I was born in France and was raised speaking English and French.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful words of this holy French carol. It has always been my favorite Christmas song.
I feel a good word for some of the differences like, “ People-To your knees! Bow you head!. Stand up!” would be “commanding” due to the use of imperatives.
    Imperatives pack a harder punch.
I can only imagine what it must have felt like to sing those words at a French Midnight Mass.
l grew up in the US attending Midnight Masses.
I joined the church young, at 19, but continued to attend High Masses with my family.
_In the English version of Oh Holy Night the declaration “Christ Is The Lord!” moves me deeply.

I so appreciate learning the original words to this hymn. It has always been one of my favorites. Toward the end of your discussion it occurred to me that the shepherds represented those some see as the lowliest in society while the three kings represented the highest. Jesus' birth covers us all. Glory to God!

Thank you, dear Brother Jared - for a beautiful message. Thank you for almost four years of incredible Gospel learning that has changed my life beyond recognition. I was privileged to return to the Temple on Tuesday for the first time in over five years. The visit filled me with tears of joy - humbled and overwhelmed by the pure love of the Saviour, a peace and joy I never thought I could have. I felt, for the first time in my life, I belonged there. Thank you for every scriptural gem you've given me - far too many to count. It's a blessing you've given many! Merci beaucoup et passe un Joyeux Noël.

Amen…having fallen away for 19 years, and now a Temple ordinance worker…I know exactly how you feel. To feel the Lords light, and the embrace of His loving kindness there in His Holy House is something that I cannot adequately express. We are so blessed by the Love of our Father. What a gift for you my friend❤️😇. Keep up the good work 👍

Thank you! I've loved studying with you these past three and a half years! You have made the scriptures come alive for me, have brought so much more depth and breath to my understanding, and strengthened my testimony in ways I didn't even realize it needed to be strengthened!
My mother had a beautiful "Snow White" quality of voice. She was our Ward Chorister as I grew up. She sang with great passion and volume! You could hear her in the back row over a congregation of 400 during the hymns. My friends I grew up with often still comment about how much they loved to sing the hymns with her. My father commented one day, "You see her leading the congregation. I see her in saddle shoes leading the High School Pep Band!" As a teenager, I spent countless hours playing for her on the piano and organ hymns and songs from the Readers Digest music books. I played Ain't She Sweet, Spanish Eyes, More, and Jing, Jing-a-Ling on the church organ theater style at her funeral 9 years ago because of the relationship I had with her. However, we opened with my accompanying my nephews wife to O Holy Night because that was our song we performed at every family Christmas Eve program since I was good enough to play for her. I loved the way she sang the chorus "Falls on your knees...etc... I couldn't help but to depart from the Readers Digest version and support it in triplets and improvise a counter melody. She truly sang this song with passion and conviction! I truly miss my mother's singing. I played this song in warm ups once with my Ward Choir but it wasn't the same. How I ache to play the hymns and music for people who sing like my mother! When I find one, it is an amazing experience for me to play for them! Thank you for your insights! I know you would have loved hearing my mother and I perform this song. It would have truly resonated - our spirit with yours! I love you my good friend and brother!

I haven't commented before, but I want to thank you for bringing a depth to and understanding of the gospel that I have always wanted and not known how to develop. As a mother of six young children, finding time to study the gospel as I would like to is difficult. I discovered your podcast during the first year and have listened to it regularly since. It has been life changing and I am deeply grateful for the sacrifice you and your family make to share this with us. Deeply grateful to each of you. I know your wife and children give a lot as well to make this happen. You have given me two treasured Christmas gifts this year. I listened to your commentary on Revelation 4 and 5 on my way to the temple last week and had a glorious experience as I listened and then worshipped in the temple. Thank you. Thank you too for this beautiful insight into the lyrics of O Holy Night. I have listened to it several times to try to take it to heart and it has been moving. Merry Christmas. And thank you.

