Known for its sleepy beach towns, boho-chic boutique hotels, fabulous local cuisine, ancient ruins, and jungle treasures, the Mayan Riviera is still one of the best places to visit in all of Mexico
I have stayed at this resort during covid. You pretty much got it all dead on. You also made me aware of a few things, I did not know. Great video! I plan on returning Memorial Day week.
We stayed here for a week last Oct and Loved it! Access to all the other resorts but decided AO is the way to go for us after trying to enjoy the pool and dinner in the family friendly resorts next to crying whining kids. Dinner on the porch of the French restaurant with views of the ocean- magical! Also loved the couples massage and hydro-therapy at the spa. Well worth the money. Service was top notch at AO. We upgraded and had a swim out room.
It definitely has the sexy factor - especially if you stay in an swim out room 👌🏻 there’s not much night time entertainment, but you can check out the other Barcelós for more options
It'd a beautiful resort. I was there late August of last year and I must say it was worth it.. being g at the All Adults only you have free reigns of the other resorts facilities.. and the staff and service is Top Notch!! Planning on going back again next year!! Only 1 downside of this resort that the buffet closes at 6pm, the rest of the other barcelo resort closes around 8pm, the Palace if I'm not mistaken closes at 10pm.. besides that 10 out of 10!!
Yeah, they close the buffet early so you can take advantage of the ala carte restaurants - which are excellent!! It’s nice to have the option to eat at the other dinner buffets as well though 🙌🏻👍🏻
We were there in February 2020 for 2 weeks. We went as a family holiday but we grandparents opted for the adults only section while the rest due to children stayed at “ Beach”. We were quite overwhelmed at first with the shear size of everything but did get familiar with the layout quickly. When we were there the buffet closed at 4:30 but the a la cartes were absolutely amazing...We did the French 3 times! We did take advantage of other buffets as well. It is beautiful but being so contemporary, if you didn’t know you were in Mexico, you wouldn’t know you were in Mexico. But it was a wonderful experience and would recommend it for sure! 🇨🇦

Thanks for watching! I would say yes, there are lots of activities to keep you busy! There are numerous excursions you can take in the area - catamarans, snorkeling, Mayan ruins, etc. - plus, the Barcelo complex has an excellent gym, spa and shopping area 👍🏻
I guess my husband where at the resort the same time as you were filming, we caught a glimpse of ourselves at the Palace but we were staying at the Maya Riveria. What are the chances of finding your video and just casually seeing myself. We are heading back in 17 days for 10 days but staying at the Palace this time. I 100% agree that the Maya Riveria will not disappoint. Just a gorgeous location and wonderful resort.
Why the palace this time and not the Adult only? Planning a adult only but know nothing about this complex, dancing ightclub adult entertainment and pool activities etc, any more info would be helpful
First of all, love your videos. Very detailed! The QR codes are super helpful as i am a picky eater, but my husband will eat anything. I didnt see any food options near the pool or beach area. Are there any other lunch options besides the buffet? Also, are there pathways to walk over to the neighboring barcelo resorts? If so, do you have to scan your bracelet to enter? Lastly, have you considered doing an all inclusive resort for beginners video. We have never stayed at one and trying to learn how it works. Do they scan bracelets at restaurants or getting drinks?
Thanks for your feedback and suggestion! We will add that to the list of potential upcoming videos! For lunch, there is only the main buffet and the Premium lounge (for premium level rooms only) 🤷🏼♀️. Yes, there is a path along the beach that leads to the other Barcelos 👍🏻 there’s also a bus that shuttles you to the other hotels outside of the main lobby. They don’t scan your bracelet, but they do visually check them whenever you’re at the bars/restaurants to see which hotel you belong to. You can walk freely from this hotel to the other Barcelos without a problem 👍🏻 Hope that helped!
You seem to be the most informative with your tours. I have possibly narrowed my resorts to Barcelo Maya and Hideaway at Royalton. I couldn't find a review from you for that one. But thought I would try asking if you knew how the water was around that area. I believe it is Puerta Morales. I've seen pictures in reviews that was bright turquoise, others were brown.
The beach at the Barcelo can be unpredictable based on the tides - sometimes there’s sargassum in the water, other times not 🤷🏼♀️ when there isn’t any, the water is a gorgeous turquoise 👍🏻
Hey there! I’m loving the look of this report. Was deciding between here, Grand park Royal Cancun and Dreams Sands cancun. Dreams sands is really up there for us because the nice, calm water at the beach. Seems little to no seafood too. Do you think this beach is in comparison to dreams sands? If you’ve looked at it ever. I do love this one because it’s adults only though! And much bigger looks than the other 2 I’m looking at. Thanks!!
Hey there! We aren’t familiar with those resorts 🤔 when we visited this resort, the beach was great but there was a ton of sargassum in the water - this later cleared and the water was perfect at the tail end of our week. Essentially, the water and beach situation is largely dependent on the season you’re visiting and the tides 🤷🏼♀️
Watched quite a few of your videos, and they're helpful since I'm researching Cancun. We are 50, traveling without kids, and want a fun resort on a good beach with GREAT food. Since you've been quite a few places I'm looking at, can you recommend your favorite in these areas so I can narrow my search?

