Plant ID has always been a bit intimidating for me. I appreciate the down to earth way you put it. I would love to see you continue this series going into the off season this year.

Informative. Same process use for identifying trees by their leaves.

Working on my plant ID. I got a big book on perennials. That way I can get more planting jobs and learn more about where to put them and take care of them.
I use to work at a garden center. They give me work during the year. It's nice.

Why not just identify crenata by it's crenations at the leaf tip?

Nothing gets my ire up more than a plant snob throwing around latin names just to show their greatness. Don't get me wrong, sometimes you need latin to get the plant right.
With plant ID it becomes reflexive with what you use most. I wouldn't have remembered boxwood is opposite and holly is alternate. I just know which is which. I think I need to get the textbooks out again....

You're absolutely right. most of them don't have a lot, if any, field experience but have a condescending way about themselves. I just laugh
