I agree Clyde. Few people are as genuine as Mike. Im in self Isolation here in Canada as well and Ive come to really respect him quickly as a result of his genuine character and what I learn through the shows. Hes first class!!
When you go far into the forest, when your phone is silent, it does not catch the signal, and the sleeping bag on the foam replaces your favorite bed! When your dinner is boiling in a black pot on a hot fire, and all your clothes are soaked through with smoke. You forget about all your problems, they simply do not exist, there is you and the silence of the forest! The silence from which is muffling. Your senses sharpen as you hear the wind, the rustle of grass, and leaves. The creaking of the trunks. At this moment, you feel that you are alive, you are alive now, you listen to your breath, your heart, Nothing can replace these feelings. You are cleansed of all that weighed on you yesterday. Just you and nature. And you're on your own. You're alive now, and that's all that matters. For this we go to the forest. To experience it, over and over again. Those who have experienced it will understand. Those who have not experienced it, still have everything ahead of them. Thank you for giving me this feeling. Thank you for making such content that attracts people to put on a backpack and go to wander along the forest path, your work makes people really happy. 👍My channel on You Tube is just starting to take shape. If you don't mind, please put a few likes and a couple of short comments.
Brilliant writing with truths interwoven amongst the words; you truly capture, at least in part, what this channel is all about!! Good luck with your new channel and maintain that positive, upbeat spirit and enthusiasm, my friend!!!! Thank you!!!
That’s what I love about you, Mike. Your determination and never give up attitude encourages me to keep trying, no matter how ridiculous my goal may appear to be. See you in the snowfields!
Hey Mike! I've been watching and dropping the occasional comment for well over a year now - usually praising the leaps and bounds you take in production levels! Something I've neglected to say is just how much your videos help me, personally. I experience fairly decent anxiety that leads to depression. Watching your videos really helps. Not only are you a lovely chap with a warm and positive energy, you remind me of how healing it is to be in the wilderness. Swinging a sharp axe is better than any medication! Your videos capture the spirit of outdoors in a way that allows us, as viewers, to connect with it. That takes a special talent, and love and respect for the outdoors on your part. Thank you, Mike. Love to yourself, Graham, Jaxx, the Mrs, and all the fam!
Good stuff. I've never been big on anxiety. Think I've had some years of depression struggles. God found me and is helping me through. Seel Jesus. He's got the good healing ha. God bless you in Jesus' name.
Loved it mate…and watched it to the end! I have been ploughing through your videos over the last couple of weeks, one of my favourite channels on UA-cam! Hopefully in 2023 they are more of these 3 day excursions in the wilderness 👌🏻
Great job Mike. You are the only UA-camr I know of that I can watch 23 minutes of video with no music or talking and be totally entertained. You and your dad have inspired me to build a pallet wood cabin. My son is helping me with it and the time together is great! Thank you so much for the inspiration. I'm putting the build up on UA-cam as I do it, If you get time to watch it I would appreciate any advice you would have.
For some time now, it began to seem to me that this forest is ultimately part of my “I”. I wandered within myself. Just like blood circulates through blood vessels. It turns out that I saw my own inner world in front of me, and what looked menacing in my eyes, in fact, was an echo of the fears that had settled in me. The web that entangles me is the web of spiders spread in my heart. And the birds that chirp overhead are raised by me. These are the images that were born and took root in my head.
I really enjoyed watching and listening to you. It's like having a conversation with a mate so it's dead relaxed and no pretentiousness. Well done, stay true to who you are because that's why it works.
I never had much success with a bow drill over my years of (summer) camping. Few of the many who have tried have found the patience and the skill and the fiddly circumstances necessary to make a lasting ember. Cold and damp make it that much more difficult to raise wood dust temperature by friction. That is just one of the ways in which this has been a great 'teaching' video. I am impressed and surprised by the serious shelter those two ponchos provide in cold conditions. The G stove is so well designed and sturdy that it is truly photogenic. Thanks for showcasing the heating and cooking capabilities of the small-sized stove. In that regard, the egg-cooking demonstration on the third morning was absolutely necessary. The pan you used also deserves a 'shout out' for the eggs not sticking or burning.
