  • This is a HOW TO: demonstration video that shows how I rig for light tackle tog/ or black fish jigging. This video includes how to tie the knots that I prefer to use as well as the equipment/ materials that I presently prefer to use. 7'6" Bull Bay Reel Animals Series 8 - 17 lb test spinning rod, can be seen in in action in the first video on this UA-cam Channel. As well as Penn Conflict II 4000 size spinning reel, and 15 lb test Power Pro Slick braided line in high vis yellow color. I use the same outfit in both deep and shallow water applications. My present favorite tog jigs are ASYLUM TOG BUGZ and can be found on Facebook if you search for Al Zuppe.

    Try the Steve Huff Double figure 8 knot. It's very good.

    The loop knot is key - been using it for years - listen to kenny, he knows!

    thanks for sharing all your knowledge Ken! one question is would you change your line/rod if you were fishing light jigs on a breaker wall? I love the asylum jigs and fish out of milford ct. we usually fish the new haven breaker walls and it can be very non forgiving!

    I typically fish for Blackfish on the artificial reef sites off of the Delaware Coast....depths being 50 - 75 feet. Most of the time the current is to strong for fishing a light jig under 2 ounces. Typically, I would need 4-5 ounces to stay down even when using 10-15 lb braided line attached to a 3-4 foot 50 lb fluro leader. My question....have you found a way to use a light jig in the ocean, or do you typically use the jigs strictly inshore?

      Good question Jeff! I like jigs when conditions allow me to fish with a jig 2.5 ounces or less. If I need a jig heavier than 2.5 ounces I fish a rig. Either a snafu or a slider with the necessary weight on the properly matched rod n reel.

      Jigs and spinning gear when conditions allow. Nothing has changed for me. I use conventional tackle when fishing deep wrecks, also nothing new. I only shot this video 2 years ago approximately. Not that much has drastically changed since then.

    how long do the paint last on these after hitting rocky bottom for a day that what I been trying to find a tog jig that last more then a day after hitting a rocky bottom all day an setting jigs to scrapping rocks

    • @kenwesterfeldfishing2244
      @kenwesterfeldfishing2244  3 роки тому

      Paint does't last on any jig. They take a beating on rocks, they get snagged, and they get slammed by tough fish. The paint gets knocked off of all of them I don't care what brand. But it's really not the paint or the color that catches fish. The paint and colors catch more fishermen than fish. I've caught countless tog on unpainted jigs. Color is not important 98% of the time. I will keep fishing the same jig long after the paint has been knocked off and I still keep catching fish on it. Don't believe any other hype otherwise.

    ? Brother would those new clips have the same action

    • @kenwesterfeldfishing2244
      @kenwesterfeldfishing2244  5 років тому

      Clips? What clips? You mean TA Clips? Tactical Angler Clips? Those are for surf casting and working luresI don't use any terminal tackle for black fish ever. When togging you snag bottom and break off a lot. Most seasoned tog anglers see no point in donating more money in the form of equipment. The tog don't hit jigs because of a particular action like fluke and stripers respond to buck tails for example. Or the way bass are coaxed to hit a plug attracted by an irresistible action and profile. Tog hit a jig over a rig for 2 reasons. 1 is that their natural food source is found upon the same rocks where a jig will lay. 2 is the crab that the jig must be baited with in order for it to work as intended. Tog are keyed in to natural food. Not lures. They normally require strong natural scent in order to be stimulated to feed.
