That you could see the Rinngean before he got hit, is an animation mistake. It wasn't supposed to be shown until Naruto's Rasenshuriken (it isn't shown in the manga).

Yeah it’s shame the animators dropped the ball here since it usually dampens the surprise of Madara using the rinnegan to absorb the rasenshurikan
no it was not a mistake even in manga madara in that scene had the rinnegan but he changed it to mangekyo sharingan to block narto attack cause it he didn't need the rinnegan

The way this fight escalates is just incredible . First madara pulls up . Opens with some taijutsu and base sharingan genjutsu . When he got a hit from temari , he goes for ninjutsu . And adds that to the mix . When he gets attacked by naruto's rasengan , he goes for susanoo and ems . And when naruto dares to attack him with rasenshuriken , he goes for rinnagan and it's powers .

Madara may have the best introduction in anime history . Pulls up . No one who's how the hell he's here . Kills a few hundred . Then shocks with a rinnagan . Proceeds to drop 2 mountains on the rest . Finally killed 20000 . Tried to summon a beast like a pet that literally scared the shit out of everyone till now and then went for one of the most unique abilities of the series just for a " check " . 🙂

i mean aizen..? faked his death bcs he planned ichigo would pull up to soul society. defeated a captain with no effort. played everyone including the head captain. got what he wanted from soul society and left with captains around him. and he planned some things way before ichigo even came to soul society
THIS is how you live up to 300+ chapters of buildup and hype. The casual flexes Madara pulls are INSANE, and you've not even seen half of them yet.
They tease Madara for the last freaking forever, and he finally shows up and doesn't disappoint. Kishimoto sure knew what he was doing. What he didn't know is how to kill off such an OP character.
The problem was he made him too strong to begin with

Actually he knew the perfect way to kill him off ! Basically he did what Death note's author did. Someone with this much talent and power is bound to get killed by their own arrogance and their madness. Which is basically what happenend since he thought of Black Zetsu as his will so basically he dug his own grave and it's actually clever. Especially if you add the irony of the guy who never liked having someone behind his back.
I don't remember which ending it was but there was one that portrayed Madara looking at himself as a hero even though he doesn't realize he's the bad guy. He thought he was a hero but not only he was tricked by a fake prophecy on a stone table but he was denied an epic battle... So yeah personnally although I felt the same way as many people when I saw that moment years ago for the first time in the manga I realize now it's actually perfect and the character deserved it.

Fun fact, when madara asked “can you dance too?” The word Dance in this cortex is actually a very old word for fighting in Japanese. Its implied that he uses the word to express the level fun he has in regards to fighting, so watch out for that. It’s also fitting because he’s literally from the war era.
Madara feels like god of war Ares in Greek mythology. He not only fights, he also relishes the battles.
You know there's no hope when this guy shows up and destroys everything with his dance. Always a great moment when I see this scene

I think people fell in love with Madara because despite all of his strength, he's not afraid to use it on weaker opponents. Whereas, Hashirama who is even more powerful than Madara (at this point) would hold back and go a lot easier on weaker opponents. That's why anti-heroes are more bad ass and beloved than main characters. It's coz they just don't give af.
But Hashirama is amazing no doubt. Crazy to think before the end of the War, 16 year old Naruto & Sasuke had already surpassed him respectfully. Wish we got to see more Hashirama before then tho.
Hashirama didn't fight this Madara tho. This Madara with rinnegan, Hashirama cells, and need I say unlimited chakra is on a completely different level than Hashirama

Anybody with a sharingan can control the nine tails if they're strong enough. Danzo was planning to control it, but he was strong enough only because of the 1st Hokage's cells.
Anyone with *Mangekyou Sharingan.
Itachi, Sasuke, Obito, Madara, Shisui and Fugaku (Sasuke’s father) are the only ones we know of.
Probably a bunch of other Uchiha who had awakened it could do it as well.
Danzo was strong enough without Hashirama's cells. he wanted Hashirama's cells so he could control Kurama without using the sharingan

In 2014 I was eating when I started up this episode. The second Madara started going crazy I went into complete focus/hype mode. Needless to say that meal was not finished that day.

To offer some clarity regarding controlling the nine tails; only an Uchiha who has awakened Mangekyo can control a tailed beast. If you think back to Sasuke vs Itachi Itachi confirms this to be true. So technically speaking if the nine tails wasn’t sealed in Naruto Sasuke could control him.
you don't need a Mangekyou he who shouldn't be named didn't use a Mangekyou to do so

@@IM.98 Don't spoil it for others. Also, he already had a Mangekyō, since the kyūbi attack happened a year after you-know-who died. They just didn't show it because when we see that flashback we don't know who he is yet and it would be really fucking obvious if he just whipped out Obito's sharingan

Actually, if Naruto dies while Nine tails is sealed in him, he dies too [which is why the nine tails helped Naruto all of these times] although he would be eventually reborn [for who knows reasons when you kill a tailed beast they just respawn a few years later]
I felt the same way when i first saw this episode. Literally speechless
It's crazy how, looking back at the Orochimaru vs Hiruzen in OG Naruto, no one had any idea how significant Hashirama was, until they saw Madara mop the entire Allied Shinobi Forces here, and then realize Hasirama was EVEN stronger than that lmao. (minus the meteors)
No one had any idea about that because, the writer did not know either.
This was not pre-planed. Hiruzen was supposed to be the strongest hokage. He was called The God of Shinobi in OG Naruto. He is said to be the strongest when Kage alive, even as an old man.