Good trick for better insulation, while still allowing ventilation for gas build up, is to pile leaves along the outside bottom of the tent, effectively "sealing" the tent base. The leaves will act as a barrier against wind and snow, while not blocking the transfer of fresh air. This will allow a smaller fire to maintain in the stove. American Plains Indians, who used portable housing (the ubiquitous TeePee), piled dirt or sand around the base to fully seal off weather. An inner liner kept an open space between the tent wall, and the living area, creating a draft effect that kept stale air and smoke rising to the open vent in the top of structure. Fresh air was controlled by how open the access flap was kept. A small fire pit in the center radiated heat to keep the TeePee warm, and also created the upward draft that kept the inner area smoke free.
The fire reflector is such a helpful implement that I would actually build a 3-sided one, with the two sides at a wide angle. Could make a big difference if you wanted to be outside more and get some heat from a bigger fire.
This makes me happy, thanks for taking the time to make these quality videos. It’s honestly inspired me to build a little cabin in my nearby forrest to give me an escape from the chaos that is school right now.
Great move posting the attempts that do not work. It shows that it's a practice and even you are still working on it. I think it is mostly about enjoying the attempts and the process.
I've been watching your channel non-stop while in self-isolation. Amazing talent and respect for nature. From some of your other videos, I absolutely agree: learn our ancestors' knowledge so we can pass it down. Difficult times right now, but all the more reason it's good for everyone to practice self reliance and be able to work with your hands.

I'm in my 60s, and use a cane some. My dog & I pack a wagon or sled which I pull at about average 70 lbs. I like lots of comfort and that weighs alot more than a pack. We are spoiled. Best wishes.
This was lovely to watch! A few quick tip from Northern Norway: Eat more! Your body burns a ton of calories to keep you warm. You'd probably be less cold and tired if you did :) And when you wake up with snow on your canvas, beat it off (from the inside) before firing up the stove. When you leave the snow on the canvas and heat it up, it melts in large quantities and seeps into the fabric as it runs down. When you beat it off first, it can' melt and make your canvas wet (for then to be dried by the fire) because it's on the ground already! :D
This is why I like watching your videos sir...my dad never taught me any bushcraft ,camping, or fishing. But I do wanna teach these kinda things to my boys. So I learn so I can teach...thank you for your knowledge...ill keep watching.

Hey Mike just stumbled on your platform. Great video. Took me back to days when I used to winter camp like 47 years ago. No such thing called bush craft back then. We called it survival training. Food, water, fire, hygiene and sanity is all you really need plus God!
Hello from Canada. You have a great set up and knowledge of the outdoors. All you need is a minus 30 sleeping bag and long Johns and you would fit right in with our Canadian winters. Cheers my backcountry friend.
First time we have had snow like this in the South of England for at least 5 or 6 years - I had to make the most of it! It was a bitter Easterly wind and snow front that came over from Siberia. British Press named it "The Beast from the East" haha!! Hope you enjoy - Mike
The odd cackle of a bird but other than that lovely quiet & peaceful environment, now and again a movement or rustle of a human, I too hope you get a real awesome drop of snow. Hey T.A. a great rendition of common sense about the weather. I love that stove good size & easy to maintain & to keep hot. What could be lovely for a quick meal is sachets that are creamy cheese with pasta & made with water & butter, you can add other food & you can keep half of it back for later, very filling. Easy to transport around Cool video.
Canadian winter camping tips: To seal-off the bottom of your shelter/tent and keep cold from drafting in, pack snow over the ends of your tent. even if the snow melts and freezes back into ice, it can't freeze through enough to seriously effect the malleability of the material. Instead of packing a stove for a small shelter, consider packing a gas lantern. it won't warm the shelter up as /much/ but it'll give you a good ten degree difference in temperature [which is enough with the right sleeping equipment] , be easier to stow in a pack, and also serve dual purpose as a light source both in and out of your shelter. also, with a lantern, carbon monoxide poisoning is much less of a concern.
Hey bud I enjoy your videos! Didn't think I would be watching someone camp ever but I appreciate that your honest and up front with how things work, in regards to your life. I think it's legit that you talk about the stove deal you have coming up and how it impacts you financially. Glad you don't dirty up the message. Y worrying about being "p.c". Any way I started watching as a result of your calab with Steele and I will continue!
