I believe the noise you heard after the second "wave goodbye, now" was Tori slamming into a pedal on her piano, you can hear the tension in the strings, she's so connected with her instrument she can make it talk in ways most people wouldn't think of.

Must go back to this album again. I played it to death when it came out. Time to play it again!

The layering in this track is simply exquisite. Tori is just such an incredible artist - loved her since she broke on to the music scene back in the 90's. Beautiful song from one of my favourite albums 💖💖😎

One of, if not my favorite Tori song. One of the best break-up songs ever, I love the lyrics. And as a fan of Neil Gaiman and the Sandman, I love that reference toward the beginning. There's something so melancholy, and yet grand about the music. But you're right, those pauses, and those moments of hesitation is great. That sound you thought was something closing I think is her jamming on the sustain pedal before the comes in with the crash of music.

Nice observation. I was never sure what that sound was.

For me, Spark was her greatest single. Incredible songwriting. The live album To Venus and Back is astonishing.

Especially if you know that she just suffered a miscarriage before. "She's convinced she could hold back a glacier, but she couldn't keep baby alive. Doubting if there's a mother in there somewhere". Here lyrics are allways so personal and deep!

"Neil says 'hi' by the way" is a reference to Nail Gaiman - author of Sandman and prolific Twitter Lefty. They are old pals, apparently.
"Tear in Your Hand" always felt a little more "pop" and radio-ready than the rest of the album. I'm pretty sure she abandoned it pretty early on as far as inclusion in live shows, etc. That bums me out a bit because I feel like he's one of those artists who needlessly ran away from her Pop chops to sing nonsense lyrics like "tuna, rubber, little blubber in my igloo" instead. Bjork was the same way... A great Pop singer/songwriter and creative force who felt compelled to prove to everybody how weird she was. Kate Bush was always good at keeping one foot in each world.

When she wrote that line they hadn't yet met, but Rantz gave Neil a copy of a demo with this song at a comic convention with Tori's number on it.

Love and Rockets 🚀 should be a crossover reference suggestion
