I wouldn't mind if every ivy league school was shut down, all they do for society is give people a sense of elitism and superiority. And with the internet, going to a prestigious school isn't necessary for a quality education anymore, state schools are going to teach you the same shit.

People applying to college during my graduating year was at a record high. I knew students who were applying to Brown with double-legacy (both parents graduated from Brown) who were rejected--with stellar grades, test scores, extra-curricular activities, the full gambit.

@Jswirv You are definitely correct as an overall assessment, I'm sure. Though, their exclusivity is variable from major to major. I was a good student, but not one of those crazy assholes who did extracurricular shit like drama, debate club etc. I test badly, so my SATs were probably crap, I can't remember. My GPA was pretty great though. I got in, but I applied with the intent to go into an incredibly tiny major, almost experimental major. High school performance isn't an accurate snapshot for what I was going to major in. But alas, I got accepted into what was otherwise called a 'flex school' by my college advisor in high school. It sucks that these rich-ass kids who could've gotten coaching on their SATs, or extra counselling, needed to be bribed into a college like USC. Crooked coaches aside, I feel like their admissions process is super fair. I put passion in my essays and visual work that I submitted in my application, and they saw that. That's why I got in. Debate club and drama programs were never going to be an accurate portrayal of what I had to offer, and USC picked up on that. Ok I drank a lot of wine and I'm feeling ranty. Sorry y'all! But USC is a legit school. Sucks that a few coaches put a tarnish on it.

Tigrisinntalute I’d argue that rich people taking advantage of the system in a way that is illegal isn’t really shocking. Obviously it is destructive and detrimental but imo so is parents (legally) donating a library and having their kids get in to top tier schools.

As for your point, I’m a bit unsure what you mean. Are you saying that because this crime must happen without knowledge (presumably that of authorities), then it follows that its a surprise to the general public? As for the donations, yes they may not guarantee entry but colleges have great incentive to allow the children of richer families (with or without donations) to enrol.

1420 incredible ? I have 1500 on SAT, 770s on subject tests, close to perfect GPA, stellar recommendations, launched a social welfare startup worth $50,000 and 4 time astronomy quiz gold medallist. Still rejected from almost all my top choices. Now that's the difference between a beverly hill kid and small town indian

3:40 I agree with you Hila. 8:10 I DON'T think it's the daughters' fault at all. Are they gonna oppose their parents? Unheard of unless you're privileged. How can she oppose her parents? It's not about what she wants , it's about what her mom wants. Hila's kinda right.

i’m glad you did a pod on this. huffman’s daughter was at the same auditions i went to. they are called unifieds, and they’re usually meant for kids that can’t travel to NYC all the time, so they can bang out 6-7 colleges. it makes me feel queasy that one person bribed in the performing arts scene, while i’m auditioning, and it just makes me think about how corrupt the performing arts college scene could be.

"boosting from a 1000 to a 1420". A 1420 is not an "incredible" at all. It's good, but if you submit that score to any ivy your not getting in.
