    5G Home Internet Speed Test - Indoor External 5G Antenna VS Outdoor External 5G Antenna
    So in this video I'm comparing the performance of indoor external antennas compared to outdoor external antennas and specifically their 5G wireless Performance.
    I'm using the ZTE MC801A 4G 5G wireless router which has had the TS9 port to SMA port modification by Router-Mods.co.uk
    The indoor external antennas are your basic "bunny ears" type that are both 4G and 5G compatible and the outdoor external antenna being used is the Bluespot Mini 5G.

    The message at the end is what you need to listen to about his setup may not work for you ,i would suggest you use a 5G data sim in your phone and see what kind of signal your getting before commiting to any setup
    If you do get signals from your phone buy your sim from 3 under a buisness line (can make a sole trader up) for 10 pounds a month and buy your router from ebay for 120 pounds 😊 zyxel three branded 5g router

      Agreed. Zyxel NR5103e is unlocked for all isp and has 4 external ports TS9. The rabbit ears antenna does not improve on the internal antenna performance so unless you intend to site it at a window and use exterior antennae 4x4 MIMO you are better off saving money with no antennae or buying a combination of modem and antenna for exterior fixing

    I had the same ZTE MC801A router from Three, was getting 100-105 db signals with 30-60 Mbps on speedtest. Switched to ZTE MC7010 with a Smarty SIM and I get 80-85 db signals with 450-500 Mbps, the best part is that the ping went from 67 to 15 ms and gaming is so smooth.

      Hi. Yes, you can sometimes see a big difference between different routers. This will be because of the bands that each router locks onto and some bands carry higher data rates than others. Routers don't always lock onto the bands that will give the fastest signal and they also sometimes don't lock onto the band with the best S/N, especially if there are multiple cell towers and frequency bands within reach. Cheers, Dave.

    Wow! Lucky you!
    I am off grid, and I use the Netgear Nighthawk M1 4G SIM CARD router ( that your sponsors also list)
    I had a great improvement, about 3x better Upload and Download…..which is probably even more significant than your results, as I had a very poor signal before. I ran my tests at different times of day, about 30 times each.
    I have also added an external antenna, but I am limited by the antenna cable length, which is 5m. Results were only slightly improved, however bear in mind my antenna ideally should be located higher than it is.
    Strangely, like you, my Ping did get slightly worse, by about the same degree as yours, but the trade off in Upload and Download speeds is worth it.
    So if you need a decent SIM card router, don’t waste your money on the cheaper £50-£100 units, they are a bit hit and miss, instead invest more to get solid results.
    (Just ran a test, 53 mbps Down, 7.5 Up, Ping 39.)

      Yes, definitely don't go for a cheap router. As for the latency getting slightly worse. Just like you said, I would easily put up with that if the tradeoff is getting much better upload and download speeds. Cheers, Dave.

    I’m really thinking about this for my next update on my internet. I was paying £65 a month with virgin for 500 but have since been on a plan for £20 at 1gig. I know this can’t last forever so I will be looking into this. I know I have a three mobile 5g mast right down my road in clear view and I know that if I had one it would be fast from speed tests on my phone at the back of my house. The only thing stopping me is the upfront cost for a good router and an external pointed antenna. I know I can get business grade sims for like £200 in the uk for two years so it’s gonna be brilliant when it’s setup. Works out to be like £10 a month ish with an upfront cost of 350 for the tech.

      Hi, Mark. You are very welcome 👍 Yes, these things can be a pain as far as the setup is concerned. However, in the right situation or if there's no alternatives, then this type of internet connectivity can be a real blessing. As for the external antenna. Yes, it's something that most people don't want or don't need. Although it is good to have the options for those who don't mind the extra messing about. The internal antennas on this router are better than my phone. Placed in the position, my phone will only pick up 4G but the router will pick up 5G. You will generally find that routers have a more sensitive antenna system compared to a phone and a router’s antennas are higher gain. Cheers, Dave.

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  Рік тому +2

      @@JoergAsmussen The difference between the indoor external antennas and the router’s internal antennas is very minimal. The only real difference with these things is if you are using outdoor antennas and they are within range of the cell towers. As for just one antenna. In most scenarios there’s not been a huge a difference in my tests. I’ve also disconnected various combinations of the internal antennas for 4G and 5G and even with just one 4G internal antenna connected the difference can be very minimal, especially if you’re in a good reception area to start off with. If you’re looking for advice, do not get a modification unless you are using good outdoor antennas and you are within the range of your local cell towers and preferably within direct line of sight with no obstructions. It's all about the ping. If you play on fast-paced games like shooters or driving games, you might not even get into a lobby above 50mS. At 200 mph, a car game makes your car jitter on screen, making them unplayable or cause issues with sim racing leagues. Mine is 34mS, and I have the odd issue. 5G in its current form is borderline for competitive gaming.

