It might not look like an island anymore due to the amount of buildings on the side of the bridge. I'm not sure if they created a barrier under the bridge creating two separated bodies of water or not but, if so, it's now become a peninsula, indeed. It might not be so obvious anymore but on its natural landscape, the island, is really an island.
I've left my country a long time ago and never questioned people if the island has artificially become now a peninsula due to all the manmade constructions.