Really enjoy your camp outs. I used to go all the time with the family, but due to terminal cancer, I can no longer go. So your videos are very cathartic for me, almost like being there. Thanks
True, but with non-stop snow every year, it justifies spending money and effort on preparing for it. In the South of the UK, it's easier to put up with a minor inconvenience once every 5 years. Here it's more wind chill and the wet which is the problem. I teach Polish students who laugh at the small amount of snow, yet moan about how cold they are here.
Mike I really enjoy your channel. I’m originally from Wales 🏴 but now live in Australia 🇦🇺 I wish I had of done a lot more things with my dad like you do with yours but I certainly do teach my son bushcraft and how to live with the world around us here. If ever you guys fancy an Australian adventure you are very welcome at ours anytime. Keep it up and all the very best. Rhys. 🤘🏻
I've been watching you for 3 years or so... you're going to be 1 million subs very soon, congratulations! I am disabled so i watch you, Lilly and Joe mostly. God bless you all! I'd like you 3 mostly because there's no bull.
Quite a while since the video was uploaded I know but, I was filled with envy 😅.... When that passed, a longing to be the person in that situation. I love the coolest weather and isolated conditions. Limited gear with effort and know how, that I think could be achieved by many individuals is producing a surreal experience! I was so into this video, that I realised I was getting cold 🥶! Thanks for the experience 🤗🇦🇺
My dog and I pull a wagon or kids sled, depending on weather. Heck with that backpack thing. We pack lots of gear easy because I don't carry it. Lots of these guys are fake on U Tube. I don't know about this guy.
It's been nice watching you use the GStove since you unpacked it and later used at the cabin and now here in your over-nighter. I've been impressed with it, and to see it still holding up and you still loving it has sold me on it. Love your videos and thanks!

Hey Mike. Seeing a lot of "dollar store challenges" from the guys over the pond and wondered whether you would consider a "Poundland challenge"? I personally would love to see that. Heck I'd love to try it myself lol
You are an absolute Inspiration man! I appreciate your videos very much. I live in Northern Alberta Canada and I plan on/am making preperations to wander off into the woods and live of the land with as little outside help as possible. - At the end of the year, winter, heavy snow season, I love to go camping under the snow is falling. Sitting in the tent, eating, drinking hot tea, watching the white snow everywhere, my heart feels very excited and relaxed. Dec, 17 - 2020.
I almost didn't even watch this, but now I'm subbed. Thought "Ok, I don't think I want to watch an hour long video if he's not going to talk at all." Made it to 10 minutes, thought "I wonder what he's making here?" By the time I saw the bacon going into the pan I thought "Ok I don't care if he doesn't talk at all, I'm watching this whole thing." Less than 5 minutes later my first thought was "I could've swore this guy was going to be Canadian!!" Great video dude, can't wait to check out more of your stuff
I really enjoyed this man I actually watched the whole video lol You taught me a lot. And this is officially the longest video on UA-cam I’ve ever watched lol that being said I’ll always remember this specific video. Oh yea, and I subscribed 👍
I really enjoy these type of videos, reminds me of my years camping in winter and summer with my scout troop. Just a tad cold here in Canada. Basically the same principles but we had more equipment. Your stove would have made everything easier for me but we had fun and every trip has a learning curve and new things/wildlife to observe. Very good video thank you 👍
As far as a lightweight canvas protector for the stove-pipe, I recommend looking into thermal heatwrap for automotive applications. We use it to cover the header tubes directly from engine head exhaust ports - great stuff, wraps up almost like boxing hand wraps.
Michael Kelly hi Michael I’m looking into that but will it protect my canvas tent that’s the question and how much should I wrap around the pipe to stop it from burning my tent it would help if you gave me some tips Many thank👍🏻👍🏻
@@patrickschoenpflug They have a lot of options, but if you were to wrap the stove pipe twice with even lower quality thinner stuff, that would provide I believe more than enough insulation.
Nice to see a spark arrestor. I'm a big believer in them. My young daughter first saw snow in York - we're from South Texas, USA. No camping, but I took the train up to Inverness and stood on the shore. Beautiful, dramatic. UK at it's best. I was working in Peterboro. at the time. Christmas in London.
