Crushed rock is one of the few applications I would consider landscape fabric. The fabric is not there is support rock, just to prevent weed seeds from reaching soil. I have never heard of it being used as a termite barrier.
That stuff is the bane of my existence. The people who lived here before us laid it down in layers (I mean 5 layers of cloth in some spots!!), so every time I want to move or transplant something, it’s roots are all tangled up in the layers of cloth. So by the time I’m done wrestling with it, the roots are destroyed. Takes some of the joy out of gardening.
Routine weeding by hoe or by spray keeps weeds down. You can also use a product like Preen that prevents weed seeds from germinating. A 2" / 5 cm layer of mulch will inhibit weeds too.
On jobs that people requested this my boss would charge a ridiculous amount. Almost nobody would accept his quote and the people who did he make bank on. We told them it was a waste of money.

So what's your solution? How do you keep your crushed rock from sinking in the ground? how do you keep termites from coming up into your wood mulch?

It’s a pain in the rear end!
me either!

This example is at my daughter's house. I used a string trimmer to remove the weeds that were happily growing on top of the landscape fabric.
Bit what's the alternative?
I've seen alot of people use cardboard. Not sure how well it works.
Routine maintenance

@@sebeden12 I did use cardboard around my trees before adding mulch Seemed to help better than fabric

That's pretty funny.
EXaCTLY And IM still pulling weeds out of my Rock beds!!🤬🤬🥵🥵🥵
Needing a tractor here .
Use it every time you mulch
The ground beneath is also terrible- compacted, dry and with less organic matter. Awful stuff!
You are so right! It creates a barrier where decomposed organic matter can't enrich the soil beneath the landscape fabric.
And the solution is...drum roll

I would apply preen and mulch 4 inches deep! The mulch should hold the preen in place!
