Toothpaste should NOT be used on any optics. The fine abrasive therein scratches the lens surface causing a foggy appearance. Use toothpaste to polish only non-optical plastic. If you must polish a lens (which may alter its performance), use a superfine (and expensive) abrasive such as 3M Finessit or equivalent. That will take forever to use, but won't scratch the surface to the point of uselessness.

I used an empty Colgate tube to fill with DAP lightweight spackle, but now I can't find it. Toothpaste is PERFECT for hiding nail hole when you're moving, and I shave in the shower. The mirror I use constantly gets a fog like coating. Bar soap works best if you have it, tooth paste keeps it clear for about a week.
RE: USING TOOTH PASTE ON A SCRATCH on your eye glass lens.....ummmmm NO, don't do it___. The abrasive elements in tooth paste will indeed buff down a scratch but you are changing the prescription of the lens by buffing it lower (thinner) to meet the scratch. A better idea is take a tooth pick and touch it to some WD-40 on your finger tip. Then with the tooth pick run it along the inside of the scratch. Wipe with a soft cloth to remove excess WD-40. The scratch will "almost" look invisible for a while......you'll have to do it again eventually but better than destroying your prescription.
Instead of melting the snicker and placing it back into a toothpaste tub, you could have just melted it and place it in a pastry bag 🙄. Or just melt it and pour it on some bread?????
