In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Elio E Le Storie Tese and the song is called Tapparella.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

The song talks about the Italian highschool teen parties (in the 80's), the falsetto back voices are the nasty friends at the party and the lead singer is the boy who's trying to be accepted but they don't want him at the party.
One of their inspiration artist is Frank Zappa.

    Translated lyrics:
    Big ol' zits
    Blinds down
    And bottle
    Plus purified armpit
    Do you remember, how sweet
    The middle school party
    ~you're not coming!~
Doesn't matter, y'kno, I was supposed to have judo [at that time anyway]
But if you'd like it I can bring records
So you all can dance some ballads
~sure, bring them, but you're not getting in~
Why, why are you like this?
And I thought, and I hoped [that *something positive*]
    I will participate
    I will self invite
    Damn middle school party
I ask for fonzi (intentionally silly mispronunciation of fonzies, a snack also distributed in Australia as twisties) and they give me leftovers
    Chirst, whyyyyy
    ~commotion:~
    ~"spin the bottle" kicks off~
With some luck I'll be able to...
    ~you're not playing!~
    ...kiss...
~we formed the teams beforehand!~ [pretty sure this is just a way to shut the main character up and there are no teams]
    ...grope...
~but if you wait we'll be done in a little~
Yeah okay but then let's dance
    ~STOP FUCKING BOTHERING US~
On the [record player] plate a gièghegiè [no idea what that is, intentionally obscure 80s juvenile slang] spins
I dance alone and pride myself in it
    Wonderful laughingstock, I
    Will not consume
    Will not swallow
This oh so bitter orange soda
    {SOLO}
[Note: the following "no" section is, in the studio version, overlayed with a spoken word, pitched up (because middle school) rant about the same things listed below]
    No
    Invited: no
    No fonzi, no
    On the glass no
No name, no [a reference to names being written in sharpie on plastic cups]
    Slow dancing: no
    Hard dancing: no
    [spin] The bottle: no
Game scopa: no [Italian card game, the phrasing is intentionally ungrammatical]
    Friendship: no
    Courtesy: no
    Value-for-price: no
    Abundant room for parking: no
    ENOUGH!
    THIS PARTY IS UNSATISFACTORY
BUT I HAVE A SPARE ONE
    IN MY MIND
    IT'S A VERY PECULIAR PARTY
    WHERE EVERYONE WILL BE INVITED
    MANY FRIENDS
    ANY ENEMIES
    AND PANINO TOO!
    GO PANINO! [ad libitum]

Not their best live, but glad to see EelST on a reaction channel. They are without a doubt the best Italian band, period. It's also good to hear your reaction because often their music is ignored, believe it or not. They started as a "comic" band, their lyrics are often surreal, depicting crazy and funny stories, which led people to take them for jokesters for the longest time, not realizing how amazing they are as musicians... but they do have a darker, more introspective side. It came out more after the loss of their friend and band member Feiez. I encourage you to read through lyrics if you do more reactions, they're essential to the musical context. Final fun bit of trivia: they've played extensively with James Taylor on tour and have jammed with Santana.

I’m a huge fan of progressive music, British, American and Italian. Elio e le storie tese is probably one of the best Italian bands of all times. Tapparella has been even played together with Santana on the Italian tv back in the 90s (check ‘taratata Elio Santana’ on UA-cam). If you want to try pure Italian 70’s progressive, I suggest you to check ‘Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Evoluzione’. Cheers!

This whole concert was indeed live, but without audience! It was a stunt organized by Samsung to promote its Nexus series... or something along these lines.
Elio e le storie tese are a staple in Italian contemporary history, they started in 1979 but stopped playing together in 2018... Very sad times 😭 They are not strictly a prog rock band as they have songs from about all genres of music (discomusic, classic rock, pop, rap etc...)
They heavily rely on their funny and complex lyrics to carry their music, I can't imagine listening to them without understanding what they are saying! In fact in this very song they are singing about a typical middle school party and how Elio wasn't invited but still managed to sneak in. The ending is dedicated to a member of the band (Panino) who sadly passed away while playing with them... They used to play this song last in their concerts to leave the audience on an heartfelt note...
Also the leader of the group is actually Mangoni, the one dancing behind the singer Elio

Many already commented this but the funny story they are telling (actually sad but told in a so funny way) is probably more than half of the beauty of this song, more than the hi level music they are able to compose and perform. Even reading the translation of the lyrics won't let you appreciate its greatness, with all the references to the local culture and the use of words, the timings of each verse.. there is so much! As native I can tell you the "ha now they say that thing" is much more immersing than the music alone even at the nth listening. Elio are very good but they are not that big thing, their secret is in the ironical, demential but harsh critic to the society of their lyrics.
But the real Italian prog rock is from 70s with PFM, Banco, Area and Orme. I can suggest you PFM's "river of live". You can compare PFM to any other historical prog band worldwide.

Zappaesque but not prog. They are excellent musicians and sometimes joke live with prog covers. You can find their versions of Shine Of You Crazy Diamond and Mike Rutherford's Out into the Daylight on youtube. Anyway, I wouldn't call it prog even if the relation with Zappa is more than evident.

also - i mean no disrespect to the band, but they just don't sound prog. they sound like classic rock. or maybe it's just me having listened to too much DT

Bro wot you're right, this song in particular is classic rock (really good classic rock in my opinion) , they have done some prog rock songs (Pagano, plafone) but they are not a prog rock band

Are EelST extremely talented musicians or are they high-class shameless comedians? Just remove the "or" and you will get one of the rarest gems of the Italian music scene.

Sorry too poppy to my ears, too typical Italian pop elements heard millions times really too many cliches. Singing not special really. Osanna and New Trolls did this kind of stuff better back in the day. Next please.
