  • For 2020, Beta’s enduro bike range is completely overhauled, with sweeping changes to engines, chassis, suspension, and bodywork. But if are you a four-stroke rider, how do you choose between the four models available? Having tested them at the Australian media launch, here’s our first impression…

Now that Gas Gas has gone, Beta is a great choice from the KTM-Husky bikes... Sadden by KTM destroying the Gas Gas!!

@@joshowens2219 Gas Gas as it was known at the time is dead, KTM (Perrier Group) bought the name/brand. The enduro bikes live on as Rieju (still produced in the Verona factory), the bikes you see as "Gas Gas" are just red KTMs. The trials line has remained somewhat separate but is now owned by KTM and will likely be stripped for tech or used as KTMs platform into the trials market.

@@krazed0451 Actually KTM built a new trials factory in Barcelona and did a total redesign for 23. They do not plan on making a KTM trials bike.

I've pretty much ridden yz450f's forever and all bullshit aside are these bikes any good, I've been thinking about getting a 300 2 smoke and yamaha only have the 250 .... ktm I'm not really a fan of so I was wondering what the 2021 beta 300rr is like

  • @justinkase1360

You mention that you think they are heavier than their competition but their specs say that they are some of the lightest. The Beta 500RR-S is listed as 245 Lbs. wet but with no fuel. The KTM 500 EXC-F is list at 240 Lbs DRY. According to dynos pulls I've seen on youtube The KTM 500 EXC-F puts down 39 hp and 27 tq while the Beta 500RR-S puts down 47 hp and 32 tq. On paper, the Beta bike should be the better performer...

That's because your going off U.S specs where they are massively detuned and full of emissions control stuff, in Aus we get the real deal fully opened up from the showroom floor both bikes are in the mid 50's hp atw. With weights also ktm's "dry" weight is all oils no fuel with the only reason why the 500exc is lighter than the 480rr is pds, the husky 501 actually weighs the same as the 480rr but when it comes to the 350's the beta's are 4kg (9lbs) heavier than the ktm. Still prefer the Beta over the Ktm all modern bikes are plenty light enough anyway

@@tcmx712 Thanks for the reply. Of course, you are correct on the US specs, it's a shame. I ended up picking up a KTM 500 XCFW after this and have to get a computer or fuel tuner to make it right. The 450s are putting out the propper power here (more than the 500s) but they are all 5 speed machines and I wanted 6. I considered the Betas but because KTM dealers are far more common here and the specs look better on paper I went KTM.

@@justinkase1360 totally understandable mate can't really go wrong with any bike these days it's a shame emissions laws are so strict over the U.S and EU, dirtbikes make a tiny amount of vehicles sold yet seem to be hit hardest by the laws it's odd. I was always ktm through thick and thin but here in aus your paying almost $2000AUD more for the ktm when they aren't really that far ahead anymore put me off them abit haha

So which one is best for hard enduro? In fact, if you had to do a 4 stroke for gnarly, slow technical terrain, which would you pick?
