  • Do we all have to use a label? Honestly, no. No one is requiring you to use a label if you arent comfortable doing so. We all must respect everyone’s personal decision to take on a label or not. It’s part of the journey. Thats what we’re here to discuss today.

    Every experience is different.
I'll always advocate for people who don't use label for themselves, because they don't need it.
But I'm one of those who find comfort in labels ... Because labels help me understand myself better, find a community of people who relate to my experience and make me hate myself less ... I'd rather call myself a greysexual/aegosexual biromantic girly than a 'complicated', 'picky', 'cold', 'frigid', 'confused' , 'broken' or 'in need to get laid', anytime ... But again, that's my experience !

i love labels, i find them personally helpful for understanding and reflecting parts of myself. i disagree with the notion that labels are only for communicating with others because i have labels i don't tell anyone about. there are however parts of my queerness that i don't label, like my sex-stance, what kind of tertiary attraction i experience (i just say bi) etc. this is because these are things i don't fully understand about myself but also don't really care enough to try to find answers because it usually just makes my head hurt. some people are really set on labelling these things *for* me though.

I use the labels aromantic and asexual to help me find the community I so desperately needed. That community definitely made me feel less broken and gave me people I could related to so I was no longer so isolated. I also used the labels when I came out to my mom which gave her a term that she could then take to the internet so she could find answers to the questions she had that I couldn’t answer or she didn’t feel comfortable asking me.

When I found the term aromantic everything fell into place for me i could relate to that very label I can remember how much I didn't want to be in a romantic relationship and how I was never interested in dating I only ever wanted to friends with the people around me the label aromantic made sense to me so I started using it and I never been happier and free

I'm AroAce and i never have used any of that stuff so that person is wrong there. I love thise label as they helped things click into place for me, made me feel less broken, alone and like i finally found myself. But i can imagene labels aren't for anybody + it's not a good idea to pick labels for anybody as they now themselfs better then we ever could. You can give them a sugestion indeed but it's up to them if they wanna use it or not.

Probably not necessary in my experience

I use microlabels. The way I see it, as long as we have words that societally we use to indicate that something is “the one way to be normal,” we NEED words to describe the other ways. Words, the ability to describe something, grants legitimacy. What goes unspoken is rendered invisible, unimportant, abnormal. We need to be able to say, “this is me, this is real, this is also normal.”
