    I remember once asking my 5th grade teacher "how does an x-ray machine work". He just answered (struggled to answer) " ugh .. it's just invisible light that passes through you and is picked up by a film behind" .. While he's technically not wrong, I was referring to how does an x-ray machine produce x-rays... because I wanted to make one lol I was that weird kid.
    But now that I know that it's a tungsten-surfaced anode and a highly charged cathode in a glass vacuum .. i'm going to go make an x-ray machine :)

    You can simply compare the x ray passing through your skin to visible light passing through glass. The story is simple there are a spectrum of electromagnetic waves, our eyes were made to be able to detect a certen amount of them, these waves have the ability to pass through materials depending on the level of energy, in which the portion we are able to see may pass through glass, air, water etc... the higher the energy, more easily it can pass through materials, x ray is higher than visible light so it can pass though our skin, the same way glass is transparent to visible light, our skin is transparent to x-ray.

    Why everytime I hear the history of Rontgen’s discovery its always slightly different? The initial object that glows, the objects used to shield the rays, etc. always change, you can look up the origin story and find 3 different tellings of it.

    Great video! But there is to mention that the contrast fluid "omniscan" that is shown here is a gadolinium-based contrast agend, which has nothing to do with x ray exams but instead with mri exams. Also, you showed a lot of mri images, which is kind of misleading since there are no x rays used in mri scans. There is already a lot of confusion when it comes to the difference between x ray and mri, so i'd love to see more people getting this right in these kinds of viedos instead of causing more confusion. It's still a nice video though! :)

    Hello, how are you? I have a question, please. What are the materials that x-rays cannot penetrate

    • @stephenoverthrow2463
      @stephenoverthrow2463 8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Red Zone. As an industrial radiographer, I inspect aircraft components using X-rays. One of the materials that are excellent at blocking X-rays is lead, which has a high absorption factor. This is why my X-ray enclosures where I perform my inspections have lead lined walls that absorb the radiation that X-rays produce. This keeps persons on the outside of the enclosures safe while X-rays are being produced. The inside and outside walls are monitored weekly for any radiation leaks with a geiger counter in accordance with the latest radiation regulations. Hope that helps.

      @TheRadLife93 Рік тому

      Yes it is possible but I would suggest that you go for a bone densitometry scan. It use less radiation and it calculates your bone density. The results will indicate if you have osteopenia, osteoporosis etc.
      DEXA Bone densitometry scan.

    I have a question regarding X-rays. If the X-ray results shows a lot of transparency in the bone itself, does that mean a lack of calcium? Or is that okay? My kitty cat got an X-ray and the doctor said everything is okay. But his hind bones are transparent. Can someone let me know if that should be of any concern. A vet that i happen to know once showed me an Xray of my kitty and pointed to a transparent area in the hip and it was almost translucent. Said he lacked calcium. So, i would like to know if anyone can maybe explain that to me with a little more detail.
