That is such a cool-as groove ...and man you literally embody that groove when you teach it to us eager souls!! Thanks heaps!!! ...and people of Drumeo - love your session - could you please have one vertical point-of-view camera directly atop the drummer so we can see the placement of the drum elements and the flow of how he plays?
I’m sorry to say this brother….Stanley Randolph should have had at least million views, On this all time Stevie Wonder beat “Superstition “ , Amazing flavor you play the best one I have heard of on YT drums only, Rock on bro!
For all the doubters - There aren't doubled bass drums on the intro, no, but there are throughout the rest of the song. I too was shocked to discover it, as it's not immediately obvious in the mix of the original record. However, there is a multitrack file doing the rounds of the actual session, and if you get it, you can clearly hear doubled kicks throughout... Also, to mirrors points made, there is no strict pattern to either the swung hihat notes, the ghosting on the snare, or the pushing of bass drums. Stevie, on the original, is playing a groovy jam, not a strict prescribed part. There's no need to be too Nazi on trying to play this song verbatim, it's just a feel, based around swung hats and 4-on-the-floor bass drum The one thing that does fuck this part though is PLAYING IT TOO FAST, a crime of which 90% of bands are guilty... Sit back on it, and stick to your guns. Not everything is improved by speeding it up, this song especially
Hearing AND seeing that is why I'm so GREATFUL I'm Alive!! I loved the drum lesson at the various tempos, and the ending made my body get the chills. Drumeo!! Stanley!! Thank you!! :D
Sir obviously a great job. Love that you show the main grove and then show how to make it your own. Very cool and chill. l learned lot from this video, THANK YOU FOR POSTING. Also love your philosophy on drumming and how relaxed you are when you play. Keep on grooving Sir. Best, m
This is great, on the original there's a greater variety on the hi hat which is really noticeable on the beginning- lots of slight opening and closing or hitting with perhaps different parts of the stick? There are also doubles on the bass drum from where the horn section comes in at 'a 13 month old baby' then. throughout the rest of the song
I am a rock fan. I wondered throughout the 1980s and 1990s who was the drummer on this song. I thought it was amazing. Had no idea this was Stevie Wonder until the mid 2000s. Stevie is my #2 drummer after John Bonham. He is in the line of best singers with Lennon, McCartney, Elvis, Marvin, Little Richard. He writes songs like Dylan, Lennon, Neil Young, Smokey Robinson. maybe the best musician we've seen.
If my memory is correct , Jeff Beck played this. Stevie got inspired , and said " I'm paying for the( recording) session". He wrote the tune and Beck Bogart + Appice recorded it 1st. But Stevie had THE Hit .
Maybe hard to understand for a beginner. He's using his main double pedal's left board as a main(right) kick and the hi-hat is remote one with a cable.
Great lesson, i thought it was just a basic rock groove all this time. Side note: I'm watching with headphones and for the price of those DW9000 pedals($650 US) cant believe how squeaky it sounds. Can't unhear it.
Great all time groove right there. Dope Jordans. Those the V's? Which ones(remakes)? Love the snare sound. What do you do for that fatness with the tuning and such?
So happy to find this. It blew my mind when I found out that Stevie wrote and played all his drum parts.
Eric Clapton called him the greatest drummer of his generation. Same could be said for pretty much every instrument he touched!
Jeff Beck wrote this drum part though
Fantastico! Un modo per imparare
@@stefanopisi75 ul7o7
@@DonPasquale_and it’s possible that Cozy Powell contributed some of the tracks too.
The beat by itself is so amazing I could just listen to it for hours on end.
the funk is strong with this one
or: the 'groove' is strong with this one :)
..into exile I go must..
No El Shitto on that.
may the funk be with you :)
He’s no Luke, he is more like Mace Windu with Bernard Purdie being Obi-Wan.
Kick drum: 1:49
Hi-Hat: 2:18
Snare: 2:44
Possibly the funkiest drums ever written. Masterpiece.
Seems so easy, but so complicated at the same time. You make it look so easy
Watched the entire lesson and each time he played the groove I was really hoping that bassline would just kick in! :P
Steven Jacob Same here!
It's not a bass, Its a Clav
@@raffy8266 haha yeah definitely a clav! I meant bassline in the form of any low-pitched instrumental line :)
Yeah😀
Also the clav
yesss !! New Stanley Randolph stuff on drumeo always make me happy ! One of my favourite drummer !!
God bless drumeo, Stevie Wonder and Stanley Randolph ...you for a fantastic lesson...wooh

Very cool drum set up, it's like a right hand set up mixed with a left. Great drumming, hits right to the heart
I got to know about Stanley and his concert in London in 2005. So glad he’s doing tutorials.. my favorite drummer
Thanks! teaching my son to play this on drums while I'm singing and on keys. He's only 7. Great lesson
Stanley Randolph, what an amazing guy and drummer ! He plays the drum part and I can hear the song, wow !
I’m sorry to say this brother….Stanley Randolph should have had at least million views, On this all time Stevie Wonder beat “Superstition “ , Amazing flavor you play the best one I have heard of on YT drums only, Rock on bro!
Absolutely agree!

Absolutely spot on, the groove and feel is critical, the exact placement of each hit in the song is not.
WarrenWoodcraft amen. People tend to think speed=excitement, but what it becomes is a groove killer for songs like this.
Dude is playing music! Not just a drum 'beat'! 🙂🙂🙂
Nahhh, it‘s just a drum beat.
Not only great instruction, but an inspired funk explosion at the end that I can't wrap my head around. Awesome.
Hearing AND seeing that is why I'm so GREATFUL I'm Alive!! I loved the drum lesson at the various tempos, and the ending made my body get the chills. Drumeo!! Stanley!! Thank you!! :D
Mary sweet mother of Moses the sound of that kick and snare make me happy ;) Excellent job explaining this groove!
I so love this. He rips. And he inspires!

