Guys check the liners as well. I had a local shop that sold me a fake. They took it back hesitantly. I sent a buddy of mine there a few days later to see if they took the fakes off the shelf and they didn't. The liners on the real ones have small what I'm assuming are alignment spikes so the liners nest inside the g10. The fakes usually don't have those. Great video but my only concern is now they are also watching this and taking notes. That shop that sold me mine closed down a few months later. Asshats!
Hi Guys; I can't thank you enough for this video! I just won a Para 2 on ebay and before I sent payment, I happened across your video and the knife I "won" had ALL the telltale signs of a fake you described, I contacted the seller with this info and he cancelled the transaction, no questions asked. Stay safe!!
Great job guys! The unrehearsed nature and super close-ups added considerably.. It was almost like a play-along. Most helpful real vs fake I´ve come across.

Thank you both for this video. Just bought my first Spyderco Paramilitary 2. (Just bought this with money from my mom for my birthday). I used this video to check mine out before I bought mine even though I bought it from a reputable dealer. Thank you.
Thank you for this helpful and informative video. The PM2 has got to be one of the most counterfeited knives ever. Fakes have even made their way into Amazon's inventory.
I got a fake from Amazon a while back. I had to do some real internet sleuthing to find all of the clues for the fakes. Thanks for posting this. On mine, Eric’s maker’s mark was in a weird place too and was partially covered when closed. Also, the shape of the relief in the right side scale for accessing the compression lock is different on the fakes - more sharp corners, where the real ones transition very smoothly from the rest of the spine. The edges of the G-10 on the fakes tend to be smoothed over (as if sanded to round them), where the real ones actually have more crisp corners. Angle of the jimping on the thumb ramp of the blade is different with the fakes too - the angle actually changes in comparison to the blade on the real ones to maximize grip on your thumb to keep it from sliding forward. I know what to look for now, but if mine wouldn’t have come in the wrong model from Amazon (plain black instead of blurple that I ordered), I could easily have been had. It was my first PM2, so I probably wouldn’t have even looked into it. Never thought it would happen to me. Lesson learned.
Thank you, I spend quite some cash in it to import and I was worried it could be fake, glad it isn't or its the best fake I have ever seen, it matches the real one perfectly.
I'm pretty sure that the divot on the spider's face is supposed to be a tribute to the original spyderco product, the sharpmaker. the triangle is the same shape as their Sharpmaker sharpening rods.
This is really funny, I have 3 PM2's, 2 are fake, and I have the boxes for all 3. 1 of the fakes is IDENTICAL to yours in terms of discrepancies - every difference you pointed to is exactly the same on mine (mine is black hardware & blade with digital green camo scales though) The other is a worse fake... Clip holes for tip-down only, much thinner blade stock, smaller spider hole etc One of the boxes is identical to your fake with the triangle nose on the spider & the same misspellings, however it looks like it never had a sticker on it. The other box looks the same as my real box except for a few TINY differences, honestly I think its a real box from whoever had it before me, not that I care about the box I bought the fakes together from a thrift shop here in Perth, Australia, whoever is making the fake in your video really gets around! I'll also add: The spine of the blades on my fakes are not perfectly flat, they are a little concave tip-to-spyderhole Both my fakes also have much rounder edges on the scales which honestly feels nicer in the hand than the real one & the actions are pretty good, don't judge by how they feel, judge by the details!
Now I'll be rechecking my Spydie box. I saw another video a while back describing the differences in the boxes and have assumed my Delica is genuine. I'm 99% sure it is, but I'll now double check.
Thanks guys, im not the guy to buy PM I flipped a few of them and its not the type of knife i like, but i do not buy copies or clones, its good to see this on your channel, it might help a lot of people
I have done these comparisons too and the variations in the fakes have lessoned. I have seen where the screws are more inline with Spyderco screws. There are variations the have persisted, such as the lack of a second milled out hole and small notch at the bottom of the non-lock liner of the fake. I avoid purchasing products with known fakes unless I am dealing with an authorized vendor.
IMO this is your best video ever. Because this kind of crap really hurts the makers and the buyers. I never would have been able to tell if I had a fake PM 2. But when I buy a Para 2 you can bet I will go over it like a hawk. Thanks for the lesson.
The wide silver swoosh above the spider is very muted on the fake, with just a thin line on the right side that is bright silver. Below the spider, the wide silver swoosh match. Swooshes. Easy to pick out the fake in the lineup if you know this.
thanks for this video, I just bought an Endura 4 through Amazon and I have a little concern if it is fake or not... but didnt know what to look for to really know for sure... Now with this vid i have some tips ! I am starting to build my collection of folders and some fixed blades... I am becoming a enthusiast with this... Already have around 20+ knives between Spydercos, Kershaws, CRKTs, Benchmade, Kizer, Case, Rough Rider, Ka Bar, Gerber, QSP, ESSE, Victorinox and SOG... more to come

Super helpful. This is the type of scrutiny to use when buying from a questionable source. And I spotted the other fake-box typo Mr. Crumbly noted below: "derect" instead of "direct" inquiries.