Excellent walkthrough, except for the food. Strange to show only one buffet meal and none of the restaurants, no? All the detail about the layout is great, but paying the same attention to the food and liquor would make it even better! Which beverages are included in the premium level but not in the regular? Are they at the pool bar as well?
The stairs aren’t too bad, but the tiles surrounding the pool are very slippery. We would put a towel down right at the entry to the pool and slip our sandals on right away as well.
We stayed here in August. Wonderful time. I didn’t notice in your video, but the a la carte restaurants have a dress code that people need to be aware of.

I totally agree with you! I love the modern vibe 😍 I recommend visiting their website to see the full list of premium level perks - but some of them are free room service, preferred location, private checkin/checkout and use of premium lounge to name a few 👍🏻 we thought it was definitely worth it!
Yes, you need reservations for all the dinner restaurants. There aren’t any waterfront restaurants at this resort, but the Barcelo Maya Palace has a waterfront restaurant that serves lunch.

They don’t have much in the evening outside of the lobby bar and they usually have live music or a DJ playing the the lobby as well 👍🏻 you do have access to all the other Barcelos, so you can catch a show at any of the others… plus there’s the Maya Mall for more entertainment 👍🏻

The beach in front of the Maya Riviera and the Maya Beach was the nicest, but they are all connected - so you can walk down and enter the water wherever you’d like 👍🏻
If I stay at Maya riviera, when I visit other Barcelos, I know I can try all other buffet restaurants there, what about pool bar? can I also get drink at pool bar?
Trying to decide on a resort for our first kid-free group trip. Your video might have just sold the group on booking this resort!! How’s the nightlife?
We absolutely loved the Barcelo Maya Riviera 😍 In terms of nightlife, there is usually a DJ and live band performing in the main lobby. If you want to see a show, there are 3 theatres in the Barcelo complex to choose from, plus a disco at the Maya mall on complex to check out. 👍🏻 (you can take the Barcelo bus to all of these locations 👍🏻)
We went during Covid - so things might have changed… there was no dinner buffet - just breakfast and lunch at that time. The restaurants closed around 10 pm I think.
We had an amazing time at this resort! Its new, modern, has great food, great service and access to all the other Barcelos in the complex. !00% recommend!
Question for everyone what would be the most money you would spend to stay for seven days? 4 of us would like to go at the end of November and it's currently around 2,000 Canadian per person.
My friends and I will be there next week. We paid a total of $850 US dollars per person with flight and stay! Granted, we live in Texas and booked for 5 days and 4 nights back in Feb.
Not really - it’s kinda quiet in the evenings. It’s more of a couples resort. I would recommend choosing a resort in Cancun if you’re looking for a party vibe. We just visited the RIU Caribe and it was awesome- new video coming out this weekend!
I know, that you mentioned, that there are quiet areas, within the resort. If I have an ocean view room, should I be worry that it may overlooked the bar and the pool area, which are usually very loud. I really want quiet area, from my ocean vie room. Can I expect that?

We recommend the Barcelo Maya Riviera 👌🏻 it’s got amazing rooms, restaurants, pools and a great beach. You can also visit the other Barcelós, including the Palace.. but not vice versa
This resort is a bit quiet - just some pool games during the day and some live music at night. You have access to the other Barcelos as well and they have more activities 👍🏻
What barcelo hotel would you recommend that we can still get the most out of the other hotels? I know you can't use the adults only one if staying at the other hotels.
Correct- you can only use the facilities at the Barcelo Maya Riviera if you’re staying there. We definitely recommend staying there bc we had the option of visiting all the other 5 resorts and we did visit quite a bit 👍🏻 it was nice to be able to roam around freely and try a bit of everything. If you stay at Barcelo Maya Palace, you can visit the other 4 Barcelos, just not Maya Riviera.. if staying at Maya Beach, Caribe, Colonial or Tropical, you can only visit those ones, not the Maya Palace or the Maya Riviera.
We only ate at the Riviera Maya ala cartes - our faves were the Italian and Japanese 👍🏻 a lot of people rave about the French restaurant, but the food we ordered was not our fave - but it’s still worth a try… they’re all great restaurants

Is the swim up room stairs slippery , there are no bars to hold on too , do you recommend for older person?

