i had my son as a miserable 19 year old who never wanted kids and never wanted to be a mother. i laugh about this now, but his crib for a while was a storage box without the lid and with bars cut on the sides. the father wasn’t in his life to begin with, so it was just me and him. i had a shitty office chair i got from goodwill as my desk chair as my rocking chair and i’d rock him in that chair to sleep while singing this song to him. now, as a 4 year old, he asks me sometimes to sing the “boy song”. we live in a house now, it’s still him and i and we have a real rocking chair and bed now, but every time i hear this song or sing this song, i go back to those days. i go back to when he was placed on my chest for the first time and falling in love more than i ever have. every single day of my life, i’m thankful for the time in ASL class my teacher put mr. holland’s opus on and i only decided to pay attention during the scene when this plays. changed my life forever.
I used to sing this to my darling grandson and rock him in my arms when he was little (he's 4 now) and he still remembers it. Now, when he's being a bit grouchy he says "Grandad, sing me John's song." Priceless.

I was living in Bermuda when John and Sean were there in Aug. of 80.. John walked out of a restaurant in the Botanical Gardens and saw a flower called.... Double Fantasy?? All of Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey was written while he was in Bermuda.. My parents broke up when I was 7 and my Dad went back to Bermuda.. He made as many visits to the states as he could even with having another family.. We had great summer vacations there.. My dad was a very generous man, always picked up the check, and loved treating everybody. After I moved back to Florida he visited often.. He passed at the ripe old age of 90. A very happy positive man.. I first heard Beautiful Boy at a memorial service for John in Bermuda.. Very beautiful, but sadly he was already gone.. We miss you John..

My son Adam was born on the 6th of January. He had been diagnosed with a Congential Diaphragmatic Hernia at 20 weeks into the pregnancy. He is currently in Neonatal Intensive Care and is doing well so far. We’re hoping he can have surgery tomorrow to repair his diaphragm. We are so proud of him. My son Adam was born on the 6th of January. He had been diagnosed with a Congential Diaphragmatic Hernia at 20 weeks into the pregnancy.
He is currently in Neonatal Intensive Care and is doing well so far. We’re hoping he can have surgery tomorrow to repair his diaphragm. We are so proud of him.

I'm so very sorry to every who has a sad relation to this song... I haven't had that sort of connection to it, but as a younger man, I recall basically listening to this song myself to help calm me down and bring me to a place that felt like I was cared for and safe without anything outside my bedroom harming me. I hope everyone who hears this, though, is doing well and has had a happier connection to this song.

24 years ago today, my beautiful grandson was born. "Beautiful Boy", was played for him, when he was a few hours old, with his entire family at his side. We continued to play it every year on his birthday, until he became a teenager.
As a young man, he now struggles with mental health issues and addiction. It breaks my heart, watching my beautiful boy, battling these 'monsters', that refuse to go away.