I also have bought a few fakes to compare them to my originals (Pingo, Delica4, PM2, Police, Manix2, P´Kal). The problem is, that most of the differences are only obvious if you have a real one to compare. Also the quality of the fakes sometimes is quite "good" and it´s not easy to differ them from an original. Used knives are also a problem, e.g. for the comparison of the texture of the G10 or the quality of the screws. that was awesome, there's a gun/knife show here in upstate, South Carolina in early October. I planned to pick up a few more Spyderco's so i feel a little more prepared after this especially buying from a show. Ty guys.
Oh! Who else noticed that the fake box typed “SPyderco” on the third-to-last line of the bottom paragraph @14:10? I also couldn’t help but notice that the logos and different sections of text on the fake blade didn’t have their baselines aligned with each other... like some kind of bad, snaggle-toothed “HAppy Birthday” banner. Do the real boxes sometimes show some of the silver swoosh through the Spyder’s “nose hole?”
the box is also different on the front. if you look at the white stripe on the front, the color fades along that streak more gradually. On the fake box the white line just ends just above the spyder logo.
Mine and my dads PM2’s shipped either clips in the tip down position, but oddly enough both of our Para 3’s shipped with the clip in the tip up position, as I believe it should be.
I get mine tomorrow in the mail i will check all of this. Thanks. I bought mine from amazon, but the seller was sportco wholesale. So im assuming its a real knife becuz sportco is a outdoor retail store lol
You best check. I used to own small store. It’s not hard to get listed as authorized reseller. You only had to deal with manufacturer directly. Point is a cheat merchant can buy fake mix in to boost margin. Be careful
The screws are the most obvious. You were absolutely right. Real almost looks like a circle cut into the screw, and then maybe a fraction of a mm below that circle, the star pattern starts. Possibly the inside of the star pattern is rounded, not angled.
I bought a PM2 on amazon and it turned out to be a fake. Luckily for me I purchased a PM2 on amazon a couple years earlier and I had that to compare it to. @Semper Skeptical Yeah, when you spend $200 on a knife that was made in the USA you should be ok with bad tolerances! And for a company that started off with balisongs their selection does not reflect that whatsoever
Another good vid. Learn so much from you folks. How to spot a fake, the burr bird and how live of of pb&j and ramen noodles. 😉 And can't forget about all the innuendos. What can't you learn here lol 😋.
You can see the grain structure in the real one in the side blade profile. On the fake, no grains, it looks satin. I don't know if this may actually be the carbides and that's why
I worry about all my eBay auction wins after watching these videos. Thank you. I see the passion you both have. Btw, the garbled, janky English on the box, paper, and blade have been tell-tale signs of fakes, but the counterfeiters are catching on. I am sure some private, online resellers are finding genuine boxes, too, to pass counterfeits as originals.
A couple of things to notice, one is on the box. If you notice the blade from the belly to the tip is dark on the fakes. The second thing that may not apply to this particular video but I know with the the Delica imitations The etched not stamped. Just throwing it out there.
Thank you guys for this video! It will definitely save alot of people alot of hard earned money. BTW I just bought a boker kalashnikov 74 in S30V last night because of your guys's as always awesome, informative videos so thank you again for that!
I got a fake Military from eBay several years ago. Odd thing was it was someone's used beater knife. Dirty, dull missing a screw etc which i knew up front. I figured that's why it was only $75. It was very convincing and I didn't realize it was a fake until I had completely cleaned it up and sharpened it. Fortunately the seller took it back. I even got a fake Kershaw 1830 once. I can't understand why someone would counterfeit such a cheap knife. No more eBay knives for me. LOL
Thanks for the tips! Personnally, I don't really mind copies of super high-end custom knives (For me, it's more like buying a copy of a painting, or any work of art, as long as they don't pretend it's the real thing) but I do dislike copies of production knives. Clones of custom, handmade knives don't really hurt the knife industry (because customs aren't production knives anyway), but I do hate ripoffs of standard-issue production knives (and I hate them even more when they try so hard to make you think it's a genuine one). This will definetly help me not to get caught in the futur.
Awesome info guys!!! Thank you for pointing this out. It's unreal how far they will go to counterfeit something. Was the one spyder a differnt color? Or was that juust the camera angle? Keep up the great work guys
The front makers mark has a different spacing on the V in the fake one in addition to the whole logo rotated slightly different. The rear makers mark has slightly different sizing and rotation. The real has a tighter W on the left side. The clip hardware are different colors. I bet if you tested the metal the fake is not really s30v.
Thanks you two. Well done! I'm glad to be at the point, in my knife life. That I'm only buying Sprint Runs, and Exclusives now. That sure helps, to avoid this kind of thing. I'll keep an eye out though! 👍🔪🍺😎
Only helps if you get it from the source, I recently bought an older sprint run (Manix 2 in M4) on the secondary market and sent it to Golden to verify its authenticity... I’m sweating bullets until I hear from them 😓
The best fake I’ve seen. They’ve ‘fixed’ some of the older tells. The pockets in the liners used to be different too. And the way the label numbers protrude into the barcode bars on genuine knives.
