    Great info. I might finally check out U-Boote Westwärts, haven’t seen it yet. And I do admire that British historian as well!

    These early Uboats was a prime time for hunting. The Brits didn't go for the submarine stuff (said it was not sportsmanlike) so Germans essentially had the monopoly and took advantage. Furthermore there was very little in the way of detecting uboats compared to latter WW2 where the Allies widely had ASDIC (sonar detection). But the uboats were primitive as hell... bad range, bad periscopes, bad batteries, limited torpedo capacity, etc.
