The scene where Joker dances down the flight of stairs took my breath away. The energy and commitment to that character by Joaquin was truly extraordinary.
Joaquin Phoenix had so many opportunities to be a part of comic book roles and he continuously turned them down. He was offered the role of Hulk and said no, he was offered the role of Dr Strange and said no, he was offered the role of Iron Man and said no, he was offered the role of Lex Luthor and said no. That was until Todd Phillips came about and presented him with a role and film that was really about mental illness, loneliness, and lack of compassion that masked a comic book theme. When you add all that together, this masterpiece was born.
From what I have seen, It is a lot more profound than a comic book character film. It looks like a screen adaptation of a novel like "A Clockwork Orange".
When People abuse you, punch you, yells at you, be mean to you, don't help you, tries to erase you, leaves you, doesn't care about you, not giving you any love, becomes antisocial because of you, treats you like trash, bullies you for what condition you have, almost killing you. That's why Joker was born
Agreed. If we put aside the comic book setting and ignore if you like how Joker story is done (comic book nerds hating the movie just because "not real Joker hurr durr...") this a fucking masterpiece of a psychological drama and social criticism.

how true. As adults we feel the weight of the world and how cruel it can be, and most of us have pretty good lives, compared to most. But who among us could endure what the joker endured in this movie and not lose themselves? I myself would likely end my own life, but if I clung to life no matter what, I would have to sacrifice my sanity to do so.
The movie really inspires you to fight back to give hope to all down trodden and hopeless individuals and not let the rich do whatever they want at the cost of us.
POV: It's actually better to listen to a someone helpless on the streets than to give him money. Because money can be used to trade things not feelings or emotions. I don't know if this ever finds you or anyone sees this but time is very important and you and everyone too. And time can used to trade happiness, joy, sadness... if someone helps you, let them because it helps them back to lessen their guilt and help them too, to do more good but know who you getting help from. Thanks if you read it cause it will help me to speak against wrong other than just watching it happen and pardon me for my bad english.
When i was a child batman was my hero but as i started growing up i find the joker makes more sense. I am not supporting the violence but i embrace the pain of the character named JOKER.
Yeah, most of the fans too dont support the violence make by Joker but the story really embrace the fact that society's violence to some rare kind of mental person formed villain😪☮️
Jokes doesn't make more sense than bats. Batman embraced vengance against injustice and joker embraced anarchy against innocent. The society made joker bad. But, ones discisons or dreams should not be affected by their surroundings or situations. Batman made right choice.
@@a.s691 If the joker wasn’t a murder he would’ve been the best ...hero????? I mean he would still commit crimes but just not kill anyone so, villain I guess???

