can.
@@colinmarkwick141 AC is such a dynamic sim. Is it the best? I have no clue. From cruising around Shunto or LA Canyon online with buddies, drifting through a car park, or trying to keep your vintage rubber on the track at Watkins, it honestly feels like there's something for everyone. I had no clue the game even existed just two years ago as I had initially built a PC for truck sim. To date I've got somewhere like 600 hours, and a embarrassingly large amount of GB in mod storage, logged in AC. So yeah, do it my friend.

@@BenKill Always gives me a nice buzz to know that people enjoy them. I started out with barely a clue just wanting to know how this modding thing was done so there's still areas I can improve as I learn more but I've learnt a hell of a lot already and it's been a really fun, if occasionally frustrating, journey.

Living in Rüsselsheim and having walked around the abandoned track many Times, I always dreamed about somehow driving it for myself, thank you for offering us this experience!
I'm living and walking also there and dreaming the same.
For the old European ovals, parabolic banking was the norm, whereas here in the States, it's flat banking (same degree of slope all the way across).
You were just barely off a 33-flat for your fastest lap, so an average speed of 101.6 mph.
One of the ovals I haven't actually seen a race at is Montlhery, strangely enough. Maybe you can rectify that at some point.
It's maybe floating around somewhere, but it would be interesting to see a recreation of the actual pre-War Monza, including the original banking.
I want to see a version of Sitges-Terramar as well

So it does seem some of the tracks are around, at least in basic or makeshift form. I'd thought I'd seen a lower-banked Monza before at some stage.

Thanks for putting a spotlight on these cars - been driving them for the past few days and they're utterly brilliant cars - on the ovals they're a unique challenge, they play quite nicely with Donington Park 1938, and they're a blast around Goodwood.
The classic Le Mans, Longford and Gnoo Blas, all on RaceDepartment are all great fits, as are all of Fat-Alfie's and Sergio Loro's work, ItaloTracks' Napoli and of course the Kunos Silverstone & Monza tracks.
I am glad you are doing AC content man. Love your style, love the knowledge. There is some "warmness" about the style of your videos.

This is the kind of thing that makes me eye up a VR headset. In VR this wouldn't be sim racing it would be time travelling. Lovely video!
I would 1000% recommend a vr headset for sim racing. doesn’t make you any faster, but oh my god is it so fun. I probably wouldn’t have half the time i’ve logged in sims without vr, there’s just something so special about sending an old lamborghini, a 98t, a nascar, whatever have you, around your favorite tracks in vr. I get truly lost in it sometimes, because it’s just so damn cool to be able to look around the cockpit, or to look over and see a wheel millimeters from my sidepod. 11/10 would recommend.
I life in the nearby of the old Rennbahn. Very cool to find out that a mod about this iconic circuit is available.
I live 25 minutes from this circuit and was there for the first time today. Seeing the track live is great, but the animation brings the past back to life and that's absolutely great! Like a journey through time - thanks for these impressions!

The Delage 2LCV is a pretty rare sight nowadays apparently. Most, if not all of the cars, were upgraded further in 1924 and 1925 (when they fitted superchargers, taking the power output to around 190bhp claimed by the factory, which is pretty high for 1925). And after their competitive careers were over, they ended up in private hands and slipped into obscurity.
But one early 2LCV (that looks a lot like the one in the video, apparently it is the first ever 2LCV) survived to the present day, though fitted with a WW1 Hispano-Suiza aircraft engine that had been fitted by an owner in 1926. It is now known as the Bequet Delage (or Delage Bequet), after the owner of the car in the 1920s who fitted the aircraft engine, a man named Maurice Bequet.

@@Heavywall70 so many intricate nuances to nascar that people don’t realize. I’m not a fan, but I can absolutely appreciate the unique skill set of the drivers.
Nascar was board track racing in 1923. The board tracks were called "motordromes", but cynical people called them "murderdromes" because drivers (and spectators) often died.

It's been 2 years since you posted this and 100 years since such events took place - and now I really, really want to try it. Your passion for classic racing can't be appreciated enough. Along with these smart people creating tracks and vehicles of the era over at Race Dept is truly a gift. Having just gotten AC fully setup with all the proper mods, I'm now ready to explore some history. This track would be amazing in VR and just this evening I brought home a new Quest 3, to join our 2 other Quest 2, so this is timely.

