Omg I love the dentist... not like Bill Murray in Little shop of horrors, but I really respect and enjoy my dentist. They usually ask if I can come in for their student day so the students see someone who genuinely wants to be there. I've even had other dentists try to steal me away

After a tooth abcess you learn to LOVE your regular dentist visit. Nothing better than a life free of insanity inducing levels of pain. Seriously, a world without dentists is literal torture.
I actually live in Lund where these experiments took place. Vipeholm is today turned into a High School that I have briefly worked at, and when you are in the old buildings its hard not to think about the horrific experiements that took place there.
When they say all the sweets you want but only once a week, does that mean there are no sweets, desserts, or say sugar in coffee/tea/hot cocoa except on Saturday?
@joanhuffman2166 Haha no the saturday thing is basically just for candy specifically and mostly just a rule/norm directed at kids. Though I do think it might have a general effect on how we consume sugar, seeing as we eat more candy than the rest of the world but still have better dental health. Its better to eat a lot of sugar once a week than small amounts every day.

I know that Germans usually have a dessert with afternoon coffee, possibly jam with a morning slice of bread & butter, a spoon of sugar with coffee twice a day. But I know little of Swedish customs.
@@joanhuffman2166 dessert isn't commonly eaten in Sweden at all. It's typically only eaten for special occasions, such as when you have guests or are celebrating something. "Fika" is very common though, which is coffee (or tea, or other beverage) with a small bite to to eat, which can be something sweet. The older generations tend to have fika like every afternoon (my parents are in their 70s and afternoon fika is practically sacred) but for younger people, it's usually just plain coffee. Sugar in your coffee is also typically and old people thing. Most people I know drink their coffee black, or with just milk. You might get a mocha or caramel latte whatever if you're having fika with a friend at a coffee shop, but again, that's just occasionally, for everyday, most people make their coffee at home, or at work, and drink it plain. Fika is important at work too, but typically morning fika is more anticipated, and that is usually accompanied by bread rolls and savoury toppings rather than sweets. Most work places will only have sweets for fika for Fridays or if celebrating something. But I also think a big contributing factor to our good dental health is free dental care for all children and yearly checkups. You get taught at a young age that it's important to brush your teeth or your dentist is going to get mad. 😂
I didn’t (couldn’t afford, among other things) go to the dentist for almost 20 years and went last year and had one wisdom tooth pulled (I’m 40!) and 4 fillings. That was tortur! I had to ask them to re inject numbing 4 times and the dentist had to ask 3 other assistants to help him ripp out my wisdom 🦷. I couldn’t speak four two days, mouth was droopy and too numb. And I ate peanut butter and grits and yogurt for about 2 weeks as my mouth healed. That was enough for me to started flossing everyday and chew gum after eating and get an electric toothbrush (Colgate Hum is good) Take care of your teeth people! I was lucky I didn’t have more problems bc when I was in the thick of my drug addiction I went for days without showering and brushing my teeth, nasty I know but when your addict gf doesn’t complain there is little incentive and the drugs numb the sensitivity. Life is much better these days and I have healed physically and mentally and spiritually and taking care of myself!!!
So, I was born(1987) and raised in Sweden. Growing up I had 3 wisdom teeth that the state funded dentist knew was gonna be a problem for me later in life and instead of removing them while I was covered by the state they waited until I turned 18 to tell me that I really should have my wisdom teeth removed. I had gone to the same dentist since I was 6yo. The only reason they waited was to save the municipality money. I would say that swedish dentist has learned nothing about ethics.

I guess answering in Swedish isn't allowed? I'll try giving my response in English, then. By the time you're 18, wisdom teeth have usually not come out yet. I find it amusing that you are painting a picture of your dentist, snickering in the shadows, biding their time to save money for the municipality! I promise, it's more likely that they waited to know for sure that it was going to be a problem. You should have gotten frisktandvård insurance right when you turned 18, it would have been free.

Refined sugar doesn’t directly cause tooth decay the bacteria in your mouth break down sugar into acids that do exactly what you think they it’s any form of sugar refined,raw,fructose it doesn’t matter so brush and floss and it shouldn’t be a problem

The instant a dentist starts poking around in my mouth i start uncontrollably hyperventilating. Then they refuse to work on me. It's a real problem for me as it makes it impossible to get routine work done, i have to be unconscious and they won't do that for minor stuff. And i am not wealthy so can't afford it except for the really big issues every 5 years or so. Its affected my life negatively for decades.
I get really strong anxiety meds for when I go to the dentist. I am unsure if that is an option for you but if possible you could ask a psychiatrist about it.

