We still own the 1983 Mazda RX-7 we bought in May that year. We were lucky to find a Rotary engine for it in 1996. Then, it got hit in January 2021 and was at the body shop for more than a year while they searched for parts.
Wow! I would imagine those body parts and anything else for that car could be pretty difficult. Thank you for watching and sharing a little about what you have!
1973 Ford torino was my first car. That car was a tank lol. In college, and while cruising main st. I'd have to jump out every once in awhile and blow thru the little gas filter to keep it from clogging up. it would have been easier to buy a new one but it was so much fun just to jump out at a stoplight lol. My mum had a 1980 Ford Mustang. She bought it brand new off the lot at her brother's dealership when she was 18. The car only had 3 miles on it. It was originally bright red, but she repainted it black since the Florida sun caused the red paint to peel. She loved that car, it took her all over the state, including some of the most dangerous parts of Miami, got her through rainstorms, was her constant companion during her time in law enforcement. Sadly, her first husband made her sell the car for a Grand Prix (which ended up being wrecked and they never got either of the cars nor the money back as far as I know). She would tell me that she wished she had kept her Mustang to this day. I'm really sad I never got to see it. I imagine her Mustang would be a collector's item now, or at least worth a lot of money. I've always loved classic cars and I really hope I can own one someday. Would love an 80s classic (also I squealed seeing the pic of KITT and Michael Knight/David Hasselhoff!)
I can relate. I had a new 79 Hatchback. Drove it for 11 years 278k miles, and 49 states. Sold it running for $500. Long story as to why but should have kept it forever. The driver's seat was molded to my body after 11 years. If the guy who bought it from me back in 1990 in Coopersburg, PA still has it I'll buy it back 🙂 He also bought my 82 GT.
I promise you the Florida sun was not the cause of the paint shedding off. I am fairly sure all sun - and even lack of sun would make those early 80's paint jobs peel.... 1979 and 1980 were big years for the mustang, if it were not for lots of people like your mum, the model might have disappeared for a while. I am not sure they have sold more mustangs in a year since 1979 and 1980.
In 1969 I was living in Downey California and my dad purchased for me a brand new 1969 Honda Civic car for $1,300. The payment was $40 a month to my dad. Had to sell the car in 1970 after getting married. Sold it to a man that lived in Spanish Fork Utah for $800. It went through the snow like a snow plow it was a great car if you like tin foil and plastic and you don't mind going everywhere at about 40 miles per hour. It sounded like a lawn mower engine but it was cute and little and I loved it. Thanks for all your videos with the memories old people like to remember things from when they weren't old
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories on your old Honda. They definitely got better as time went on. There is a guy near where I live driving an old 86 or so Honda Accord. It's his every day work car. I'm amazed that it's still running. I have never talked to him to see how many miles he had on it. But I have seen him driving it for 10 years.
I taught my best friend how to drive her first car. It was a Chevette stick shift. Whenever we were cruising in my Lil Grabber, she would tell people her Vette was at home because we couldn't afford the gas. LOL Am I the only one wishing for Doc Brown's DeLorean to take me back to the '80's? I need more video's, Rhetty! They sustain my technologically challenged fantasy. ;-)
I remember a friend of mine had a Chevette and he also referred to it as a Vette. It ran good but he had a ton of other issues with it. It was a fun car to poke fun at. Even he got in on that. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
My dad had a Chevette too, a '79. It was a nice car, this was in '85 when I was 16, but I realized driving it, the steering wheel was not alligned w/the seat, it was at least 1/2 inch off...🤔😂
My first car was a brand new Cutlass Supreme Brougham. Loved that car and besides spending a lot on gas, what about the size of those 8 track tapes? 😊Thanks Rhetty 💖
Mine was a '71 Mercury Montego, colored pea soup green. It was a BOAT of a car (I called it The Hulk), had no AC and no working radio. Manual windows and no power brakes. I took my old Walkman, bought a couple of those cheap speakers that would plug into the headphone jack, velcroed them to the dash, and that was my music. It was a piece of shit, and I'd do anything in the world to have it back.
I've always loved those old Cutlass Supremes. They definitely had a great body style and they are one of the ones I think of with a super comfy interior. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
My uncle has a baby blue Cutlass in mint condition with barely 20,000 miles on it. He really should get it restored. It would get a good chunk of money at auction.
Hello Christie. Thank you for watching. There will not be anymore old west or cemetery videos on this channel. I do plan on having them on the History Happens channel although they are not there yet.
Ha!!! I had a Chevy Chevette. What an awful car. I traded it in for a Z28. I found a picture of me standing next to it but what an embarrassing picture. I was wearing Magnum PI shorts. Couldn’t allow that one to be on UA-cam. 😁
My uncle would always joke that I would get a Trabant for my high school graduation. Being a kid, I was always in awe about getting a car... Till I went to Germany in 94 and saw the Trabant
I had a 1989 Grand Am back in the day. Was the worst car I ever owned in terms of the amount of repairs it constantly needed. Finally gave up on it when it started having engine trouble, sold it super cheap to a mechanic LOL
My dad had an 88 but it was a company car so he only had it for 3 years. He never had any issues with it but I know a lot of people that did. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.
My father had an 87 Olds Cutlas Supreme. Beautiful car. Sporty and Class. I loved that car, and got to drive it a few times. I still talk about that car.
Nice video down memory lane. I was a 90s kid but I had family members who had 1980s vehicles. My dad had a 83 Chevy 1 ton dually when I was kid and then a 88 Chevy 1500. My grandparents had a 1985 Ford van and a blue 1983 I think Ford LTD, my other grandparents had a 1981 Ford F250 and a 1987 Buick Century. That Buick had the softest seats in it. Had a friend in high school that had a 87 Camaro Z28 like the one in the picture you showed was red with IROC decals he got t boned on graduation night by a guy who ran a red light.
