Hiii Markos, I have a question. Is it a good idea to take HL math and HL biology together? Im considering studying biology but don't know if I will need HL math....
These are really helpful tips can you also share how'd you revise for the maths before your final exam by choosing one of the topic from maths aa ? Cause I also watched through your revision tips and scheduling them before test that helped me guide making plans for the other subjects but not really for maths
Yeh, so maths is a bit different, but I basically just did a bunch of questions by topic. This allowed me to see the patterns within the topics, and get used to answering particular question structures. Timetable it as if it was any subject
Hey Markos! I remember you saying that for your chem IA you looked at hydrogen peroxide decomposition, and I am starting to think about doing this, however, I have nooo idea how I can come from a unique angle! I really wanted to determine the activation energy of an iodination reaction by measuring the absorbance rate using a colorimeter, however I can no longer do this because my school does not have this sort of equipment (we only have a spectrophometer)! :( So I just really wanted to ask you for any advice as I finish IB in November 2023, and really want to finish my chem IA asap, but am struggling to think of an idea that has something unique in the methodology.
I’ve got exactly 1 month until my mocks(it will start on the 28th of May and finish on the 8th of June), which will be a major determinant of my PG’s. I’m struggling to keep a consistent study schedule as my school will not be giving us days off to study. The subjects I’m worried about are Biology, Math, and Econ. Should I dedicate each day to a different subject? Or spend each day a certain number of hours on each? I don’t know. Especially since Biology requires at least 2-3 hours of studying and revision for each sub-topic. Also for Economics, did you use a specific study strategy? And do you know any resource that has real world examples for paper 1? We only did unit 2 so I hope it’s not that hard For maths, Did you use revision village? If so, should focus more on the hard questions of each topic? Please let me know Sorry if this a bit long but there are just so many different things people are saying and I don’t know what to follow. Thank you in advance!
That's perfectly reasonable, Maths Bio and Econ are tough, and most schools don't really give time off, which can be really tough. I'd say try to maximise the time you have outside of school - you should have a few hours every day - pick a subject and funnel down on it, do some revision, some past questions etc. After a couple of weeks, you will have been able to cover most of the content! I don't think Biology requires that much revision for each subtopic - if you studied well for your tests, it should just be a matter of rerevising, doing some practice questions, and should be easy enough. If you want to make flashcards for bio, while this takes a little longer now, it will help you in the long run, as they are amazing for cramming. For econ, I'd say use the textbook - it should have everything you need, plus real world examples. Examples don't have to be too abstract or hard, and can just be examples you see in the news (If you are really interested, sign up to the economist and search for terms like inflation, recession, and then all the micro stuff too) For maths, revision village wasn't a thing in my day, but it seems pretty good - so I think it is worth using!
ahahah fair enough - different schools have different perceptions of what is high or low, and that's ok. I know there are many schools where everyone gets 40+. We don't need to compare ourselves to others, as long as you are improving and are satisfied with your progress, that's what matters!
What preparations can I make for math HL? I'm currently a year 10 student, planning on going to IB next year and the whole math HL thing is very unsettling so I was thinking of getting extra classes in the summer to be more...prepared, I guess? And also, what topics should I cover while practicing for it beforehand? Are there any hard subjects where having strong fundamentals would help quite a lot?

I would say no. I think HL physics is a really tricky course, and trying to do it well without HL maths is tough. I think people who try to do HL physics with SL maths will usually not do very well, as the skillset needed is very similar. Also, in terms of uni applications, any degree which requires HL physics will want HL maths, so I would recommend either doing both or neither.
Reading all the comments , is Ib that scary and stressful? Or is it that students these days don't won't to go for persistent dedicated time inputs due to many distractions

Can you suggest good BIO question-bank resources? Cause i find them rarely and not covering all of the topics, thank u
I mainly study from Bio Ninja when I want to distract myself from how trash I am at mathematics. I dont think im making to uni :)
Good tips!
Thanks!