I was marginally housed when I was a teenager and my teeth paid the price. I have had mostly horrible experiences with dentist since then because they shamed me, made me feel undesirable as a client and over all were pricks. Now I have to be knocked out to go because their cruelty has now made me a fruit cake that has fear of dentist. I feel ridiculous that those peoples behavior has affected me this way, but it has. Dentist really need a training in bedside manner and I wish they all had to do a rotation in a homeless clinic to understand what some people go through.
Man, that sucks. I have family members who've been through almost identical experiences. I don't understand why anybody would get into that line of work if they don't actually want to help people (actually, I'm pretty sure I know why $)

Its not ridiculus. We only have two set of teeth and the mouth is so vulnerable and easyily receptive to pain. My Moms former dentist didnt even wait till the numbin agent was active when starting to pull out the teeth ... when she said that he just said that its impossible whiloe she had to rebutt that he himself said that it takes 5 min to take full effect and he didnt even wait one. I hope you'll find a good one that will take you seriously and accommodate you properly :)
In America, any of us who exist on Medicare/Medicaid only recently had "free dental care" added. I've had a mysterious dental disease since I was little that caused my teeth to slowly decay from the inside-out, which is why I had ALL my teeth extracted over 2yrs, by age 30; If I hadn't, they would have continued to slowly crack & crumble to pieces otherwise. In America, the homeless, prisoners, and disabled/poor are given the same "pull over fix" treatment. I've been so thankful for the masking pandemic, which hit in the middle of my extractions & gave me a reason to cover up my humiliating appearance, which I still do to this day, whenever I go out or am around anyone. I've had a vlog channel for over 10yrs, but I haven't done any on-camera vlogs since then, and my already damaged self-esteem was completely taken out...
Bull. This is simply not true. The poor in the USA have better healthcare than most people that have to pay for their own insurance. Medicaid pays for tooth care unlike most insurance policies. We are supposed to be covered for one free cleaning, each year but as soon as you make that appointment and you’re diagnosed with something like periodontal disease or even gingivitis-if you don’t pay out of pocket for things like scaling, then your cleaning each year is null and void and good luck finding a place to even do that on a sliding scale within two counties of where you live. Welfare recipients do not get free dental. SSISSDI recipients do not get free dental. Regular working moms who aren’t receiving child support do not not get Dental. Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me. Just like you may think that we get eyeglasses, too? Medicare does not pay for dental care. Some gap plans and supplemental plans might cover dental, but the standard, original Medicare does not. Medicaid, which varies from state to state, may or may not cover dental. In the state of AZ, dental is only covered for those 21 or younger.
For anyone ever needing a root canal, know how much pain you’re in, leading to needing that root canal. That’s just 1 tooth causing maddening pain, can you imagine feeling that in every tooth?

Last time I saw a dentist was in July 1987 when in a racing accident @ 155mph I was crashed head on into a concrete retaining wall. I ate the steering wheel and knocked out over 75% of my teeth. The rest were removed so I could eat.
These are what university faculties should present to Bioscience students as case studies in order to teach experimental ethics, instead of one compulsory dry lecture outlining lists of rules that “won’t be on the exam”. (As it was for me) It would actually impress the importance of ethics on the researchers of the future, by showing just how bad it got - instead of a tick box lecture churning out another student cohort with a subtle disdain for ethics as “red tape”.
When I was young, only one dentist in our area took the state insurance my mom had for me and my brother. It was apparently never a good experience, and we stopped going as soon as she found someone else to take us to. Even though I don't remember him at all, the experience still left me with a deep fear of dentists and dental procedures.
Very interesting, and no, didn't know that patients were used in that study. We had regular mouth washing with a florin solution when I was in school, we didn't like it, tasted not good. But we do indeed have better dental health now due to it. Unfortunately, if I understand it correctly, the mouth washing has been discontinued.

Sweden still don't care that much about us disabled people. The folk health authority managed to convince almost the entire population that "masks don't work so why bother." This country hasn't learned anything. Swedes in general are so passive and scared of conflicts, they just obey whatever Folk Health say.Or atleast the folk health one. Less responsibility to handle. Yeah, my husband is a martial arts instructor. He'll shrug off a broken nose, not even see a doctor for cracked ribs, didn't even take the painkillers he was given after he had his gall bladder surgically removed but he pretty much begs for the sweet release of death if he gets a dental abscess. I'm a wuss so I'm pretty thorough with my dental hygiene routine.
This sounds like actual hell, I have untreated teeth with severe cavities(thanks to the impossibility of getting a damn dentist appointment set up for myself) and I can tell you from personal experience that the thought of kys is real because of the agony that is tooth decay
What's really wild is looking at historical death records. Before the mass importation of sugar and sugar cane, very few died from "teeth", after that the numbers skyrocketed. It's just that the connection is so gradual and life spans were not as long, people just didn't see it.
Oddly enough, the only thing that gives me anxiety when visiting my dentist is the bill. I was so spoiled by my active duty benefits that I had no idea how private insurance works. Thank god for my hunny who showed me and takes care of a lot of the paperwork. 🤣👍🤙