Sounds like your family had some nice cars. Those Buicks had some super comfy seats in them. Some of those Chevy trucks and Ford vans could go forever. My brother had an 85 IROC for a total of 5 months. After two months it was stolen and missing for a month. The police eventually found it and it was in a field. The ground effects were messed up, sides scratched and interior ruined. He had it in the shop for a month and then got it back. He then got rear ended and was totalled by a lady in a station wagon. Luckily he didn't have injuries but he sure was mad. He bought it brand knew and back then it was a lot of money. Thank you for watching and sharing some memories!
My dad had a silver 1980’s Porsche turbo, I still remember him switching gears, and the sound it made, and the tiny small “seats” in the back. My mom had a maroon Chevy citation lol
I knew someone that had one and he never had any problems. He had a really nice truck and someone hit him with no insurance. If that hadn't been on the market he wouldn't have had a reliable car. He bought it when it wad one year old. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories of the Yugo.
My first car was a 1985 Pontiac FireBird Trans-AM, with a factory 5 speed Borg Warner transmission and a factory performance suspension with factory 16 inch wheels and P245/50VR16 Goodyear Gatorbacks, the car could take any curve like it was on rails lol! Silver on light grey interior, and the big factory 4 barrel carburetor. I truly miss that car! Turned alot of heads back then!
84-86 was when US sports cars finally started to get better... fuel injection and compression were coming back... overdrive transmissions made them livable... Before that, it was all about cars from the late 60's.
I actually would LOVE to find an old Delta 88, from the late 80 early 90. They were frankly the most comfortable cars ever made. Wish i could find one.
As a visitor to the US in the late 70's and early 80's (tourist), I always found the US cars fascinating. Never saw them anywhere else I guess. Loved the big old 'boats' like Caddies, Buicks, Oldsmobiles etc. It seems like lots of SUV's in the US now.
I also liked those big ol' tough muscle cars (Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Oldsmobile 442 / Cutlass Supreme, Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Chevelle / Malibu, Plymouth GTX / Roadrunner, Dodge Challenger, Chrysler Newport, Ford Mustang / Ford Falcon, Lincoln Continental / Continental Mark III, and more) of the 1960s and 1970s. Not only were they styled better, but they also had engines that not only were tough, but also sounded tough! Why can't we go back to awesome times like the 60s and 70s?
My dad used to have a blue 1985 Chevy Camero IROC Z. He loves that car and it's the car of his dreams. My mom, on the other hand, hates it. She really believes that it's not a family car, and she had to be crammed in the back seat along with my oldest brother and sister who were babies at the time. My dad had no choice but to sell it and buy a bigger car like a minivan for example.
You hit the nail on the head putting those two Yugo pics one after the other! 🙆♀️ The shock absorbers in those Yugos were the people riding in that car!!! 😱🤦♀️😂🤣
Those were great trucks! I had a white 86. Only thing bad about it was the sticker graphics which I ended up peeling off. It went 200,000 miles and I sold it still running perfect. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
I miss the 80's & 90's I miss seeing a lot of these cars on the road. I got a 97 Accord EX model fully loaded, I bought it in July of 2015 it's been 6 years of ownership. I wonder what it will be like 15 years from now, if I still have that car.
The 80's are my go to decade, loved it. The 80's also introduced some of the worst new EPA emissions requirements to most vehicles. One of the worst 80's car was the Cadillac 4-6-8 engine. but it was aimed at savings on fuel consumption, it was a decade of learning I guess.
I had a 1981 Buick Skylark Limited 2 door coupe once. I wish I still had it. It was a fun car although I do still have my '71 Malibu. I also remember the short shorts for guys back then.
My sister graduated college in 88, and I graduated high school the same year. My grandfather bought my sister a brand new Chevette and got air conditioning added! I got a used 1984 Firebird with T-Tops. My sister put 200k miles on that Chevette! I still have my beloved Firebird 💙💙💙
In the 80s, I owned a ‘78 GMC High Sierra pickup, then an ‘86 Chevette CS, and then an ‘84 Fiero SE. I was able to take my parents ‘87 Turbo Grand Am GT out from time to time and their ‘89 Pontiac Sunbird GT Turbo - those were pretty quick for small cars. Great times in those vehicles.
Those really were nice cars! I never had one but I sure wanted one. My brother had an 85 IROC. That was sure a nice one too. Thank you for watching and sharing your favorite car!
My second car was a 1987 Buick Regal Turbo T bought in 1993 Still have it. Love the plush seats and hearing the Turbo spool. I graduated high school in 1983. So as soon as I could I was going to buy a 1987 Grand National or a Turbo Regal . Great video Thanks!
The Le Car...... Oh man they were terrible, I was a kid in the 80's and remember anyone who owned one walked or road the bus lol. awesome video soo many memories!
Great finds on these snapshots. I do not know how you do it. Ricardo selling those cars. I forgot about those ads he was in. T tops! Eddie van Halen with his car. Nice stuff. Thanks to you I just realized that Dan Marino and Tom Selleck looks very similar somehow. Maybe it's posing with a car.
My first car was a Pontiac Sunbird. I really wanted a Pontiac Fiero, however Dad said no, advised not a reasonable car & definitely not good in the snow. We lived in Northeast PA at the time.He was right, I ended up loving my Sunbird ! It lasted well over 10 years & was still able to sell.
The cars I wanted in the 80s were numerous. It was a great decade for cool cars. The IROC-Z, Mitsubishi Starion, Buick Grand National, Porsche 944, BMW 320i, VW GTI, Pontiac Fiero GT.
My best friend had a very bright orange Ford Escort we thought we were the ants pants driving around town in that. I personally wasn’t interested in driving and only got my license because my job required it. Thanks Rhett ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺

I think it is worth pointing out that this photography trend was popular in the Soviet Union too. I mean, it was 1 to 1 in the East block. While there weren't any TV shows incorporating cars as characters, the look of the ads was the same. I do miss these... Shadowy anonymous figures have almost completely taken over.
I wanted a 1987 Buick GNX. Had a poster of it. Knew the specs in and out. And had all types of plans where I was going to go. Until my parents pull a Ferris Bueller on me. My sister got a car and I got a computer.
The mayor of the local City had a Yugo, well into the 90s. It was his proof that he was frugal. An Eagle Kammback! Nice to see, but the SX/4 and Alliance were so much more common. (And AMC-built Chryslers)
The 1984 to 1996 corvette is my dream car because it has so much of that classic 80’s car energy I own a 1990 at 21 as a resto project and it is just a dream come true I love looking at it it is a time capsule truly
We had a 1988 Buick LeSabre Olympic Edition. It had a gold tint paint and the Olympic Rings on a hood ornament and the headrests. It was a great car until another driver plowed into the side of it, when my husband was on his way to work. He was fine, he just sat there and had a cigarette, (he said). He was hit hard enough to be pushed onto someone's yard. Needless to say, the car was totaled. We got back more than we paid for it though, because it was a special edition.
My dad was about his 87 Lincoln mark vii to the junkyard until I've rescued it, and fix it by replacing the fuel pump, air suspension, circuit breaker, and the power steering pump. It's a Bill Blass Edition.
They didn't make a Ford Mustang convertible until 1983 from 1973. The red with the white top had an1980 plate on the back. Killer decade though. Great movies, cars, and no social media.
Bought my first car in 1980, was a 1968 Lincoln Continental 4 door, $110.00 bux. Got 8 miles per gallon, & about the same per quart of oil. It was a beautiful copper colored car, pristine until you got to the front rider side, had a bash. It was a party boat! A couch in front & couch in back. It had a 462-cc engine, the biggest passenger car engine at the time. It could go where heavy-duty off-road vehicles could go without a problem, but in total luxury. It leaked oil bad though. Oil pan had a JB weld over the oil change release, and someone took an ice pick to the pan, so bad oil could be released. I could never park on someone's driveway, that would be unforgiveable. I would have to check the oil level everytime I would go anywhere, and often had to add.
You certainly did have a land yacht. I remember people having cars like that and pulling boats. No one uses cars for that anymore. They were tanks. If something like that hit a modern car it would be super bad for the newer one. Thank you for watching and sharing memories of what you had.
As I Recall the joke with Yugo was “ 40 mpg with your knee’s on your chest” that’s how cramped these cars were. Only saw 3-4 on the road for the few years they were here in the USA.
The same guy that brought Yugo into the market also brought Subaru. Also Peugeot, Renault, Daihatsu were in the US market. Isuzu also made cars during this time and the early 90s.

