    I miss AMC and feel in the end they got a raw deal. But in the face of everything going on, they at least lasted as long as they did. I rarely see any of their cars anymore, except for Jeeps, and it's kind of sad. The deal with Renault which I figure they felt would save them didn't work out, and I haven't seen an Alliance model anywhere since the late 90's. I guess their real golden age was the 60's and especially the 70's.

      I know they needed the capital but going with Renault was a mistake. Renault's own cars caused AMC to slip even deeper into debt

    2:25 Notice the sedan bodyshell has the old 4-window Hornet roofline. The same was true for the few (fleet-only?) Concord sedans built without the padded vinyl top. I've long suspected they hand-cut the extra windows on the line.

      Drove my newly bought second hand 1969 Rambler from Toronto to Vancouver via south of the Great Lakes in 1975 on a student holiday. Vacuum wipers were a surprise, but had great respect for the car by the end of my trip. Took about 2.5 months to do and was a great way to see Canada and part of the USA as visitor from the UK.

    If you did the research, AMC bought all the coiled steel from the Ford Rouge Plant in Dearborn Michigan. Ford Steel Division sold metal and steel to all the automotive companies, including the transplant foreign car makers. AMC did not have its own steel mill manufacturing operations.
    My AMC Javlin has a Ford engine installed at the factory. As this video clearly shows from the assembly plant pit crew view, the only AMC manufactured engine part is the engine exhaust system. But the engine is Ford Blue all the way.

      No. Your Javelin DOES NOT have a Ford factory installed engine.
      AMC built ALL of their motors. Most definitely, they installed other manufacturers PARTS, i.e. Motorcraft carburetors on V8's such as the 390 which was AMC's engine - had NOTHING to do with a Ford 390. All these years later and people STILL can't get it right...

    AMC -american made crap-I sold auto parts for many years and you had to know if it had a ford starter/alternator,delco starter/alternator,chrysler alternator/starter or prestolite starter/alternator just to supply the customer the correct part but with some you had to special order the correct part because after certain years the common parts became hard to obtain or mid year changes made it hard to get parts because they changed something and you had to go to the dealer to obtain parts

    the amc pacer had a straight 6 engine with the back 2 cylinders in the firewall! how were you supposed to change those
    plugs? the gremlins were just plain junk!

    • @robertlays9079
      @robertlays9079 Рік тому

      The pacer was originally supposed to have front wheel drive and a GM made rotary engine. GM canceled production of the engine about 6 months before the Pacer was supposed to be produced. Thanks GM. They had to come up with a way to make their own straight six fit and change the car to rear wheel drive The "junkie" gremlin lasted more years than the crappy Vega and pinto. The gremlin was cheap but showed that it was a better car than those two.
