A first glimpse of The Royal Ballet's Illustrated 'Farewell' with Twyla Tharp

Twyla Tharp occupies a rare position in choreography: she is as much an innovator of contemporary dance and theatre as she is a major ballet choreographer. She has created more than 160 works for dance companies, film and Broadway. She now makes a long overdue return to The Royal Ballet - more than twenty years after her first work for Covent Garden - to create a new work, The Illustrated ‘Farewell’, that returns to and expands upon 1973’s As Time Goes By.
In As Time Goes By Tharp set the final movements of Haydn’s ‘Farewell’ Symphony. For The Illustrated ‘Farewell’ she completes the symphony by setting the first two movements, creating a ‘prequel’ to her era-defining work from 1973.

Have known the name, Twyla Tharp, since I was a child and marveled at her choreography. This was the first time seeing and listening to her. She's a total delight.

I cried a bit, Steven was very humble while he was talking to Twyla I think that was very adorable, I wish I had the chance to spend some time with Twyla and taught by her wisdom!
She's incredibly articulate, personable, intellectual as well as energetic.
Twyla is basically that really cool sassy aunt in your family. I just wanna sit down with her with a glass of wine and listen to her stories.

Thank you, Royal Ballet, for posting this! I had never heard Twyla speak -- in fact I had never "met" her -- she's delightful and of course amazing. i'm a musician, not a dancer, but I learned so much about the arts and life from this. Truly inspiring.

I say thank you to the royal opera house for letting us see behind the scenes. Being from germany i really appreciate all the videos you upload on you tube. Seeing those videos is what made me fall in love with ballet. Unfortunately i am to old to dance professionally and as there are no adult beginner classes near my hometown all i can do is teach myself and watch videos on youtube. But as long as i can watch dancers from the royal ballet i am totally okay with my situation