Thank you for watching and sharing what your mother had. That mustang certainly would have been a car many desire now.

Thanks for the memories! Big changes during the 80's!
You're welcome and you're right about the big changes happening then. Thank you for watching my friend!

Great video about the 1980s - I love the 80s! Would love to see more old west and cemetery videos too!

My parents had a canary yellow Chevette. 😂
@@brendakrieger7000 Ha!!! Mine was blue

Didn't mean to do that but I appreciate you watching!
My uncle would always joke that I would get a Trabant for my high school graduation. Being a kid, I was always in awe about getting a car... Till I went to Germany in 94 and saw the Trabant
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Bless you Rhetty! Love your videos!
Thank you for watching and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying the videos.
Nice video. Great idea to include photos of cars with people, makes it so much more interesting and relatable.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you watching!
Back when cars were still being made to last. Thank you for the memories 😊
I love the photo of Jon Bon Jovi!¡! He's my pretend boyfriend. 🤭
5.0 Mustangs were THE car of the 1980's.
Yes they were a big one. Thanks for watching!
My father had an 87 Olds Cutlas Supreme. Beautiful car. Sporty and Class. I loved that car, and got to drive it a few times. I still talk about that car.
Thank you for watching and sharing what your father had.
Thank you for watching and sharing what your parents had Shanti!
I had a Yugo, never had any problems at all with it. Was fun to drive! It's what I learned to drive a stick
I enjoy this vid. Many memorable cars from the 80's and a good song.
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I bought an 88 GMC S15 about 3 years back. Still have it, and she still is going. Only about 177,000 miles on her. Love that truck.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you have Danny!
I loved the squared or sharp edges of cars back then.
Now they are certainly a classic. Thank you for watching!
I actually would LOVE to find an old Delta 88, from the late 80 early 90. They were frankly the most comfortable cars ever made. Wish i could find one.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you like!
As a visitor to the US in the late 70's and early 80's (tourist), I always found the US cars fascinating. Never saw them anywhere else I guess. Loved the big old 'boats' like Caddies, Buicks, Oldsmobiles etc. It seems like lots of SUV's in the US now.
Thank you for watching Richard!
I was born in ‘83 and always liked the Firebird because of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider 😎
Thank you for watching Jedi!
This was beautiful and nostalgic! Just loved this!
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate you watching!
That 4x4 Toyota truck was the exact one my Uncle Bill had.
Good times back then.
You've definitely had some nice cars and I like the one you still have. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
I definitely think you got the sweeter car! That's awesome you still have it! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
I learned to drive in a lemon yellow Monte Carlo. It had lights on the sides like a limousine 😅 this was in 87 when I came to the States.
Monte Carlos were great cars and they were really had a great body style in the 80s. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
A guy in Texas bought out almost all the remaining DMC’s he could get his hands on and is currently working on rereleasing the DeLorean.
Thank you for watching John!
LOL - I have a picture of me on my first brand new car, a 1984 VW Rabbit Diesel. And yes, it had an aluminum engine block.
I do remember when those were a big thing. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Could we have had the '80s without Hairspray? What a great video what an outstanding editing job you do I think your videos are so cool.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you had!
My favorite 80s car is the 82- 89 Trans AM a great car 5 speed that could get out of its way
Those really were nice cars! I never had one but I sure wanted one. My brother had an 85 IROC. That was sure a nice one too. Thank you for watching and sharing your favorite car!
@@RhettyforHistory it was a great car engine needed major repairs so I sold it to a collector a few years back
I was a teenager in the 80s it was AWESOME
The only bad thing about the 80’s is that they ended
Thank you for watching Fred!
What is the song at the end?
I had both a 1982 Mazda RX-7 (my first brand new off the show room floor car) and a 1982 Toyota Supra. Man I loved those cars.
Boy, those were both really nice cars! Premium Japanese sports cars back then. Thank you for watching and sharing what you had!
The Rx-7 was such a smooth-driving car. My ex had an 84 or 85.
I always wanted a IrocZ
Those were nice. Thank you for watching!
The woman with the teased hair posing with the Trans Am at 4:56 captures the era perfectly. Miss the 80's!
Cool song montage bro 🤙💟
Thank you!
Ah, the 80's. I was freshly single, still good looking, had a good paying job and a brand new Turbo Trans Am! I had girls everywhere I went!
Thank you for watching Jim!