Great PSA for the knife community!! So cool that you went to all the effort for that box comparison. Btw, "Repain" is a real word... I get it every time that I speak with my ex!! 😉
Nice video guys. I'm waiting on my PM2 today, I have other Spyderco's but I dont have another PM2 to compare it to. Any tips for comparisons with other Spyderco's?
Best way to tell if a spider go is fake if you take the knife apart if you feel comfortable enough there’s a deep at the bottom of the blade that’s hidden from the grips if it doesn’t have that day it’s not real
I knew of these fake attributes some time back. In fact, I researched the fakes before I ever bought a real one. Regardless, this is one of the best comparison/ revealing videos regarding counterfeits out there. Nice job F&B!
I have a fake that nails almost all the things you noticed. My fake has the exact same looking screws, the writing and logos are exactly the same, the G10 looks and feels the same, the compression lock looks and feels the same, the jimping next to the compression lock is the same. The only differences i noticed are: the jimping on the blade is sloppy, there are scratches in the spidey hole and it has 3 little oxide spots on the blade which the real one definetly shouldn't have. The fakes are getting better and better and we all need to be carefull because of it.
That was the most in-depth video that I’ve seen regarding the differences of a real and fake knife. Nicely done.
we really appreciate that!

Huge difference on the sharpened edge as well. Much smoother grind on the real.
Damn bird fam. 21k subs👍u two make a good team. Comedy amd blades. And #puglove
thank you for the support!
The exposed liners are different lengths on the real one too. The fake one they are both the same length. @5:23
GREAT Work THANKS Y'all 👍
I bought aYojimbo on Amazon a while back and received that same exact fake PM2. Now that's just lazy counterfeiting if you ask me.
Love the pm2
hello stranger, you were 3 seconds away from stealing first place from our current champ ;)
Second lol
Thank you guys for this video! It will definitely save alot of people alot of hard earned money. BTW I just bought a boker kalashnikov 74 in S30V last night because of your guys's as always awesome, informative videos so thank you again for that!
thanks JB!
LOL
we've heard of fake Kershaw's but never seen one. crazy lol
The silver stripe above the spyder is black instead of silver!! Or it might be the lighting.
Also the emblem has straight legs on the fake and rounded edges on the knife blade.
FRANKIE is a GEM, plain and simple
Thanks Bill! Great meeting you! :) -Frankie
Awesome info guys!!! Thank you for pointing this out. It's unreal how far they will go to counterfeit something. Was the one spyder a differnt color? Or was that juust the camera angle? Keep up the great work guys
it was the knife to knife angle difference, yes. Colors matched very well
The front makers mark has a different spacing on the V in the fake one in addition to the whole logo rotated slightly different.
👍🔪🍺😎
thanks Steve. Buying from the big retailers is a pretty sure thing, top it off with sprint runs and your golden lol.
Only helps if you get it from the source, I recently bought an older sprint run (Manix 2 in M4) on the secondary market and sent it to Golden to verify its authenticity... I’m sweating bullets until I hear from them 😓
How does the fake perform when compared to the real thing? What is the quality of the blade?
Don’t even have a PM2 and right off the bat I could tell which one was fake because of the blade shape
The best fake I’ve seen. They’ve ‘fixed’ some of the older tells. The pockets in the liners used to be different too. And the way the label numbers protrude into the barcode bars on genuine knives.
Wow, I would have been duped.
Thanks for the heads up
lots of people would be, so close if you don't know the little details
I’m glad I have the Spyderco Factory Outlet nearby that fake was ugly ass hell, I also noticed the engraving colors immediately. Great comparison!
Great PSA for the knife community!! So cool that you went to all the effort for that box comparison. Btw, "Repain" is a real word... I get it every time that I speak with my ex!! 😉
haha perfect
Thanks so much guys!!
About to get my first one. Cant really tell if its real though.
Thank you guys I just ordered my first para 2 from Amazon couple days ago. It’s going under microscope
Nice video guys. I'm waiting on my PM2 today, I have other Spyderco's but I dont have another PM2 to compare it to. Any tips for comparisons with other Spyderco's?
Are there any Spydercos with yellow stickers on the box? My friend bought me a Tenacious and the box had a yellow sticker.
Best way to tell if a spider go is fake if you take the knife apart if you feel comfortable enough there’s a deep at the bottom of the blade that’s hidden from the grips if it doesn’t have that day it’s not real
I would be shocked to see the grind at the spydeyhole be that bad on any real spyderco but I guess it is a possibility.
More of these fake vs real vids please?!?
I knew of these fake attributes some time back. In fact, I researched the fakes before I ever bought a real one. Regardless, this is one of the best comparison/ revealing videos regarding counterfeits out there. Nice job F&B!
thank you for the support!
Thanks for the info guys 🤙🏼
thanks for watching!
The spyder hole on the fake overlaps the plunge grind more than the real deal.
