So cool seeing how different things are in Japan ... like the 7-11 and ordering food. Tokyo looks so clean! Did it help you get on Japan time by pulling the all nighter? Are most signs in English or did you use an app to translate?
Most signs are in English and it’s pretty easy to navigate on Google maps. I think the all nighter did help because we were able to get on their time zone pretty quick!
long-haul flight tip: always wear compression socks! Also, a low-dose Aspirin helps prevent blood clots! And as always, bring an empty water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
Just wanted to fight jet lag as much as we could! With the time difference we were able to sleep on the plane and not be super overly tired when we got there 👍
Yes I definitely recommend United for long haul flights ✈️ We were very comfortable and even 10 hours wasn’t bad. Also helps they have the mini TVs on board, but overall 10/10 experience.
Thank you! It was just over an hour to get through customs and everything. That being said, we did all the prior online documents beforehand and that really sped up the process. Make sure to screenshot the QR codes too just in case. Hope this helps 🙂
So fun! You’re gonna have the best time :) I actually didn’t use a SIM card because my phone company had an international plan. However, I saw two or three places at the Narita airport that were advertising SIM cards, so it seemed pretty easy and affordable. I also heard portable wifi blocks are also popular for shorter trips! Hope this helps!
We carried about $500 usd each with us to Japan to exchange (equals ~ 78,000 yen). I would say we kept about 2,000 yen on us everyday for daily meals and activities and it was more than enough. Definitely heavily cash based, yes:) For a 10 day trip that was enough for us, and we only used our credit card a few times. Hope this helps!
The ichiran was our first full meal after landing, definitely hit the spot!

Great tips!
Why did you guys stay up all night - prior to the flight?
Just wanted to fight jet lag as much as we could! With the time difference we were able to sleep on the plane and not be super overly tired when we got there 👍
Its actually a breeze to get all of what you needed in Japan. But yeah, its your first time that is why you kinda dunno what to do.
Would you recommend United long haul flights? We’re the seats comfortable for 10 hours?

We are going to Japan this year. Would you say that’s it’s pretty easy to get a SIM card for data in Japan?