Thank you for watching Ryan!
My mom had a Plymouth Reliant station wagon. Although I was a child, we never wore out seat belts.
Thank you for watching Michael!
Thank you for watching and sharing what you had Lisa!
@Rhetty for History My pleasure, you are very welcome.
I was waiting to see a photo of you by your car...jk

I lived in Marysville Ohio in the 80s as a child I knew so many peoples parents that worked in the Honda factory
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories!
I had an '87 Mustang LX hatchback. I loved that car !!
The cars I wanted in the 80s were numerous. It was a great decade for cool cars. The IROC-Z, Mitsubishi Starion, Buick Grand National, Porsche 944, BMW 320i, VW GTI, Pontiac Fiero GT.
Love looking at the cars
They are fun to look back on. Wish I had a couple of them. Thank you for watching!

What is the name of that awesome song in this video please?
Give me the cars and women of the 70s over the 80s for sure
My best friend had a very bright orange Ford Escort we thought we were the ants pants driving around town in that. I personally wasn’t interested in driving and only got my license because my job required it. Thanks Rhett ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
Hi Jodie!! How are you?
@@paulstan9828 Hello there Paul 🤗 nice to hear from you today. I hope you had a lovely day with your sister, I think you said it’s was for Labor Day.
@@swansfan6944 Yeah had a nice time it was Labor Day/Her birthday party. The next day she was sick, she tested positive for covid. Two days later I got it. Still getting over it. Just been coughing and sitting in the house. I had all 4 covid shots but didn’t stop it. I guess without them it might have been worse. Hope you are doing well. Wanted to say 👋 😁
@@paulstan9828 I’m sorry to hear that Paul, I hope you and your sister recover well.
I was all for the vaccination but didn’t get any more after the first 2 as it put me off when my husband developed high blood pressure and high cholesterol after the shots. Thank you for watching and sharing what they had RB!
Thank you for watching Magnus!
Had a friend with a Subaru BRAT early 80's. That was a fun little car-truck. 🙂
I never had one but they certainly looked like a lot of fun! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories of the time!

These pictures are hilarious! 😂
Thank you for watching!
I like the joke about the warmer. I don't know which was best, the joke or the delivery.
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the joke!
A Toyota Hilux under 100K miles is such a dream truck.
I had an 87, so much fun to drive! The only issue I had was the master cylinder clutch went out several times.