You have been courageous and did well for speaking the words in French, thank you for doing it so. I would it love to hear your wife speaking it in French since she would have a French European accent most different from the French Canadian. Enfin merci pour votre témoignage de l'evangile de Jésus Le Christ, je n'ai pas les mots pour exprimer ma gratitude pour tout ce que j'ai apprie depuis que j'ai commencé à étudier les étudier avec vous.

Thank you so very much for helping me understand the scriptures. When I was 15 an got my patriarchal blessing there was a big section that spoke about me to study the words of God. As I studied the words my eyes would be opened along with my heart and I would gain a greater understanding of what purposes God needs me to fulfill. Through raising my five children I have felt like I did an ok job through I couldn’t really retain all that I learned or at least couldn’t tell ya what book you’d find a particular phrase in.
Though these last two years with your help, I feel like I have grown to love, lean into and understand the will of the father and mother and what they would have me do. With the methods and way in which you teach it’s allowed me to lean in and grow. I appreciate other ways of studying though the nature in which you have helped us to deep dive unlocked a connection within my heart ❤️ that has allows me to remember. It’s allowed me to understand. It’s allowed me to retain so that I might share His good works and glorify our Father in Heaven! Again, thank you 🙏🏼 May you have a blessed holiday with your family!

For Mary's sacrifice to become clean to offer the sacrifice of the lamb 🐑 🐏 Mary and Joseph brought 2 turtle doves 🕊 🕊 because they could not sacrifice an unclean sacrifice of a donkey or Asian Ass.
Mary and Joseph brought the sacrificial Lamb 🐑 🐏 of God to offer salvation for all of the children of God Father had placed 🙏 in his hands ✋.
Impoverished? They did not go to the temple for over 40 days if necessary, for the time after the birth of a male child was specific and Mary could not attend being in uncleanness.
It is an Old Testament law.
She may have and been allowed to wait to take the child to the temple in Jerusalem, as Hannah did with Samuel, until Jesus was weaned, which would have been why Harod had the boys 2 full years and under killed in and about Bethlehem.
THANKS for the great videos. We started watching close to when you began teaching online.

      Leviticus 12:2-7
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.
And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.
And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:
Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.”

I wish I could talk to you about Christmas. I hate it!!! I hate the commercialism, I hate the worshiping of foreign Gods. Jerimiah records the Lord telling us in his 10th chapter to not do as the heathens do who take a tree and decorate it in silver and gold... I feel like the Spirit is telling me that we have gone astray and that we should not worship a day founded in Paganism. I have because of this dropped the way we do Christmas. I have 12 kids that are not happy with my decision, but I don't know how to go back. I feel Christmas is evil. So why does the Prophet give a christmas message in front of a tree cut from the woods by hands and decked with silver... Jeremiah 10:3 "For the customs of the people are vain" Many argue with me saying the christmas is about Christ, then I ask you why Jesus isn't in the stores? Go to Walmart any of them and walk around and count the number of Santa's, verses the number of Jesus. Not just walmart but all the stores, if it is really about Jesus, then where is he? Why when we go to primary and ask if they are excited about christmas, they start getting so excited for Santa, not Jesus, but some lie we tell our kids. If there is something I am missing please tell me, I feel like everyone wants to attack me over this idea, but where am I wrong? Where is Santa, and trees, and reigndeer in the gospel? Why are we not worshiping Christ? Why do we not celebrate him. Why are we not giving presents to the poor and needy, instead of our kids and family who most are so overly blessed? What is worship, is it not where we put our hearts, where we spend our time? So how many of us spend as much time serving God as we do shopping, and decorating trees? We read a few token versus in the bible, and then spend the day opening presents from Santa. Does not Satan throw back his head and laugh at our ignorance? I hope you see this, and I hope you can either tell me I am crazy, or that maybe there is something to it. I notice President Nelson spent 99% of his talk on Christ, so I wonder if christmas traditions are the tears among the wheat that President Monson talked about needing to remain, in order to keep the chickens working?
