      Thats the facts, me, I rarely drop say more than a whole hawk full on a complete home as my trowel is much bigger than my hawk, I've had to let go many guys in the past as by the time they were done they would drop 2 to sometime 4 wheel barrels of mud.
      When this nonsense occurred I would tell those same guys at the end of the day to shovel up the mud and put in buckets to help them understand, politely, that they drop too much.
      Cheers,

      Traditional tar or building paper will not last as long as tyvek. They dry out and get brittle. Now how long they last is another question dependent on the climate. In the southwest they will not last as along as in the cooler parts of the country.
      Cost is another factor vs longevity. Traditional building paper lasts a long time and is cheaper.

    kirk, what do you recommend for drip sill around an exterior wall that has a treated wood base at 90 degrees direct to concrete. I have some ideas, but would like to get your opinion, is there a specific metal drip guard for such? Love your videos very informative.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 років тому +1

      Hi Mia dude, I use a weep screed to go below the mud sill in order to protect this wood plate,
      some jobs require a Z flash first if the concrete foundation protrudes too far past the shear wall cladding to protect this mud sill, then you counter the Z flash with a metal drip screed,

  • @seamusmccarty4626

    Not that it matters too much but can’t tyvek only go one way? that patch you put for the wire was upside down. Also does it matter which one you put first tarpaper or tyvek? My thought because tyvek is breathable you would want it on the outside layer so air coming from the outside could help with water evaporation.

    Why is it necessary to use so many nails/staples at specific distances when your just holding the stucco wrap in place till you go over the same wrap/paper with wire mesh and staples at required (by coded) spaces to hold the wire down? The staples used to hole the wire down will automatically hold the wrap in position and it seems like your putting more unnecessary holes in the wrap?

    K, I just admire your work and knowledge, have a pretty stupid question, would appreciate your reply... • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  7 років тому +4

      Howdy Jay Dude, no worries as it's a question I'm asked often, it really is confusing, it's the terminology.
      Cement plaster is a term or word most folks used for cement plaster and stucco, with stucco you add sand with cement you add rocks.
      The Grey Portland cement is simply the binder that keeps either the sand, (stucco) and or rocks, (Cement) together.
      Both stucco and cement are grey in color when dry.
      The terminology is often confusing,
      Another example is most folks call stucco, plaster, mud, muck render, mortar or cement plaster all terms sort of mean the same thing however if you really wish to know, Stucco or cement plaster is used for exteriors only.
      Plaster is a term used for interior unless the word cement is used in front of the word plaster
      "Then to further complicate a simple matter of terminology in the UK, they call Stucco and cement plaster mainly Rendering, as in applying cement plaster.
      Other areas use different terms too but most cement plaster are naturally grey in color as the Main ingredient in cement plaster is Portland Cement, as I said before Portland cement is Grey.
      FYI, when I use either term I'm simply reaching out to others in different countries who wish some information while I'm still kicking, who knows tomorrow I might be worm food, I wish to share the knowledge, we all have quirky habits, explaining what I'm good at raises my self esteem a wee bit and every bit helps.

      The drip can go over house wrap and then seal the drip top edge with straight wrap (one to two inches over), then building paper over that. Normally you put drip, then straight flash over top edge of drip to seal it. House wrap over both. Tape bottom edge about a quarter inch onto the drip, then building paper over. (bld. paper optional) hope that helps

    Are all the house's in the US built out of wood. Do you ever render over brick houses? Think I'd sooner quit plastering if i had to do that every single time. Ball ache

      Greetings Jamie, no, we use wood framing here as it's still readily available.
      After all the worlds forest is gone, the powers that be will find a new resource.
      We have plastered over strawbale homes as well as block and brick too.
      Peace, love, and happiness being plastered

      Howdy, it's called a, Stinger CH38-2 Hammer Cap Stapler, 3/8", very similar to the hammer tacks we use for two ply paper.😉
