Im so swamped with games its going to have to wait but certainly I will. Im also very much looking forward to Gris. After those two though? Ive got so much to play i may not buy a new game tell late January.
It really takes balls to make a game like this.. the story behind it is really interesting. Less than 20 people working. Including students from Digital Hollywood University wich they made the 3D models, that should have the minimum polygons so the PS2 could render properly.. I mean, Katamari Damacy set an visual style that inspired many games.. I think I wouldn't like visual twists in any way. By the time Namco had Tekken, Ace Combat and Ridge Racer.. I'm just glad that this franchise exists and it is revamped now again
Game stop has the physical copy in the states. It’s a great game. Picking up my copy tomorrow. This game is a ton of fun and the soundtrack is amazing as well.
I suspected the US and JP got the game physically and EU was shafted (as per usual) but I didn't know for sure. Bandai are a bit confusing when it comes to physical releases of their games. Taiko was another release lacking info.
SwitchWatch - in my city there are a bunch of shame Stop stores and in one store alone, they sold all ten copies they had in 2 days. They are the exclusive distributor in the US!! More people then I thought are buying this game. I imagine the two versions are similar. Did you order a copy from JP?
SwitchWatch Namco Bandai wired europe got 2 one peice games and horror game physical that United states didnt get physical but they gave us this but not you guys.
I couldn't find any within an hour drive of Baltimore. I think physical copies are going to hold value really well (especially if sealed and there aren't any reprints) I was lucky to find my copy out in Western MD. 3 hour round trip, but well worth it.
A lot of talk about how overly simple and basic the game is from someone who has very clearly not mastered the controls. Also I don’t believe the graphics were comically bad for the time it was released. I don’t know if you are old enough to remember, but the original graphics were par for the course at the time.
I wish with all my heart that they will port katamari forever on the switch. They should have made some kind of reboot with katamari forever's gameplay as it would introduce people to the game while offering an absolutely perfect game feel. I gotta admit I was disappointed with katamari reroll because katamari forever was just so perfect. I hope we will either get a new katamari game or katamari forever for the switch
Hey Josh! It took me a few hours to adjust to them myself. Always ended up turning the wrong way. Pity they couldn't have updated it to a more modern set up.
I remember i had a lot of issues to adapt to the controls at first (back in the first release cause i had 0 troubles with reroll aside for a level worth of adaptation) Now, i adapted perfectly and i find them perfect to be very free of your moves and it makes the game very easy when you're used to these. But keep in mind you can change your controls. There is a "simple" control setting thst might help you out. I think they should have either asked the player to choose the controls (during the tutorial) or made the simple by default.
Mind going more in-depth on how the motion controls work? As much as I loved playing this game and it’s sequels on Sony consoles, playing them on controllers with asymmetrical control sticks feel really off to me, so I’d probably go the motion control route if I were to get it. I kinda imagine them working like two giant control sticks in classic controls - pushing or tilting both forward to go forward, back to go back, and one forward, one back to turn on the spot. Is that how they work?
I loved this game on the PS2 and thought the controls were very fitting. I had no idea about the Switch remake. I might get it just to play again at 1080p.
How do I know if my star is the biggest possible? i want to keep breaking my record to the biggest possible but i don't know what the biggest is for each level..? help!
I'm not entirely sure you understand what I said there. If you research the game's director Keita Takahashi and the development history of this one, I'm sure that will make my point more clear.
The controls were horrendous and I traded my physical copy back in. I loved everything else about it, except for the controls, which imo I would give the game a 5/10.
Personally the classic control scheme is the only way to go. The motion controls might be good though. Totally getting this. Especially after my original copy of KD got scratched beyond repair ;-;
Right off the bat, I can tell it's not had THAT much effort put into it being ported to the Switch. Some games have that real polish and beauty to them when they come over to Switch, and it's a joy. I can tell from your videos alone, before I get the game they're damn worth the pricetag. This one...not so much. Needs more effort to warrant a purchase off of a sale.
@@mcall9800 well, fair enough regarding that, but they shouldn't charge a lot of money in that case. What's best is when games offer dual-graphics options that you can toggld (like the R-Type collection on the Switch) or dual-soundtrack options.
What a nice little palate cleanser from my Smash review. Yes, there was another game released on Friday! Will you pick it up?
SwitchWatch already did!! So excited to own katamari!!! :)
Im so swamped with games its going to have to wait but certainly I will. Im also very much looking forward to Gris.

Yes I just did! Loved the game on the PlayStation, PSP, and iPad! So wacky, so fun!

'It really takes balls' that a pun?
The history is super interesting. I wonder if the gaming historian is aware of it...
Nice review. Unbiased, and you pointed out flaws. Some other reviewers made this sound like the be all end all.
I mean, I probably enjoy it more than I made out, but I can't ignore that it's probably not aged as well as some other recent classic games.
These games are weird delights, but they could've rerolled out newer versions of the game. I.E. Beautiful Katamari or Touch my Katamari
I'm hoping this will help sort out a new entry in the series.
I hope the newer versions will be free dlc considering the price.