I love how this episode hypes the strength of both Madara and the 1st Hogake as shinobi.
Madara by effortlessly decimating the Shinobi Alliance, and the 1st Hogake by the fact he was able to best Madara back in the day.
I think putting a tailed beast in genjutsu isnt as impressive as forcing it to make a pact with you so that you can summon it. But I'm not sure.

It's one of the abilities of Ms . Controlling a tailed beast . Exactly as obito did against the leaf and madara did against hashirama ( obito couldn't further summon kurama cause minato sealed their contract . When you use your Ms to control a beast , it's like a forced contract with chakra rather than blood . See how kurama says " the chakra that summons me " ) but the Uchiha can do another unique thing that's totally different . Exactly how yagura was controlled by obito . Obito just like sasuke did against naruto once in the start of shippuden , entered his syche . And put the tailed beast and jinchuriki under genjutsu at the same time . Thus Controlling a perfect jinchuriki . Exactly how sasuke put all the tailed beasts under genjutsu at the end 👍
@@stark0168 see but this came up somewhere else, it's not a MS ability, it's just genjutsu, their eyes dont have an ability that's specific to a tailed beast, their just using genjutsu on an animal, and you need a strong one because it's a tailed beast, which is why I thought they needed a contract... but honestly the only reason I think that is because I think it's stupid if they have a specific ability... I mean, you notice that sasuke controls them physically by sealing them with planetary devastation and siphoning the chakra instead of genjutsu and them fighting next to him. We don't know what madara's abilities are cuz it seems he's allowed to do anything, or itachi's dad who claimed to be able to control the ninetails, and obito just let it run wild.

One of the greatest episodes in all of the Shippuden and Naruto in general. Easily top 5.
And once again some sakuga greatness brought to us by Hiroyuki Yamashita. Some of the best fights in Shippuden were animated by him. The man is a legend.
You guys were talking about masked man and madara so I wanted to clear something up that you already heard (but since I've seen it multiple times) masked man, claiming to be madara, said that he gave nagato the rinnegan...
The first glimpse of the Rinnegan was an animation error, he wasn’t supposed to have it til he absorbs the shuriken
In this episode Madara was like a badass lawn mower and the shinobi alliance was like grass.

This is the best execution of hype in the show... and imo you still have the best fight scene and most shocking scene coming... the war arc is so much better than expected due to other anime doing the same thing but it basically is just an excuse to mix up fights.
yeah and they get to skip all the fillers so it's an even better experience
A legendary episode for sure, good eye catching the Rinnegan before it was "announced" by the way. No pun intended. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed to be an editors mistake during the production of the episode that the eye was revealed that early.

Devi you were right, @ 5:32 that indeed was Rinnegan. Then he switch back to EMS.
Devi activated her Sharingan at that point. I still remember the month and the year i saw this ep, Sep 2013.
I also rememeber catching the fact that he had already switched to Rinnegan at that moment then back to EMS. I also questioned it at first then went back and saw...it was indeed Rinnegan.

Fun fact: Madara's meteor jutsu "Tengai Shinsei" requires both Rinnegan powers and Mangekyou powers by doing 3 simultaneous handseals using the Susanoo, and he basically just uses the Deva Path (Pain) ability to pull entire meteors from space
Fun fact: This BS headcanon. There is no confirmation that he actually pulled meteors from space. He could‘ve easily created chibaku tenseis somewhere else with this technique and move them above the clouds like Sasuke did with ONE rinnegan vs Naruto

Devi has good eyes (no pun intended). Madara actually had the Rinnegan earlier in the episode. It was later discovered to be an out of order couple of frames that was put in the wrong sequence during the fight.

Iirc it had been 7 years between the first mention of Madara until his first true appearance. Imagine the suspense waiting to finally see this dude in action.
He has rinnegan in the middle of the fight because the editors probably forgot about it before the episode was released
how he got the meteorites, im guessing thats why he made his two sided susanoo, which even did hand signs, was that so he can pull in meteorites like the universal pull from such far away outside the earths atmosphere.

When Madara looks up at Naruto’s Giant Rasengan, the animators made a small but critical mistake in showing Madara with a Rinnegan when he was supposed to be using his Sharingan still.
