I always go above and beyond the suggested amount 15:23 regarding tips unless a cast member was outwardly apathetic or antagonistic. Those folks work their butts off to make us happy, and I’ll reward them with extra $$$ as long as I can afford to.
I would love to hear how you handle tipping on cruise excursions. We always take DCL excursions in ports and we are always surprised about how little information is available to us (both from DCL and from our own research online) prior to the excursion regarding exactly what we will be doing and where tipping will be appreciated/expected.
I always add cash to the envelopes at the end of the cruise to hand them. I have had some really excellent service team members over the years! Specifically my husband and I’s first 7 night cruise. On the first sea day my mom contacted me and let me know that my grandmother had passed, and it really put a damper on the rest of the cruise that just got started. James was our stateroom host on the Fantasy, and I will never forget him going above and beyond even though I honestly just wanted to spend a decent amount in the room. I wrote him a letter to go in the tip envelope, it really meant a lot him trying to cheer me up every time he saw me in the hallway. ❤️ you never forget those magical moments!
So glad to know we can use our onboard credit for gratuities! We recently booked with Kathryn (she was an all star!!) and with the credit there to cover all our gratuities, I don’t know why you wouldn’t use a travel planner. So glad you all exist! 😅
we have been on 17 Disney cruises and always stay concierge. We always tip extra and tip the Concierge Customer Service staff $200 upon embarkation. There isn't a reservation that I can not obtain
Really helpful info for us brits...I'm sure we massively overtipped on our first cruise this year as we hadn't realised some stuff was already included lol
ps - my husband tried his first old fashioned based on your vlog...loves them and also wants a 'one large cube' teeshirt- are these available for delivery to the UK?
We are from the UK but travel quite a lot to the USA. I love the service in general and always reward those who go the extra mile. I do $20 for bags etc. but I might be overdoing it a bit if you only go $5 😂
Great overview! We tried to figure out how much we might have tipped in a restaurant with similar menus then added to our servers and assistant server accordingly. When do you use local currency and when do you use US dollars. Looking forward to the upcoming cruise we booked with you folks!
We always use USD when on a Disney Cruise. It’s hard to use local currency because chances are you’re stopping in multiple countries and the crew members are from all over the world
Excellent content, Dan and Leslie! Great topics, especially the controversial ones 😉 Do you find it high-pressure from your servers to leave review ratings that’s nothing less than Excellent? We were happy to give good ratings to our wonderful servers, but did feel the pressure from them which is an actual question on the survey (“did you feel pressured”) 😅
Tipping is so subjective, at the beginning you said it’s standard to tip 20%. Whatever happened to 15%? Inflation I assume. I mean when you talk Disney Cruises you’re already at 1,000 dollars a night generally for their average cost for a family of 4. One thing that irks me is you said the room service is free. Ah no it’s included in that 1,000 dollar a night tab you’re paying for the cruise. I was watching a vlog on a channel and they were doing Concierge on the Wish for 3 days. Now Concierge is usually double or even more than 1,000 dollars a day. They kept saying like you said it’s free in the Concierge lounge the beer the wine any drinks you want it’s free. Ah once again it’s not free same as all that coke and soft drinks up on the pool deck it’s not free, it’s because you paid a premium. You’re paying so much it’s included. And when you break down the Concierge price for 3 days on the Wish which is only around 7,000 I assure you nothing is free. I have to say for younger families starting to cruise I feel for them as these prices are absolutely ridiculous. I would challenge you do try an MSC Yacht Club inside room for one week which for the 2 of you would be around 3100-3200 dollars and compare it to a 3 day or 4 day Disney Cruise dollar for dollar service to service and show your viewers the difference. I promise you you’d lead them in another direction. And here’s a tip for you be honest and give the all in price on some of these cruises including gratuities . I think 5 dollars a day on top of what you’re already paying in gratuities is more than enough. Unless you’re in Concierge then 10 or more. I encourage you to try other lines and experience their service and prices and compare it to Disney.
We are going on Utopia at the end of the month and look forward to comparing the two newest DCL and RCCL ships! We’ve never been on MSC, but the reviews we have seen and heard aren’t putting it very high on our list. Not sure what to tell you on “included” vs “free.” I’m pretty sure everyone knows you’re not getting on the ship for “free” and can understand the intent behind using the word.
@ I hope when you go on Utopia 3 or 4 day unless you’re staying in a Junior Suite or higher please give the exact number you’re paying vs a Disney Wish 3-4 day. The true apples to apples is a Junior Suite & up then in my opinion it’s no comparison dollar for dollar or Entertainment wise. I do encourage you however to get out there and just try the Yacht Club on MSC for for 7 days an inside room in the Yacht Club is in your budget if you’re constantly going on Disney it’s the Ship within a Ship model that I believe is a game changer Royal is just getting this with the newer Ships. That’s why I said a Junior Suite so you can eat at Coastal Kitchen on Utopia. Good luck and I do enjoy watching your videos. I also love getting different perspectives from Content Creators that are usually loyal to one line.
Way to sound enormously condescending. Here's the great thing about the Internet-we can ALL do our research and land with the cruise line we think overall fits our family vibes-free (or not free) perks or upcharged or whatever. The young families who are just starting out cruising do so with Disney because of the Disney product they trust and want to give to their kids. Nobody is forcing them to.
@ That’s right no one’s forcing anyone to pay a premium. You can either pay the premium or go somewhere else. I think it’s awesome though that on top of everything else you like to pay even more. But hey everything’s subjective.
@@drewyscottson7344 alright, well even if you find your stateroom host the second you board and instruct them to stay away from your room for your entire cruise, they still set it up for you before you got on the ship and will clean thoroughly after you get off, so you will still be using their services
You guys put way too much time into this, one tray versus two trays….its common sense. Also Euros are not tipping like this. Cruise lines need to raise %, so don’t have tip extra.

I'd love to hear about tipping on an ABD also!

I'm surprised you didn't mention specialty dining. We always add an extra 20% on top of the included tip when we eat at Palo.
LOL!!! When you started talking about lifeboats...I thought you were gonna say, if you don't tip, no seat for you!! Hahaha!!
😂

This is great information! So if I understood correctly for room service I can tip in cash correct? thank you! 😊
Yes, but we always charge the tip to the room

lol, a little
Tipping for a coffee or popcorn??? You’ve got to be kidding me. That is just too extreme. And I’m from Canada
some remove the tips and want to pay cash. They have removed the automatics for this.
Yes you can remove the automatic gratuities for any reason, although I imagine people use this excuse and then don’t follow through

are you able to opt out of the stateroom service if you don't want it? I know I am not going to not want any of it.
You’re going to use the same towels your entire cruise?

It’s not common sense, which is why we get so many questions about it.
For us novices this was great information!