Yea, you need to make reservations for the dinner restaurants. Yes they do have drink service at the pool, but not the beach 👍🏻

We loved the adults-only! It’s new and modern and amazing! They are very different styles though, so it’s hard to compare.

We did hear about the $20 day pass - which I think is per person - but not 100% sure. I would recommend asking at checkin 👍🏻

Can you tell me which beach out of all of the resorts was the most pleasant?
The beach in front of the Maya Riviera and the Maya Beach was the nicest, but they are all connected - so you can walk down and enter the water wherever you’d like 👍🏻
If I stay at Maya riviera, when I visit other Barcelos, I know I can try all other buffet restaurants there, what about pool bar? can I also get drink at pool bar?

We absolutely loved the Barcelo Maya Riviera 😍 In terms of nightlife, there is usually a DJ and live band performing in the main lobby. If you want to see a show, there are 3 theatres in the Barcelo complex to choose from, plus a disco at the Maya mall on complex to check out. 👍🏻 (you can take the Barcelo bus to all of these locations 👍🏻)
Did you book thru a member to get premium privileges?
We booked a vacation package, but you can book right on the website. When you are choosing the room, you will see some are “premium level” 👍🏻
what time does the restaurants close as there is no buffet at night like the other resorts?
We went during Covid - so things might have changed… there was no dinner buffet - just breakfast and lunch at that time. The restaurants closed around 10 pm I think.

We had an amazing time at this resort! Its new, modern, has great food, great service and access to all the other Barcelos in the complex. !00% recommend!

Question for everyone what would be the most money you would spend to stay for seven days? 4 of us would like to go at the end of November and it's currently around 2,000 Canadian per person.
Yes, that seems like a good price! We paid a bit more but stayed for 9 days 👍🏻

My friends and I will be there next week. We paid a total of $850 US dollars per person with flight and stay! Granted, we live in Texas and booked for 5 days and 4 nights back in Feb.

No, there are no umbrellas- there’s shade from pergolas at the pool and shade from the palm trees on the beach 👍🏻

Not really - it’s kinda quiet in the evenings. It’s more of a couples resort. I would recommend choosing a resort in Cancun if you’re looking for a party vibe. We just visited the RIU Caribe and it was awesome- new video coming out this weekend!
Is there drink service on the beach?
Shoot! I don’t remember- we didn’t spend much time at the beach bc of the seaweed 🤷🏼♀️ I’m leaning towards no - we never saw many people down there 🤔
I know, that you mentioned, that there are quiet areas, within the resort. If I have an ocean view room, should I be worry that it may overlooked the bar and the pool area, which are usually very loud. I really want quiet area, from my ocean vie room. Can I expect that?
Yes, some ocean view rooms might be located by the activity pool - so you will have to request a room away from the action.

The seaweed fluctuates - it’s more clear in the fall/winter and there is more seaweed in the spring/summer

We recommend the Barcelo Maya Riviera 👌🏻 it’s got amazing rooms, restaurants, pools and a great beach. You can also visit the other Barcelós, including the Palace.. but not vice versa
How deep are the pools?
Around 4 feet - deep enough to stand and swim, but not dive. I’m 5’1 and I could stand comfortably with the water around my shoulders.
What’s some of the best activities at the resort?
This resort is a bit quiet - just some pool games during the day and some live music at night. You have access to the other Barcelos as well and they have more activities 👍🏻
What barcelo hotel would you recommend that we can still get the most out of the other hotels? I know you can't use the adults only one if staying at the other hotels.
Correct- you can only use the facilities at the Barcelo Maya Riviera if you’re staying there. We definitely recommend staying there bc we had the option of visiting all the other 5 resorts and we did visit quite a bit 👍🏻 it was nice to be able to roam around freely and try a bit of everything. If you stay at Barcelo Maya Palace, you can visit the other 4 Barcelos, just not Maya Riviera.. if staying at Maya Beach, Caribe, Colonial or Tropical, you can only visit those ones, not the Maya Palace or the Maya Riviera.
So sterile and antiseptic looking. We would prefer the palace. We are going to the Palace for our 3rd time. Just love it.

No you don’t - only to the Maya Tropical, Colonial, Caribe and Beach.
What restaurants a la cartel do you recommend?
We only ate at the Riviera Maya ala cartes - our faves were the Italian and Japanese 👍🏻 a lot of people rave about the French restaurant, but the food we ordered was not our fave - but it’s still worth a try… they’re all great restaurants

Not really for women, but men I think need to wear long pants 🤔 or they might be able to get away with dressy shorts
