Rotational grazing gives plants a chance to recover, by itself it does not reduce the farm level stocking rate, merely that animals are kept moving on and are not kept in the same field or paddock for an extended time. Giving plants favored by livestock a chance to recover between grazings means they can compete against Rushes and other unpalatable plants species. The result will be that the stock carrying capacity of the land will if anything be higher than it was before.

The theory sounds great, but I have 600 ewes with lambs, 100 hoggs and 25 cows on 1200 acres. 50 acres of meadow ground then the rest is rough pasture and fell ground. 1 field is 480 acres and the another is 350 acres. I’d be spending 24 hours a day moving animals and fences. It’s a hill farm like what is mentioned in this video and is far from the biggest in my area.