Great game from back in the day. I miss back in the day.
Europeans didn't get this one back in the day so it's almost new for us haha
You forgot the most important song in the game
NA NAAAAA NANANA NANA NA NA KATAMARI DAMACYYYY
Don't want to spoil that treasure for the world hehe
@@SwitchWatch fair enough lol

My Fav Game of All Time!
Niice! Not mine particularly, but it's high in my favourite "weird games of all time"
I played this all the time back on my PS2 and I never got tired of hearing the screams of people as I rolled them up.
The world needs a new Katamari Game :(
Hopefully the sales do well for this one so we get another!
and they should add some difficulty then

I'm picking this up the moment it goes on sale!!
I have 4 PS2 copies of this already. I'll only buy this version during a sale since I'm in no way getting physical in the US.
4? 4???
@@SwitchWatch I work at a thrift store and they kept coming for a while. I only have two we love katamaris.
I can't get used to the weird controls.

Imagine holding 2 arcade sticks in your hands. They function like the 2 analogue sticks do with the normal controls.
Nice review Jordan, I knew you was gonna do this review.. I’m getting it for Christmas 😁👍🏽😁👍🏽
What a charming, happy present for chirstmas!
Played it when it came out on PS2 back in the day. Fun, short experience. Thanks for the review.
I think the run time is decent for this one. I think later ones went too far with brevity though
I like the normal controls. It's just like controlling a 4 wheel drive remote control car that I used to have as a kid.
I guess my childhood failed me haha!
I loved this game on the PS2 and thought the controls were very fitting. I had no idea about the Switch remake. I might get it just to play again at 1080p.
I guess I just need to rewire my brain haha
Get it to support the series! Would love a new entry!
Definitely will be picking up
Nice to hear! =)
How do I know if my star is the biggest possible? i want to keep breaking my record to the biggest possible but i don't know what the biggest is for each level..? help!
I honestly don't know, I'm not sure if the game tells you that.
Thanks Mate please keep up the great work
Already working on the next reviews! =)
Top 3 game of all time. Parappa The Rapper in there too.
Oh man I loved that game!
Wow this is weird. Great review Jordan. I might pick it up next year. Definitely on the bizarre side.
It is very, very weird. I really like it though!
Nice review man. I have no silly comments for this haha
The game is silly enough haha
@@SwitchWatch very true it said it all for me haha
Good review but had an Ad at the beginning, the middle and towards the end. That sucks man
Will sort that out bud. We usually have that for longer videos
4:26 wtf are you talking about? Katamari is a great game with great gameplay mechanics. Bandai Namco absolutely knows how to make a game...
I'm not entirely sure you understand what I said there. If you research the game's director Keita Takahashi and the development history of this one, I'm sure that will make my point more clear.
Katamari is the best drug PSA game no doubt so glad it got re-released
Not sure if this is a deterrent though, more like an advertisement for dugs haha
The controls were horrendous and I traded my physical copy back in. I loved everything else about it, except for the controls, which imo I would give the game a 5/10.
They take some getting used to for sure. It's because your mind is so used to other games that have 'better' control schemes.
Honestly when you are used to them it makes the game way easier thsn other controls would make it
It's a classic kind of weird. Lol. Nice review.
Indeed it is!
My bell won’t roll no matter what I try
Personally the classic control scheme is the only way to go. The motion controls might be good though.
Totally getting this. Especially after my original copy of KD got scratched beyond repair ;-;
Motion controls are less easy to use, but I found them to be fun. All three control schemes come out pretty equally though. Fun but a bit unwieldy.
This guy might not appreciate the graphics of Minecraft either.
I said I liked it hehe, but some people won't, for sure
I know, it sounded like it came with a lot of asterisks though,

True, not that different. But great for European players who were denied this first entry back in the day =)

The game was remade in Unity.
I have the demo on switch :(
i love this game' :)
You and me both! =)
This is my style
I can tell with your profile pic haha
I need this game physical but i'm iN the EU :'(
Try importing from Play Asia, a Japanese copy will be available on the 20th I believe. It will play in English and is region-free
@@SwitchWatch you Just blew my mind and my wallet:
Katamari reroll
Mega man 11
Stardew valley physical
Thanks for saving my gaming live
One of the great things about the Switch. Not so great on our bank accounts haha
Definitely not my type of game buy the more games on the Switch the better.
Variety is the spice of life :D
ba nanananananan ba na nana na
Gotta love how whacky it is!
Lol how do you have time to play this when smash is out 🤣
I'm crazy haha
how do people find this fun...
the game is basically
MOVE AND TOUCH STUFF
epic
It's weird how different people can enjoy different things hehe