Wow. Blown away by your ability and the sound of your kit

He's is Stevie's concert drummer.
You are amazing!! Love your groove. Natural talent.
Grandma called, she needs her hat back for church.
Dame
That's a Billy Jack hat. Grandma's hat is red
Nahh chief he rocks that hat
Obviously you dont know what kinda hat that is lol
This is church. Get with it. All hail the funk.

loves jamming on bass with this dude!
I heard Jeff beck came up with this drum beat. Like Stevie heard JB messing around on the drum kit and Stevie said wait and sat down and played this.
The best tutorial I ever seen!!!
So fluid, Fundamentally sound, Great job bro !
Such a great drum part! it's so iconic! Thank you for teaching it!
A+ for style dude...that hat, oh man that hat! Keep it groovin man!
If my pedal and throne doesn't squeak, will I still be able to play the groove properly?
Cody Johnson i don't think so, man !
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥🔥🤦♂️
Requisito indispensable... Ja, ja, ja,
May be you are a big man for say so....
Stanley Randolph- My new go to! Broke it down nicely. Great approach an d good vibes. I'll keep an eye out . Thank you.
If my memory is correct , Jeff Beck played this. Stevie got inspired , and said " I'm paying for the( recording) session". He wrote the tune and Beck Bogart + Appice recorded it 1st. But Stevie had THE Hit .
I have the distinct impression that he only stops drumming when he's asleep , and even then his snoring sounds funky
oooooooooooh!! Time to go and practice!
yooo!! Jordan Vs! My fave sneaker of all time!
He got funk in his veins. Awesome! 🔥🔥🔥
So 'that' is the groove that Jeff Beck was laying down when Stevie first heard it and said 'keep doin' what your doin' !
You know it's actually the mighty Stevie playing on this track!
You know he's actually the drummer for the mighty Stevie and plays this track on every tour ?
Fun Fact: Jeff Beck came up with this beat and Stevie wrote the song around it
He’s an excellent teacher
Thanks great video Tremendos help so were your drum notes keep putting up The Groove’s
Can you explain to 5.13 at the end 😂🤣 ,
I was in Paris Bercy in 2008 for the Stevie’s concert , what a great memory, thank you… and so funky
Hi Stan! you the man, I miss ya as a drummer and as a human being! remember yellow flowers???? hehehehe. Blessings bro
I like this guy! Great Groove very cool feel! I give this an 11
Great lesson!
Proud of you lil bro!
never mind the groove - I WANT THAT KIT!
God...6:30 that fill...
so fluent 👌🏼
i love this man
So satisfying to hear him play! :D
Nice kit! Love the groove too.
Unreal Stanley 🔥
I'll never understand that kit
What's so hard to understand?
Maybe hard to understand for a beginner. He's using his main double pedal's left board as a main(right) kick and the hi-hat is remote one with a cable.
His kit is like a parallel world
His kit is a left handed and right handed kit in one.
lmao
Nicely done, Stanley.
Great lesson, i thought it was just a basic rock groove all this time. Side note: I'm watching with headphones and for the price of those DW9000 pedals($650 US) cant believe how squeaky it sounds. Can't unhear it.
best funky song ever! good lesson!
I really like his tom setup on both sides of the high hat.
J'adore le groove de Stanley
I like how the hihat loops around on the original...to finish the phrase (and a 3 and a 4 e and). That's badass. :)
Ermmm...that looks very easy :) Thanks
Great all time groove right there. Dope Jordans. Those the V's? Which ones(remakes)? Love the snare sound. What do you do for that fatness with the tuning and such?
Cool. You ROCK !!!!
Very nice! great drummer right there..! One of my faves!
Stanley is super cool!
Awesome, love it ! God bless you!
super awesome! Love it.
Yes SIR! Thank you for playing this song properly. Didn’t Stevie Wonder originally play the drums on his early recordings?
Look at the marks on his snare, so focused around that area!
I love this guys drum setup :)
Love this groove
1:24 that groove
Thanks for the lessons, super sick!
Very advanced is the force with this one
Stanley when is your drum book coming out??
Yeah fantastic, You're awesome! 😎
great chops bro and technique man I love it
That groove/solo you ended with is off the charts! Not fair that an individual can be so good! Or so liberals would have it
Ya'll notice how musical the smooth throw off was @5:28 secs? Lol crazy
It sounds so easy and ITS SO HARD
It sounds very cool!!!
Nice groove
Thanks so much for sharing! I used to play this song in a cover band and I was NOT playing it right...
Really Cool Stanley
Insane❤
Thanks!
Wonderful 👏
Very good . Somewhat like Sir Duke if I'm not mistaken
A overused term these days, I know, but Stevie Wonder is a genius and he would only have a drummer of the calibre of Stanley Randolph playing for him.
Would somebody please put some CRC on his throne!!
nice breakdoiwn thanks man
How are you doing that double-kick so well?
Thank You Very Funky Much!
Saludos desde la mística Xaman Ha
Interesting setup
What type of snare drum did he use? Loved the muted sound it had
It wouldn't matter what snare you use. Put an old unused head on top, a t-shirt, tons of moongel, and you can also get that sound.
Storm Hummelvoll Andersen he uses drumdots
I liked Vanilla Fudge version with Carmine. Great job 👍 though
It's amazing!
