The perfectionism thing and editing line by line was exactly what I did and Ruby is complete right. My way of getting round that was to hand write my essays. Because I was handwriting, I would obviously have to type it all up afterwards, and so it functionally separated the writing and the editing, so when I was typing, the meat was done and THEN I could edit them sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph. I also found it gave me the freedom to jump around the essay and write out of order and just get the good ideas down (something I really struggled with when writing directly onto a word doc). I used felt tip pens because they're really good for fast movements (vs a thinner point pen) and I colour coded by sections I thought I wanted that paragraph to go in so there was some order in the word soup. Honestly, saved my masters, I wrote every essay AND my 14k word dissertation this way.
This is exactly what I was talking about today with my mom, the fact that I have troubles to start studying and stick to a schedule and that I will need to find solutions for the next semester/ next school year Can't wait to see the video! Thank you Ruby 🌻
Also, read something about a topic that really interests you. I'm really into Astrophysics, sadly we never do Astrophysics in Physics classes. So, when I'm not motivated to study for anything at all and I have time, I give myself 15 min - 30 min to read something about Astrophysics and then I'm already in the studying mode, so I can easily change the subject as well
I literally needed this so much. Thank you for always helping us and sharing your tips. During exam season, this couldn’t have come at a better time. ❤️
I'm in the midst of exams and it's generally quite stressful with the expectations that I have of my grades. Especially since I'm in my second year which means that these grades contribute to my overall degree mark. So the end of this video really hit me and gave me more perspective to be kinder to myself and I'm just really thankful for that ❤ Good luck to everyone who's currently having exams, I'm sure we'll all do our best!
Hii!! I just posted a cute study (selfcare) vlog! Maybe you will like it? I’m very excited to know your opinion ☺️ let me know what you think! Have a great day 🌷
I love the perspective that your first draft of anything doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s comforting knowing that I’m not the only one who stresses about making every word count!! Thank you for all the study tips Ruby!!
10:25 thank you, Ruby for making me realize my problem! because this past week, I had to submit 2 long drafts and I was just sitting in front of my laptop, writing and deleting it, which resulted in not having them done AT ALL! You can't imagine the stress I've experienced. Perfectionism in essay writing is HELL! thanks, ruby (and thanks to IB for making my life miserable)
Watching this to start today's paper-writing session. Thanks for the amazing tipps. Another thing I've found to be effective, is to just write down a question like "Why is this important?" "What is one thing that is interesing about this?" etc. Great to get going, and, if you're writing a paper, you take away the pressure of writing a decent first sentence.
Something that always worked to motivate me to do school work was a desire to impress my professors with my work ethic. I would get an assignment to write an essay that would be due a month later and I would ask them to review a first draft a day or two later. I always enjoyed the look of shock they had when I handed it to them.
Maybe it's weird but i've never actually felt motivated for anything. No matter if it's something I like doing or not, I never feel like doing it. It's a constant battle of wits WANTING to do something but not feeling like it. I tend to just force myself through it and get to the feeling productive. These tips are definitely good! Love seeing how others deal with it.

So nice to hear that you too spent a long time on essays at univeristy! I've had essays for the last two weeks which we've been given 24hrs to complete, which allows for waaaaay too much time for me to write it!! My inner perfectionist has shone through!!! :')
Thanks so much for this video Ruby! I've got my first lot of exams coming up and the workload is a lot more than I expected! Your videos really help me to stay positive. Also a quick request: would you please do another readathon vlog? I love watching these videos and they are probably my favorite of your videos!

Having shower, tidying my room and feeling clean really helps my motivation but the problem is i can't find the motivation to do all of those things😂 Sometimes i have to psychologically prepare myself before an hour in order to have a shower.
Hi! Loved this video, I've been in a very unmotivated state recently. Another thing that works for me is changing my workspace! If I feel unmotivated, a lot of times it's because of my space. I'd recommend going to a coffeeshop or library, or if that's not possible, work in another room or outside!
Throughout this video, I feel like you resemble a bird flying out freely, happy to be let out of any confinements. Not that academic responsibilities are always binding, but you know what I mean. Just you travelling around in the video and your energy here made me think of it ☺️. Thank you soo much for all the tips. I have important exams right now and will try out all of your suggestions
I've read studies that having to many choices leave people paralyzed and distressed. Having less choices can really improve people's mental health. I know it's sort of a paradox. I'm really happy to see someone Acknowledge this besides psychologists and modern philosophers.
Perfect timing for me Ruby! Thanks so much for the video😊 got 2 A level exams on Monday and I’m hitting he revision👍🏼 Actually hoping to get the grades for my firm choice of Exeter to study economics! Thx again🙏 xx

As someone who's read a handful of books on building better habits and routine I can 100% confirm this is correct. Absolutely brilliant person.
