is it just me, or does he never use the plastic spacers or say where they go. Yet he keeps re-referring to them as the thing that enables this set up to work.
I've actually never had a Noctua cooler myself, but I used them in a lot of builds for family and friends, and people I sold PCs to. Never saw any complains, and god, are they silent. Always love to see when companies do cool things.
From my experience even the slightest crack on the die will cause issues that sometimes are not obvious or instant. I worked at a tech company that refurbished laptops, and correct placement of the heatsink was very important, a slight misalignment and the tiniest crack that's visible only under high magnification could cause issues like random freezes, blue screens, crashes etc. The bad thing is that sometimes this doesn't happen right away after assembling the heatsink, the device may seem that it's functioning. So if you get issues after cleaning your unprotected (without IHS) cpu or gpu and you get normal temperatures, you probably damaged your dies. I definitely recommend the protective frame at all costs, since this is a very expensive damage, and you get no warranty whatsoever.
I'm wondering if you could use something like the Honeywell PTM 7950 phase change material pads instead? Those work almost as well as liquid metal under direct die conditions...
Since the hot spot goes left to right, wouldn't it be optimal to rotate the cooler 90°, to get even heat load on all the heatpipes? Of course you'd probably need to change the airflow from front to back to bottom to top (and use a gpu riser cable so it does not obstruct air flow) to benifit from this.
I’m very happy about these announcements, except for the fact that I just bought an NH-D15 and, well, it’s the six-pipe one with the “old” fans and all that. Might look into the offset brackets for AM5, but it would be cool if Noctua offered an “upgrade kit” for both components together
Still running my NH-D14. Originally bought for an Intel 2500k, then a 6600k, now on a Ryzen 5600x. This is the best piece of Computer Hardware I ever bought.
The real funny thing about "delidded" cpu's is that they were actually officially produced for some time in the early 2000's. AMD came from the lidded K6-3 to the delidded Athlon T-bird and went back to lidded with the Athlon 64. Intel came from the slotted Pentium 2 to the delidded Pentium 3 and back to the lidded Pentium 4. Bottom line, I actually broke a duron and a t-bird thanks to their mounting system and the delidded cpu's. They were actually RMA'd without any question when the reason was the mounting. Funny how things evolve over time. I guess both Intel and AMD learned their lesson back in the day. But man ... I still recall the first cpu's water blocks were made during that era. Overcloking went crazy because of both delidded cpu's and water blocks. And unlocking the T-bird with a pencil now seems like a joke but it was damn fun back then XD
I appreciate the intkformation on novelty tech. It's a bit hard to digest though, because it's all over the place, going from one interesting bit of kit, and information pretty damn fast.

I got a NH-D15 SE-AM4 on my AMD 1800x and ASUS C6H and that thing has ran like SMOOTH Butter since DAY 1 ! My STRIX RX480 makes more noise WHEN it winds up,in games, and only 50% of the time. My Power Supply NEVER RUNS during operation, only a check spin on start-up. If you curious,it's a Corsair AX1500i, BAD A$$ and VERY efficient !
But that NEW chunk of SWEET metal when i 1rst saw it,made my heart drop to the floor ! DAM I WANT IT !! That WILL be on my next 7000XTX build ! It was JUST what i was hoping for, then they made it ! THANKS NOCTUA, DE BAUER, & THERMAL GRIZZLY ! This Combo is the SNITZ !! 😎
Shocks me that a lot of people hate Noctua color scheme. I think it looks sooo good. Has a rustic/wood look. Love it. That screwdriver looks so good!
Noctua has black stuff too...
I also kind of like the distinct look but it doesn't match well with color schemes on modern gaming PCs with all the rainbow rgbs etc. They usually stand out a lot since nothing really matches it. But the all Noctua pc Linus built looked really great since those parts actually matched and that's most people's problem. I think the look is fine on its own
I dont know what it is, but i quite enjoy the ambiance of the crowd in the background. Tickles me brain
Just have to say since the announcement, the jovial and more carefree Linus is showing through more and more in each video again. Astounding what stress does to us, keep up the solid work Linus and Co
The videos are on about a 2 week backlog or so if I recall correctly from an older video, so most of these are probably still from before the announcement. The exception being event videos they want out quicker so this one very well might be fairly new.
I feel like you are referring to it being good that he's no longer CEO. :)
@5:44 Is that a Noctua colored LTT screwdriver? 🤯
Yes
Linus drop tips never fails to keep us updated with all these videos!
OH man that was so funny. Linus DROP tips? hahahhaa I can't believe no one has ever said that before.
I NEED THIS SCREWDRIVER AT 5:39 SO NOCTUA
The fact they provided STL files says alot about the company +1
Great company. glad to hear about thier products always
as someone that STILL uses a nocua NH-C14, the original one rather than the S... noctua have been nothing but an absolute charm to work with as 2 times now ive changed mounting types and they fully shipped a new set of brackets 100% free.
that cooler still rivals the AIOs we got today and man, i honestly couldnt see myself buying a new cooler that isnt a noctua. the worry free nature of not having a pump failure is really nice.
People complain about Noctua’s prices, but what other company will send you a free mounting kit adapter with free shipping for a heat sink you bought almost 20 years ago? I’m willing to pay the Noctua premium because I know I’m going to get quality and that I’m going to be taken care of.
@@guspaz the site i ordered it from doesnt even exist anymore, just to give yah an idea.
relatively, noctua isnt even that much more expensive, paid 89 usd for the cooler when aios at the time were $150+no future support.
though im not married to any brand, theyve been more than gracious and the product quality is really unmatched.
@@juliappoki i live in br. you more than likely didnt have all the receipts, or didnt register your product for warranty.
because every time ive needed it, theyve provided it with no charge or even any further questioning than their support form.