I have a friend and his teeth were black at the age of 14 !!! His parents neglected him because of the alcohol problem they had . At the age of 20 all of his teeth were removed. It's really terrible what his parents did to him or rather what they didn't do when he was just a kid...😢

thanks to my dentist i had one tooth go black chip and i had to get it pulled out, then i had another tooth he dug a hole into filled it then the metal came out it chipped then half to tooth came out, i also had a shive after he pulled my tooth and instead of pulling it out he was cutting it down and it hurt like hell i haven't been back to the dentist in 5 years

Without getting into the 1½ hours of nightmarish torture. I developed a fear of dentist and did not go to a dentist for 6 years. Until I had to go because of a terrible toothache, and then I met my new dentist. 10-15 minutes in the chair with him explaining every single step, and how gentle and honest he was feeding me information about the procedure. I was totally cured of any fear. So do some research and find a pationate, professional and empathic dentist. It will literary change your life
This is terrible and it didn't even happen in America! I was going to say how surprised I am it was Europe, but then remembered it was in the 1940's and other bad stuff happened in Europe in the 1940's. I am now impressed with modern Europe even more. America has not changed much.

What I didn't like about going to the dentist was how uncomfortable the process to take X-rays of your teeth was it is now way less uncomfortable at the dentist office I go to

I love the dentist - and I've had plates and braces. I feel amazing after seeing the dental hygienist, and despite being scared of needles, I didn't even notice when the dentist gave me a filling. I've been lucky in regards to dental experiences lol I'm not an 'anti-denti' 😏
My Mom was very frightened of the dentist, but was careful not to let it show to me. I had a couple if stressful experiences, but overall have no problems.
You mention experiment on the peoples of the US by the government. While I am aware of some of these experiments, mostly by the military on military personal, I would love to hear more. Are these available or are they in the works?
And, let's not forget that sugar is a neuro toxin as well. These poor people were basically poisoned as well. We don't consider it that way, because sugar is everywhere. But if seen for what it is, they were poisoned.

I’ve never had a cavity and never had wisdom teeth. Very lucky. I’m convinced dental floss destroys your teeth by wearing away the enamel. I’ve never used dental floss. I do however use a water pick and I drink lots of water.
I was very sick as infant, and as a result my teeth have no enamel on them. Long story short ive been to the dentists hundreds of times, cavaties root canals and crowns were just a part of life. Nowadays all my teeth are CEREC crowns. It was the price of a BMW (a nice one) but i dont get cavaties anymore 😂
Toothaches are no joke! For anyone who's experienced one, they understand. It's a pain like no other! I know women who have stated that toothaches can be more painful than child birth. I, for one, can testify that toothaches are unimaginably painful. Please do yourself a favor, and take good care of your teeth.

I am over 80, had good regular dental care since 1966, at age 22, as I was in college and USAir Force ROTC to be an officer. I first required remedial dental work, and today have all my teeth, except for a rear wisdom tooth, and of course fillings and crowns. Success. 😅

Let this be a reminder of how little Sweden care about disabled people. So, I was born(1987) and raised in Sweden. Growing up I had 3 wisdom teeth that the state funded dentist knew was gonna be a problem for me later in life and instead of removing them while I was covered by the state they waited until I turned 18 to tell me that I really should have my wisdom teeth removed. I had gone to the same dentist since I was 6yo. The only reason they waited was to save the municipality money.
I would say that swedish dentist has learned nothing about ethics.

What were the precise recommendations made for dental health. Do "all the sweets you want but only once a week" mean no jam, cake, dessert, sugar in coffee or tea? No one shares the rules outside of Sweden or the Swedish language. Are there limits on starchy foods too?

The instant a dentist starts poking around in my mouth i start uncontrollably hyperventilating. Then they refuse to work on me. It's a real problem for me as it makes it impossible to get routine work done, i have to be unconscious and they won't do that for minor stuff. And i am not wealthy so can't afford it except for the really big issues every 5 years or so. Its affected my life negatively for decades.
I get really strong anxiety meds for when I go to the dentist. I am unsure if that is an option for you but if possible you could ask a psychiatrist about it.

