I can't afford to get to the islands to fish anymore but really enjoy your fishing and lure videos. Tough to leader and gaff the tuna. Like you need a third hand.

I wonder if harpoons wouldn't work here. East coast tuna guys seem to use them alot.

@@General_CurtisLeMay They use harpoons a lot on giant bluefin tuna. I'm an east coaster (Mid-Atlantic) and I've never liked them. I was a professional mate for 7 years and I've never darted a fish personally and I've caught several giant bluefins. If the fish was so large that we felt the need to restrain them prior to being fully under control, a flying gaff works much better in my opinion.

Local boy now living in Sitka Alaska. Love watching you landing the ahi, have to settle for king salmon on light gear 30lb test line. Boat Maile P is 15 kings away from season record of 57 while sport fishing. Let me know if you ever make it up this way - ha!

You run all mono on the spool or do you have a braid backing incase the gorilla hits? 130/150lb mono?

I See high Carbon steel Hooks were the choice that day. also I started using Australian wind-on swivels no more taking wraps on big fish, though your limited to the LB. test that will wind thru the guides unless you went Winthrop guides and tip-top. Our Prayers.