I own a 1966 pup tent that I bought NOS from a dealer who got it from the US government back in 1986. ! It's a serious bit of kit !! Can't wait to get it broken in on my 2024 camping trip ! Great video by the way !!✌
This one of those videos that is long as hell, but man, I never stopped watching till the end. This video actually opened my eyes to real survival and the tools. Been spending my time trying to buy these camping pop-up tents and all the extra goodies to live in the wild...LOL!!! What a waste of money. They're only good for a jaunt into the wild for a few days, maybe weeks. Forget all that. Spend your money on quality tools that will actually help you survive in the wilderness. KUDOS to you for sharing.

I live in Canada too, I don't have the courage to do it myself in the first time because I was born in a temperate country
What do you recommend ?
Nice video mate, thanks for taking the time to do them. Loving the channel. Keep em coming mate
Cheers Ted
Yes so will i
Really enjoy your camp outs. I used to go all the time with the family, but due to terminal cancer, I can no longer go. So your videos are very cathartic for me, almost like being there. Thanks
I didn't realize England was so mild, makes me jealous being in Canada with our nonstop snow once winter hits
Omg yes I live in Canada and there’s to much snow
we only get snow every few years this year it snowed for a hour aha in England bristol

I’m originally from Wales 🏴 but now live in Australia 🇦🇺
I wish I had of done a lot more things with my dad like you do with yours but I certainly do teach my son bushcraft and how to live with the world around us here.
If ever you guys fancy an Australian adventure you are very welcome at ours anytime. Keep it up and all the very best. Rhys. 🤘🏻
BwlBoy thanks Rhys!!
U people are really lucky. Enjoing like this is many of our dream.
I've been watching you for 3 years or so... you're going to be 1 million subs very soon, congratulations! I am disabled so i watch you, Lilly and Joe mostly. God bless you all!
I'd like you 3 mostly because there's no bull.
Me too. Its almost as being there. It relaxes me before bed and i can dream tht i too am in the woods.
I am disabled too. Miss camping and love seeing outdoor videos.
This year will be my 3rd time camping. Your videos have taught me so much. Thank you!
AMAZING GUY!
I loved to imagine, the man who can do in 3days. So others can do happily the survival.
Try to live for 50$ month. May be after you will understand what is real survive.
Amazing, loved the silent start. No wonder this one got millions of views. Watched to the end.
Good camper, he utilized the dead trees rather than cutting the growing trees..molto bravo🎈🙏🎈
Yes, and dead trees are typically drier. Unless they are rotten. A fresh birch is easily up to 50% moisture.
AMO ESSES VÍDEOS, APRENDO MUITOS COM ELES, OBRIGADA AMIGO.
Thank you for making these. I enjoyed watching. Nice to see snow in Southern England. I wish you all the best.
Great video! Gotta love that birch. Thanks to my brothers across the seas for the interesting and always informative vids.
He's fake.
He didn't pack anywhere.
His truck is right off camera.
My dog and I pull a wagon or kids sled, depending on weather. Heck with that backpack thing. We pack lots of gear easy because I don't carry it. Lots of these guys are fake on U Tube. I don't know about this guy.
"This ain't no light-weight backpacking trip. This is food and beer." I'll camp with you any time, mate.
It's been nice watching you use the GStove since you unpacked it and later used at the cabin and now here in your over-nighter. I've been impressed with it, and to see it still holding up and you still loving it has sold me on it. Love your videos and thanks!
This was so relaxing to have on in the background!
I’ve got to give you some love man, really appreciate you keeping it real on the Bodrill, it’s refreshing
your vids have inspired me to do my own bushcraft and more camping keep up the good work
Good to hear Markus
Dude! You’re living the dream!
I’ve seen 5 or 6 of your videos. Nothing like roughin it! Keep it up! God bless!
Fascination makes me stay watching. Thank you!
My favorite of the videos you make, are always going to be your overnighters. I like to see what little tips and tricks you use while camping. I am going camping this summer for our honeymoon and I hope to use a lot of the tips and trick while camping.
You left your camera! Great video, that setup looked totally awesome 👍
Hi, I like this type of video much better than the ones you do with your stressed dad.
When you are alone, you feel calmer.
Great video
Thank you.