I was marginally housed when I was a teenager and my teeth paid the price. I have had mostly horrible experiences with dentist since then because they shamed me, made me feel undesirable as a client and over all were pricks. Now I have to be knocked out to go because their cruelty has now made me a fruit cake that has fear of dentist. I feel ridiculous that those peoples behavior has affected me this way, but it has. Dentist really need a training in bedside manner and I wish they all had to do a rotation in a homeless clinic to understand what some people go through.

Its not ridiculus. We only have two set of teeth and the mouth is so vulnerable and easyily receptive to pain. My Moms former dentist didnt even wait till the numbin agent was active when starting to pull out the teeth ... when she said that he just said that its impossible whiloe she had to rebutt that he himself said that it takes 5 min to take full effect and he didnt even wait one. I hope you'll find a good one that will take you seriously and accommodate you properly :)

In America, any of us who exist on Medicare/Medicaid only recently had "free dental care" added. I've had a mysterious dental disease since I was little that caused my teeth to slowly decay from the inside-out, which is why I had ALL my teeth extracted over 2yrs, by age 30; If I hadn't, they would have continued to slowly crack & crumble to pieces otherwise.
In America, the homeless, prisoners, and disabled/poor are given the same "pull over fix" treatment. I've been so thankful for the masking pandemic, which hit in the middle of my extractions & gave me a reason to cover up my humiliating appearance, which I still do to this day, whenever I go out or am around anyone.

Medicare does not pay for dental care. Some gap plans and supplemental plans might cover dental, but the standard, original Medicare does not. Medicaid, which varies from state to state, may or may not cover dental. In the state of AZ, dental is only covered for those 21 or younger.
For anyone ever needing a root canal, know how much pain you’re in, leading to needing that root canal. That’s just 1 tooth causing maddening pain, can you imagine feeling that in every tooth?

When I was young, only one dentist in our area took the state insurance my mom had for me and my brother. It was apparently never a good experience, and we stopped going as soon as she found someone else to take us to. Even though I don't remember him at all, the experience still left me with a deep fear of dentists and dental procedures.

Very interesting, and no, didn't know that patients were used in that study. We had regular mouth washing with a florin solution when I was in school, we didn't like it, tasted not good. But we do indeed have better dental health now due to it. Unfortunately, if I understand it correctly, the mouth washing has been discontinued.

Yeah, my husband is a martial arts instructor. He'll shrug off a broken nose, not even see a doctor for cracked ribs, didn't even take the painkillers he was given after he had his gall bladder surgically removed but he pretty much begs for the sweet release of death if he gets a dental abscess. I'm a wuss so I'm pretty thorough with my dental hygiene routine.
This sounds like actual hell, I have untreated teeth with severe cavities(thanks to the impossibility of getting a damn dentist appointment set up for myself) and I can tell you from personal experience that the thought of kys is real because of the agony that is tooth decay
What's really wild is looking at historical death records. Before the mass importation of sugar and sugar cane, very few died from "teeth", after that the numbers skyrocketed. It's just that the connection is so gradual and life spans were not as long, people just didn't see it.

thanks to my dentist i had one tooth go black chip and i had to get it pulled out, then i had another tooth he dug a hole into filled it then the metal came out it chipped then half to tooth came out, i also had a shive after he pulled my tooth and instead of pulling it out he was cutting it down and it hurt like hell i haven't been back to the dentist in 5 years

Until I had to go because of a terrible toothache, and then I met my new dentist.
10-15 minutes in the chair with him explaining every single step, and how gentle and honest he was feeding me information about the procedure.
I was totally cured of any fear.
So do some research and find a pationate, professional and empathic dentist.

I love the dentist - and I've had plates and braces. I feel amazing after seeing the dental hygienist, and despite being scared of needles, I didn't even notice when the dentist gave me a filling. I've been lucky in regards to dental experiences lol I'm not an 'anti-denti' 😏
My Mom was very frightened of the dentist, but was careful not to let it show to me. I had a couple if stressful experiences, but overall have no problems.

I’ve never had a cavity and never had wisdom teeth. Very lucky. I’m convinced dental floss destroys your teeth by wearing away the enamel. I’ve never used dental floss. I do however use a water pick and I drink lots of water.

I was very sick as infant, and as a result my teeth have no enamel on them. Long story short ive been to the dentists hundreds of times, cavaties root canals and crowns were just a part of life. Nowadays all my teeth are CEREC crowns. It was the price of a BMW (a nice one) but i dont get cavaties anymore 😂
Toothaches are no joke! For anyone who's experienced one, they understand. It's a pain like no other! I know women who have stated that toothaches can be more painful than child birth. I, for one, can testify that toothaches are unimaginably painful.
