    This is quite interesting (I am German relocating back home), my US resume is three pages yet with significant detail with day to day tasks. Key responsibilities makes sense, however, to have only two sentence for each role seems wild 🤔.

    It doesen't have to be german drivers license. It has to be EU drivers license. The one from Italy, Czechia or Portugal (or all the other EU countries) is valid in Germany too. I am surprised that you didn't mention 'Familienstand" in the first section.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 роки тому

      Familienstand is very old school and should have no affect on your application nowadays

    Usually HR uses some filtering software and for these softwares it matters if you’re CV is in PDF or word doc. What are your experiences?

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  6 місяців тому

      We know from a German recruiter that ATS softwares are not that big in Germany. If you apply online and have to answer some questions during the application those are usually set with filters. A CV should always be pdf and never word.

    Usually, my CV has a link to my LinkedIn profile. Is it also necessary to include a photo in the CV? And why date of birth? This can be discriminatory.
    In other video, I asked if there is age discrimination, and you didn't answer.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 роки тому

      We can only give you our recommendations of what the typical German standard of a CV is and that includes a professional headshot and your birthdate. If you are applying with young start-ups they might not care so much about the German standard, but traditional companies do. No age or gender discrimination is allowed in Germany.

    Nah, I would have to disagree. As a foreigner, who's worked with over 4 companies in Germany and closely worked with the HR. I can categorically tell you that your age is absolutely not needed neither is your nationality. Your drivers licence is only needed if you'll be on work trip a lot and I've have never included my signature in any application. And, I currently work with a super German company called Siemens.
    And the numbers of pages depend on your work experience. My CV is currently 4 pages long🤣.

      @simplegermany  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Kevin! Even though it is an advantage to be in Germany while job hunting, it is not impossible to find a job from abroad. I found mine from Hungary 😉.
      IT is such a general term, that it is hard for me to provide any concrete advice. However, I would recommend to focus on applying on startups. They are mainly in Berlin. Some examples are: Blinkist, Ecosia, and Shopify. Some of them are even 100% remote now.
      Another advice I can give to you is to have a strong LinkedIn profile. You can find a lot of interesting jobs through LinkedIn as well.
      We created a video about finding jobs in Germany without speaking English, maybe that can also be of help to you:

      We do not have a docx file, as we recommend to create your own CV with the tool resume.io. Once done you can download it from there in the format you wish.

    What about the cover letter, should we write it down in German or English in case I’m comfortable in English.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 роки тому +1

      Should be in the same language as the CV and in which you are comfortable to work. We have a written guide on the German cover letter as well: www.simplegermany.com/german-cover-letter/

    would this be the same format with the photo when applying online?

      We don't see why the format online should be different from offline. So, yes 😉

    Here's something that would prove very helpful -
    When it comes to people like me, who have been employed for over 25 years, how far back do we go on our CV?

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 роки тому +3

      In your introduction paragraph you could mention the years of experience you have and list your last four employers.

    Awesome. Please, you should make a video talking about how to write a motivation letter for an embassy or University and a presentation letter. The world will be grateful with you.

    As far as I know, a foreign drivers license is valid for 12 month. So you should say, that you ave a drivers' licence and if you get the job.... take driving lessons throughout the year of your stay in Germany.

    Saludos desde Argentina! Gracias por todos tus videos! Realmente me son súper útiles. Quería preguntarte con respecto a esto de no dejar espacios de tiempo. Por ejemplo, yo por tener que cuidar a un familiar enfermo estuve algunos meses sin trabajar. Crees que esto debería mencionarlo o es algo muy personal? Y lo mismo si me tomé tiempo para estudiar alemán. Ese tipo de cosas se suelen mencionar? Espero que me puedas ayudar. Gracias!!

      Hola Gabriela! Siento mucho leer lo de tu familiar. En relación a tu pregunta, depende del tipo de trabajo al cual quieres aplicar. Por ejemplo, en empresas super tradicionales como Bosch o Bayern, el dejar espacios de tiempo en blanco puede verse raro ante la persona (muy probablemente alemana) que lo esté leyendo.
      Sin embargo, hay muchísimas empresas en Alemania que no son tan tradicionales. Así que en base de lo que yo he observado y he preguntado, mi sugerencia sería definitivamente mencionar el tiempo que estuviste aprendiendo alemán. Creo que esto demuestra tu interés en el idioma y el querer aprenderlo. En relación al tiempo que tuviste que cuidar a tu familiar, yo no lo mencionaría en el CV. De pronto en la entrevista te pregunten al respecto y en ese caso puedes dar una explicación personal.
      Espero mi respuesta te ayude. Mucha suerte en tu búsqueda de trabajo 🍀
