I saw this tour in Seattle. I LOVED the show and Patrick was so good, I said "I HAVE to play that role!" And...I did. After this tour closed, it went out again as a non-union national tour and I played Billy. So, this show holds a very special place in my heart.
It is so beautiful! I have never seen a production of the show but I fell in love with the 1994 Broadway cast recording. The music and story (no matter how controversial it is) is powerful and brought so much nuance to musicals! Carousel is filled with those Nuances.
Spiderwoman my jaw is dropped!!! I had no idea this even existed - this ranks very highly as one of my all-time favorite revivals. Such great footage and I so miss these 1990’s TV specials that were done for musicals on tour or for those amazing Toronto productions. Thank you so much for posting this Spiderwoman!
🎹 I saw this production when It got to New York City. I will never forget how emotional it was... how much I sobbed... and how much the audience sobbed right along with me. 😢 It was a heartbreaking performance but unforgettable. Thankyou so much for posting this.
Oh how I love this show…and oh how I wish there was somewhere, some how a complete video of this entire production! It is just so brilliant, and the performances so moving. Patrick Wilson omg is powerful, yet touching. Oh thank you so much for providing this, you are a marvel.
another gem from you!!! I saw this production at the National Theatre before it got to NYC. Gorgeous production...and that music and that Carousel Waltz...thanks,,,,
Seems like this was common practice in the 90s when a major nationally known show would come to LA, Beauty, Saigion, and Wizard of Oz had these types of specials too
And to think that Patrick was, what, just 22-23 here? That means he was around my age currently when he did this…wow. Find it hard to believe that this dude will turn 50 next year. And, no, that isn’t a joke. Wow.
Just came across this. What a find --especially w Shirley Jones in it. I saw this production down in Costa Mesa when it went on tour. Didn't realize it started out with Patrick Wilson who is not quite the right type for Bigelow. Wilson is too aesthete; his features and his cut are too refined for the rough, swaggering "bully" that Billy was supposed to be. Sure, Wilson can sing it and I guess that's more important in the theatre than on film but Billy really must contrast with the the more tender, softer character of Julie who does suffer the slings and arrows of fate. Anyway, thanks for posting this.
This production didn't portray Billy as a large, muscular, swaggering "bully" (as you write), but a man-boy deeply in pain that is masked by raw sexuality (more James Dean/Marlon Brando as this video relates). And it worked beautifully.
@@BakingItOnBroadway Eh. That's a poor excuse. Now that I've revisited scenes from the production, I think those sets are dumb. Too busy and calling attention to the themselves. In hindsight, it was an over-rated production even with the cheap gimmick of a black second couple. Don't mess with perfection.
@@mylesgarcia4625 Audra McDonald got the Tony Award for best supporting actress in Carousel. She was beyond race in the role and what you said comes off as racist. I do not agree with your opinion.
Omg seeing Patrick Wilson doing stunning roles at my current age -- his career is non-stop gems!
Who would have thought that eight years later, Patrick Wilson would play Raoul in the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera!

Delighted at your reaction--more opening-night specials (L.A., Toronto, NY, London) to come.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 You’re The Top Spiderwoman!!!
Favorite carousel revival, too
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 always excited to see more from Toronto!!
I was blessed to see the Original Cast at Lincoln Center back in 1995. What an amazing production! I did not get to see the tour.

Dear Aurora did you post this simply to brighten my day!? WHAT A WONDER YOU ARE!!
Indeed I did. And hope you enjoy it.
OMG- I saw him and Jennifer Laura Thompson in Hershey, PA in this tour- what an amazing performance from both
Did not know that JLT took over as Julie; I'm sure she was good.
Fantastic! As always!
I recall that anguished scream after he slapped Louise. It was heartbreaking and powerful.
patrick is a baby here 💙
CAROUSEL 's Carrie and Enoch are comedy relief characters.
I didn’t realize he did this role. What a great choice.
My favourite musical. Off to see open air version in Regents Park, London, later this month. Praying for good weather!
