Why is it that so many of these survival "experts", do not follow simple and basic fire prevention or fire safety practices when they build these fire pits inside their shelters? We saw a total of 3 different people on season 6 catch fires to their huts by being careless or taking shortcuts. In survival, EVERYTHING has to be done right and done right the first time, otherwise failure is just short of certain. Unavoidable misfortune happens, but none of these fires were unavoidable misfortunes.
You think I should have replaced one tool I used for dozens of hours with another I did without? Taking that chance may be what got me on the show, and if you finished the season you'll notice lack of fire was not a problem.
Although I appreciate his idea of primitive fire making with the bow drill, when it gets cold to the point his motor skills are effected he may regret not bringing a ferro rod. Regardless I wish him luck.
@@BeSatori I understand what you're saying but there's is way more involved in the bow drill method. Maintaining control of the spindle, making sure the fire board remains stable, transferring the ember to the tinder bundle... may be a tad difficult when freezing your balls off. As opposed to scraping the striker across a rod directly into your tinder. In his shoes when freezing and potentially low on energy/calories I'd sooner take the simplest route.
@bali song Sounds like you're referring to making char cloth, yeah you could go that route. Bottom line is folks will go with what they're comfortable with in a survival situation. But hey neither of us made it in the show this season so our opinions on necessary items don't matter much. ✌
@@ResilienceOnPurpose No I did not. lol ...and fortunately, for the sake of my dignity, the 'neither of us made it on the show' bit was directed towards bali song and myself. lol Although God willing I may get my chance in a future season. 🙏

As long as he has shelter for the fire and plenty of firewood he can bank the fire whenever he can't tend it. He better make a secure stash of tinder and kindling while he can because he will probably let the coals die eventually.
First 5 minutes, in this guy irritated me! Shot an arrow at a squirrel before having a fire?! Then can’t even make a fire!! 🙄 I like how they keep showing the time elapsed when he was trying to start the fire🤣
Nathan is my favorite also... Good peaceful guy.
Cant wait until next week ! I am amazed he managed without a ferro rod. Great job man !
Thanks!
Passively fish with the gill net during the day, put it between trees of an evening for birds and bats.
So he takes a multitasker over a ferro rod...
I’m surprised he didn’t weld that pot together lmao
It still amazes me that hardly anyone brings a tarp, natural shelters arnt always water proof.
@Bill Randall thanks dude I didn't realise until after i sent the comment. Cheers
Very cool
Gill net, very experienced based decision! But no ferro rod, hope he wins!
He almost went without a sleeping bag when he had an option to bring one. And he brought two knives.
I know why this guy didnt win.
Yeah, what a clown
Feel bad for him. A lot of personal items went down in flames...
Your up against stiff competition Nathan so all the best to you.
Thanks a bunch Chris.

Good luck to you!
Thank you!
He's a biologist, too! Right...
No ferro rod and 2 knifes. Failed from the start.

The only one with an original thought load out.
Only one so far to bring a gill net. Smart.
Is a pocket knife really so important if you already have a small knife with you?
no, complete waste

Ferro rod requires more fine motor skills than bow drill, which is almost purely gross motor skills.

No ferel rod may be a bad decision. Caught him a lake trout in his net.
Where's that muppet bali song, to type a book sized explanation of how everything is wrong?
@bali song He's not far away after all! Where's your book of suggestions for this guy? Being lazy lately?

No ferro rod, Nathan? In the Arctic? Really?
Wow. This idiot supposedly does this for a living? Unbelievable.
Alone. On a budget.
?
in the end it wasnt making a fire that was a problem
Man! He sure is good looking!
No brain, though.
@@bigdawgj6742 🤣
@Bill Randall 😂
No fire starter? Good luck sir
Thanks b.
This guy should have brought a helmet with him. Heard a tree tell down and clattered him...
Libing with bugs and critters that can eat you plus no Shower ain't worth a half million. If you get turned into Bear schit you can't spend it anyway.
Some of us are happy to do it even for free.
Wouldn't that be 11 items counting the backpack?
Why anyone want to live alone? I don't understand.
The one who lasts the longest get like $500 000. So....