@@KareemFloat Gosh I kind of feel like an idiot now lol. I did have all the receipts, but you're right, I didn't register it for warranty.
Thing is, I actually don't ever expect a company to do something like that, so I didn't give it much thought. I had no idea they did that. Oh well... learning something new every day, now I know what to do in the future. Thanks for the heads-up!
@@juliappoki They ship the free mounting kits to Brazil too? I don't see any mention of a limitation on shipping to Brazil on their page for the LGA1700 adapter for example.
4:14 is that a Noctua themed LTT Screwdriver?
love the noctua screwdriver!
Noctua LTT Screwdriver? Lets goooo.
It actually looks nice and calm, almost gives a warm feeling
The Liquid Freezer 2 has an offset mount and it works incredibly well.
I bought a Noctua cooler a couple of months ago, and as soon as I opened the box and picked up the product, I could feel the quality. I will not hesitate to pay the premium again.
After CES2023 materials being pretty dull (not your fault, there wasn't much to show there really) I was afraid this Computex week would be pretty boring. But this event keeps on giving and your materials done out-of-studio are absolutely amazing! Great job guys! (and don't forget to take some rest after coming back to Canada)
you and GN are killing it tbh, loving the coverage
also i understood the heat-flux density part, noctua give me a job pls
i do feel like noctua should make a pc case with only noctua stuff inside, i just love their colour and i totally loved the noctua built was made here a few months ago
That intro is amazing I love the "20 degrees?" double take
Hey linus! I love your videos! I wonder what CPU's warranty will be destroyed next?🤔
The days of risking expensive hardware for a small performance bump are behind me. I’ve had to many problems over the years, and hardware costs double what it used to. I’m happy with what performance I can get with minimal risk.
Wow last time I was this early Linus was climbing a tree for his watercooling setup
Last time I was this early he was still the CEO.
Last time I was this early, he was making "cleanest" setup.
As much as I poke fun at you Linus, you rock! And you make really, really good videos. Love your stuff dude! Without your channel UA-cam wouldn't be the same.
We all love noctua, perfection, just perfection
Nice that der Bauer is an video from you! I´m a german and watch his videos on his german channel
Warranties were voided, coolers were dropped.
Hope you guys are enjoying your time in taipei!
Someone at AMD skipped day one of Heat Spreading 101: Spread the Heat Out.
u do realize the 3° u lose from moving the CCD's to a very slightly unoptimal position for thermals, is far out weigh by what they can achieve my moving those CCD's down there right ?
@@Inquisite1031 OK, explain please.
@@kjrehberg there are tons of documents and videos, that can tell u the advantages of the chiplet design AMD has gone for, and why the layout of their CPU is the way it is, feel free to educate urself.
@@Inquisite1031 I asked you to explain, not tell me to "educate urself[sic]."
Arctic liquid freezr iii has the offset many years now. And used it to offset the cooler on the 7600x.
Glad to see more have a offset now
linus holding a motherboard with one hand while pressing onto the die of the cpu with his finger is something I can't even find words for.
LOVE the Notcua themed LTT Screwdriver!
I look forward to when Linus uploads
@4:12 is that a noctua colored ltt screwdriver?
They were talking about it on WAN show couple weeks ago.
Just here to say that Noctua is indeed incredibly based as a company. I use their coolers in 3 of the 5 computers in my house, and I use their fans in all 5. Glad to see they continue to remain so customer focused!
The smirk at 4:12 knowing that we're going to refer to this moment
is it just me, or does he never use the plastic spacers or say where they go.
While using my blackout edition LTT Screwdriver last night, I couldn't help but think how cool a Noctua crossover edition would be. Make it happen!
The backpack with the fucked up zippers was totally "absolutely ready" when it launched ;) lmao.
0:40 damn bro! That segway to our sponsor was so good that it almost beat this Segway, to our sponsor, the comment section
I appreciate the editor's efforts to balance the colors, despite all that brown and bright light around trying to make Linus look as pale as the moon.
Noctua version of LTT Screwdriver at 4:15? Available to the public or one off?
Anyone else out there remember direct-die heatsink mounting on early Athlon chips in the early 00s?
Absolutely terrifying experience!.
Why did not rotate the heat-sink 90 degrees so all heat pipes are in contact with the CCDs?
Man I wish more companies had the customer-first attitude of Noctua, super refreshing to see
nice to see that noctua hasn't lost their way.
I'm wondering if you could use something like the Honeywell PTM 7950 phase change material pads instead? Those work almost as well as liquid metal under direct die conditions...
1:50 This offset bracket has existed on Arctic Liquid Freezer coolers for a few years now
As a 90s PC builder, when we had a lever to lock the cooler onto the die, developed PTSD from installing them...
I didn't even see the second ad segue coming! 👏👏👏
Noctua is one of my favorite companies of all time. I love this video.
Since the hot spot goes left to right, wouldn't it be optimal to rotate the cooler 90°, to get even heat load on all the heatpipes? Of course you'd probably need to change the airflow from front to back to bottom to top (and use a gpu riser cable so it does not obstruct air flow) to benifit from this.
this.
That Noctua colored screwdriver is a dream come true. I want one so bad 🤤
was that a noctua colored LTT screwdriver @5:35?
Whoa! Casual screwdriver reveal, what?! I love the color.
I’m very happy about these announcements, except for the fact that I just bought an NH-D15 and, well, it’s the six-pipe one with the “old” fans and all that. Might look into the offset brackets for AM5, but it would be cool if Noctua offered an “upgrade kit” for both components together
Stoked on the LTTxNoctua screwdriver. I will literally, actually buy one when they become available.
I love Noctua. Three of my five 140mm case fans are Noctua.
4:14 A Noctua coloured LTT screwdriver at a Noctua booth?