@Anirudh Rao the audience laughed at him not because he was funny and also mostly on Murray's joke if you watch the hospital scene again you can see the kids just "laugh" or smile because they have to and his mom literally thinks he is not funny at all
The saddest thing about this movie is, that in the beginning, before he truly embraces his Joker persona, you realise that this man was capable of loving people greatly. And the society made it impossible for him to love and be loved, which is- let's be real - one of the most important things a person wants, without even realising he/she wants it.
@@CJ-lr4uq Look, daily amount of shit in our world is something different than the daily amount of shit in Gotham (as potrayed in the movie). Of course, he is the only one responsible for everything he does, but society is the thing that pushed him over the edge. It got so bad, that he thought unless and until he becomes this deadly monster who is sadistic and murderous, he will never be able to protect or love myself. In our world, their are many who are sympathetic about mental illnesses, and many who are not. But in Gotham, nobody is. They treated him like shit, and he got so fed up of it that he thought the only way to survive was to lose his sanity. And he did. When you have nothing to lose, that's when you are truly free. The villain becomes a hero because he frees others from what keeps them still in the face of so many problems, fear; fear of the consequences of directly challenging the system. The joker becomes the archetype for others because he loses the fear of what might happen to him for directly challenging the system. It is the straw that breaks the camel's back, the murder of a rich man by a "throwaway" from society/system on television. The subsequent revolution is then driven by that example, but it is the consequence of the consequence, in that it is the result of individual realization of how screwed we all are and indeed, how screwed the system/society is. Violence is a result of a subconscious desire for self-destruction also by the loss of one's own physical boundaries to what surrounds us in pursuit of that change of the maintained order (it is cause/effect, if you do something good, you expect something good, if you do something bad, you expect something bad). Then individuals are destroyed, the system is destroyed and in a general framework, order is lost and chaos appears. Chaos or anarchy would then be the true freedom of individuals, the starting point for real change. That smile painted with blood is extremely symbolic. It alludes to the fact that happiness in today's life is synonymous with madness, because in the face of so many problems that afflict the world, we should be extremely concerned and desperately trying to generate a change even with our own lives, it is madness because we are far removed from that problematic reality in our bubbles of comforts and privileges ( movie made in the "first world" for the "first world" mainly ). We live in an extremely unequal and cruel society, in a utilitarian society, but also extremely indifferent to all its problems. The joker would not have been a murderer if he had not been discarded by others, but would have been discriminated and mistreated throughout his life by others/society/system; There are physical irreversible facts (like a physical murder) but there are also metaphysical ones (like a mental and psychological murder). In that order of ideas, the joker is not the only murderer, the others are also murderers, not only those who directly generate the mistreatment, but also those who do nothing about it; those who are indifferent to the problem allow it to continue occurring. The system based on selfishness and indifference to the problems of others is smeared with blood... that smile is painted with blood, because that smile kills, indifference kills. We all have a smile painted with blood in our faces.
Yeah its good if you've already seen it but it gives away way too much!! the original trailers made me want to watch it more to be honest because there was so little explaining anything.
This film is a cautionary tale to society. You must take care of the less fortunate and those who are not mentally stable. Or else at some point, a major disaster will occur to the point where it’ll be too late to do something.
Gabreya Bradley there is a man like that in my old neighborhood, his family abandoned him and the entire neighborhood avoids him...my mom would bring him food and a (beer(lol)) every Sunday, and I would chat with him when I had the chance...he was obviously unwell but he didn’t harm anyone.. we moved recently and I shudder to think what’s going to happen to him
@@matt-tp1ww jesus. Today more than ever the world is way more conscious about helping others. Look at all the money, and supports are pouring in all over the world. None of this happened 50 years ago. 100 years ago? unheard of. Please stop making it seem like the end is near. Society is stronger than we think. If anything it's the new generation that are finally realizing the world is a tough place to be when their mommy and daddy are not helping them. We literally have a whole generation that grew up spoiled, soft and whinny. The dream home their parents gave them made them weaker.
Joker is one of the rare movies where I know exactly, in details, what the plot will be (and I am right) and yet still blows my mind away with its greatness when I actually watches it ..
This movie dragged you so hard into his life and you could feel every single minute of him becoming more and more crazy (And just because of other PEOPLE.... imagine...!)
Hatred is an underestimated emotion. If it´s strong enough, it can keep you alive even if your life doesn´t make sense. Because before you die, you first want to get your revenge, just like Joker did.
He was born in darkness and was raised in darkness and when he embraced the darkness, the world around him became brighter and the world became darker than ever.
What do you get when you take a broken, mentally unstable person, and continuously destroy what little happiness, what little joy, what little remnant of safety they have left? When you take apart someone's world and not care for the results? When you treat that person with no value or love? You get someone who has been pushed too far. You get someone who loses all of their desires, their image, their world. You get someone who will never even think twice to take it too far because it isn't too far for them. You get someone morally, mentally, and emotionally destroyed. You get what you deserve. You get a shooter. You get a madman. You get a murderer. You get a killer. You get a sociopath. You get the card left out of the deck and forgotten, yet it is the most dangerous card of all. You get a Joker.

And by the way Batman is brutally violent too.👍🏻

The saddest thing about this movie is, that in the beginning, before he truly embraces his Joker persona, you realise that this man was capable of loving people greatly. And the society made it impossible for him to love and be loved, which is- let's be real - one of the most important things a person wants, without even realising he/she wants it.
Sandali Dev Sinha well said
"Society" didn't "make" him do anything. You are *always* responsible for your own actions, no matter what.
@@CJ-lr4uq Society didnt make Arthur kill those people...
But it did push him beyond wanting to care
And he did.
You can't go on being the only good guy in the place when everybody else is capable of hurting you so badly.

The Joker
" nobody thinks about what it's like to be the other guy.'
