Crazy fact I just read about the other day: Members of the Norfolk & Western Historical Society have apparently discovered from records that 611 actually pulled Dwight Eisenhower's campaign special when he was running for President in 1952, between Columbus, Ohio and a border town in West Virginia (Ike himself was on board)! Locals on the other hand pronounce it a little differently. Should sound more like Stanten. City was named for the wife of a lieutenant governor during the colonial days. I guess that's where the pronunciation comes from. If it makes you feel better it's one in over 20 locations throughout Virginia everyone pronounces wrong according to the locals.