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi, Kelvin. Yes, latency is the main thing for gaming, especially fast paced shooters (I play Warzone Mobile). 5G is great for speed for downloading and uploading if you have a fast speed, my fastest is about 600Mbs download but the latency is about 40 to 60ms, which isn’t great for fast shooters. However, my upload is about 75Mbs, which is awesome for uploading my UA-cam videos. That all said, for gaming, I use a standard landline phone connection. This is only about 8Mbs down and about 2Mbs up but the latency is about 12ms to local servers, which is way better than my 5G for gaming. Cheers, Dave.

      I really hope the fibre sector pulls their finger out. 5G was 700mbps down, 70mbps up & 34mS when I first bought it but because Three basically rule my area, the traffic has got higher and higher over the past few years meaning peak times only offer 20mbps down, 60mbps up & 34mS ping on occasion.

      Yes, the ping changes between 4G and 5G. My antenna cables are 3 metres. I can almost guarantee you that the TS9 ports will snap off when connecting external antennas. Even the weight of the antenna cables is enough to snap them off. this is why the SMA conversion is recommended, as these are physically stronger ports with massively better strain relief. The point is this, outdoor antennas are often 5g. But they are hardly 4g/5g, I have seen some for 4x4 5g mime, if you are in an area where you do not have good coverage, the external antennas would only be needed for 5g, they would also be needed for 4g. Because 5g may be solo, but it's more likely that it needs the support of 4g to work. Give me a list of routers with 4g external antennas. Then any modifications can be made ok, but we are getting to the complexity of cell phones with 8/12 antennas or more, and it is unthinkable that Montini 8/9 antennas also in translated polarization. I 5g router with external 4g antennas have not seen any. Of course they have also modified the chateau with 8 antennas but it seems to me that there is an open discussion on what to connect compared to what.

    Will these wifi antennas also work for 4G, in our country we still don't have 5G? I heard these TS9 ports only works for 5G

    • @Hellmiauz
      @Hellmiauz Місяць тому +1

      The antenna may be 4G/5G but this specific router only uses it for 5G. So for this specific router the external antenna will do nothing if you don't have 5G.

    The length of the cables will increase the ping. To shorten the cables, be sure to place the router/modem closer to the area where the antenna is mounted.

      No but it can cause signal loss. Cheers, Dave.

    "outdoor external antennas" should be song of the year

  • @DardaniaLion
    @DardaniaLion 3 місяці тому

    The outdoor antenna will lose signal because of the length. That’s why you have high ping. An amplifier would do great job.

    Do you have routers for band 66?

  • @ppson
    @ppson 5 місяців тому

    Kind of a big mistake to not use the same server for all Speedtest runs... this might explain the difference in latency.

      One server in London and one in Manchester.

      20db+ is the perfect signal in terms of LTE A , 5G NR . Just chek if ur on dual band or single band on thoose readings

    Hi David - is it possible to have this Indoor Antenna setup on one side of the house - but if ive got a very large floor plan, how would I extend the signal to other parts of the house? - apologies as very new to this.

    • @simontillson482
      @simontillson482 9 місяців тому

      WiFi is what delivers the signal to your devices, and that will cover most of your street, never mind your house! You only need one 4G/5G router for one house - it can connect 30 or more devices at the same time no problems. Hope that helps.

    Man in your blue screen comparison is mbit not Mb/s you making review and you don't know difference between 😂😂 your 453Mb/s is 3624mbit so you have internet from other planet 🤣

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  Рік тому +2

      The joke’s on you. The small b means bit and a large B is byte. So, 453Mb/s is 453 Magabits per second, not 3624. You FOOL 😂😂😂😂

    • @rationalism_communism
      @rationalism_communism Рік тому

      8 bits = 1 byte the small b is bit so 453Mb/s is correct.

    Its good for netflix and emails and movies but for gaming no i had 400mbit/s and still cannot play properly call of duty ping was 36-50ms and ingame experience shuddering freezes so its not good for gaming fps thats for fibre even if you have 10mb fibre connection ping would be 15-20ms

      @@xxx17romnI don't get that with this router. I play battle royale fast paced ping sits at 40~ I think you have bad signal in your place. Try with an antenna.