I love the eras of racing from the early 20th century. The uniqueness of the cars with their crazy inventions. And especially all the strange track features from back then as well.

Some months later I'm completely lost in the game - and a ton of mods and books about the different eras of motorsport (and different drivers) richer. Also, speaking of Delage, some street car of the 30's, with that art deco' style, are simply some of the most beatiful cars ever made, alongside Bugatti, Delahye, Talbot, Hispano-Suiza.... This is absolutely fantastic, I love that this is another viable era of motorsport we can explore with Sim racing. Some of the tracks back then were enormous road courses so making those tracks is going to be a challenge, but we thought targa would be impossible and those geniuses eventually built it. Honestly your tracks are some of the few places these cars feel _right_ to drive on, alongside all of Fat-Alfie's work, the Kunos 60's tracks, 30's Donington, Longford and Gnoo Blas.
I'm happy to see some French automobile history not being forgotten. For all we talk about later Renaults, Alpines,...we sadly forget how diverse and innovative our industry used to be in the interwar years. Especially Voisin and Grégoire !
Most of these manufacturers died in the after-WWII years, with the Plan Pons deciding which manufacturer had to make what kind of cars and get ressources, there was no room for luxury automobiles.
My favourite channel ATM. I personally love that sims allow us to drive historical cars more so than the modern marvels. Glad you've come back fully loaded GPLAPS.

Fantastic ! Having watched this video I was compelled to download both the car and the track. Thanks for creating the AI files which enabled me to have a few races and several deaths against the AI. This is really something different and finally gave me something approaching the experience I had hoped for when I purchased Spirit of Speed all those years ago ( yes, it was I who bought it :P ! ),

Would really love it if someone was insane enough to go into this level of detail with some of the infamous road races like the Carrera Panamericana and Targa Florio. Always been a dream of mine to drive those routes in period cars in something like Assetto. Amazing video as always.
Re the Targa Florio - here, go and live your dream. www.patreon.com/abulzz I've attempted the circuit in AC so many times, normally in cars of this period, but every time I seem to get humbled at one point or another; I'll concentrate for half an hour straight, then with one momentary lapse I'm in an impossible position facing down the side of a hill...the endurance, and the sheer skill, of the drivers who mastered it was incredible.
Set these jewels up last night on this track but it crashed on loading, probably because there is no AI line. Will try again today with your AI addition. I set them up and raced on the Sitges track with the old Bentley and merc added. As you say the most fun I have had in ages. A perfect way to learn some automotive history. Thank you very much for this - A treasure.

Magic! O’ how I wish we had a dedicated interwar-period racing sim!
Many of us do, but the biggest barrier to creation is doubtless the lack of data, especially for cars that have either been completely lost to time or modified far beyond their in-period specification.
As for data implementation, not many Sims can accurately replicate early suspension solutions; your best shot at which at the moment I believe is Beamng Drive, but even then that's still a long way off from being a comprehensive, serious simulator for Motorsports applications; even with how detailed the physics system is thus far.
I loved this video. Things like this are why I love AC so much. Not everything should be about modern F1 and GT3 cars even if that is what the majority demands. I just wish I had a powerful enough rig and a wheel to properly play this game to its fullest potential. I can barely run any races without getting the "99% CPU usage" warning.
Great content again Jake. Like everybody else your narration with educational passion is fantastic. Your a great raconteur. One thing on my bucket list is to learn more about pre war racing. I know quite a lot after WW2 but still have a lot to learn on pre war. It really sounds interesting and how you've analysed it so far.
One thing that intrigues me (maybe someone could answer?) Why oval & banking racing seemed to decline after WW2 in Europe but in the states it stayed quite popular?

Awesome video as always, and great to see you come out with a win! On the topic of French race cars, have you heard of the Delahaye 145? There's an awesome book about it, and 1930s grand prix racing called Faster, I highly recommend it!
Gotta love the Delahaye 145 V12, and Rene Dreyfus beating Mercedes-Benz at Pau with it, pissing off Hitler in the process.
@@Villoresi That last part is the funniest part to me. Hitler's silver arrows losing to a French team, with a Jewish driver, whose team was owned by an American woman. I don't think history could have written a more perfect ending to a story.