From Washington DC
I came across this channel by accident and I'm into the third video in a row now, watching for 1.5 hrs.
Props for the great content!!!
Hey Mike. Seeing a lot of "dollar store challenges" from the guys over the pond and wondered whether you would consider a "Poundland challenge"?
I personally would love to see that. Heck I'd love to try it myself lol
Way to go young man!! You are a true survivor.
You are an absolute Inspiration man! I appreciate your videos very much. I live in Northern Alberta Canada and I plan on/am making preperations to wander off into the woods and live of the land with as little outside help as possible. I am gaining an amazing amount of knowledge from your videos and I hopefully will be as successful as you. I will be breaking down and buying a gstove, as they are absolutely brilliant. I wi be sure to use your link. Thanks so much for everything you share with us. Stay safe, and take care.
I think alberta will be a bit colder than the uk! Will you change anything (with the colder conditions)?
every video i have watched of yours I have watched start to finish. I love them, keep 'em coming!
- At the end of the year, winter, heavy snow season, I love to go camping under the snow is falling. Sitting in the tent, eating, drinking hot tea, watching the white snow everywhere, my heart feels very excited and relaxed.
Dec, 17 - 2020.
Another great video Mike, looking forward to the next one already.
This is my favorite video to watch when I am relaxing.
Marques Entzminger me too!
salam
I almost didn't even watch this, but now I'm subbed. Thought "Ok, I don't think I want to watch an hour long video if he's not going to talk at all." Made it to 10 minutes, thought "I wonder what he's making here?" By the time I saw the bacon going into the pan I thought "Ok I don't care if he doesn't talk at all, I'm watching this whole thing."
Less than 5 minutes later my first thought was "I could've swore this guy was going to be Canadian!!"
Great video dude, can't wait to check out more of your stuff
My favourite Video from you. Like a talk show in the woods about topics of interest.
that shot of the robin next to the heatchet would make an amazing winter time mug.
Very good video thank you 👍
awesom thanks for sharing
Man oh man, that sizzling sound and that food, I bet it’s beyond delicious. Yes you got new fan @TA outdoors
Cheers!

Love the outdoors s stay safe think safe. Stay well
I’m so glad your channel is doing so
well, you deserve it, it’s superb! 👍🏻
As far as a lightweight canvas protector for the stove-pipe, I recommend looking into thermal heatwrap for automotive applications. We use it to cover the header tubes directly from engine head exhaust ports - great stuff, wraps up almost like boxing hand wraps.
Michael Kelly hi Michael I’m looking into that but will it protect my canvas tent that’s the question and how much should I wrap around the pipe to stop it from burning my tent it would help if you gave me some tips
Many thank👍🏻👍🏻
@@patrickschoenpflug They have a lot of options, but if you were to wrap the stove pipe twice with even lower quality thinner stuff, that would provide I believe more than enough insulation.
@@patrickschoenpflug I would recommend testing first if you're going to be in a mission:critical state on the outing.
Thanks for the advice I will test it out but I believe it will work thanks again Michael 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@patrickschoenpflug My pleasure! Keep up the great work!
Estupendo video,
Nice to see a spark arrestor. I'm a big believer in them. My young daughter first saw snow in York - we're from South Texas, USA. No camping, but I took the train up to Inverness and stood on the shore. Beautiful, dramatic. UK at it's best. I was working in Peterboro. at the time. Christmas in London.
Another superb episode Mike,..will definitely be interested in the G stove swag...looking forward to your next video already...
Maybe you can rent from Viking. They build a great shelter. Their first one is almost finished.
Very enjoyable, love the stove. Well done sir.
I own a 1966 pup tent that I bought NOS from a dealer who got it from the US government back in 1986. ! It's a serious bit of kit !! Can't wait to get it broken in on my 2024 camping trip ! Great video by the way !!✌
Lugar fantástico esses homéns são incríveis.
You have an awesome setup TA, basics uses, your stove is something else. wow.
I Love it realy the nature to control your Self . The true desiplin human

Parabéns! Você fez as coisas mais simples e eficazes!
Dramatic intro!!! Point well delivered!!! Cheers!! ✝️🙏✌️😎👍🪅🥂🎉🎊🥳🎆❄️🍾
